1 Introduction
This instruction manual is for users of the TRUST 962Z PowerC@m Optical Zoom.
This camera has a CCD lens to guarantee sharp images. The camera has a
maximum resolution of 4 Megapixles. The photographs are saved in the 16 MB
internal memory.
1.1 General comments regarding photography
Test photograph
Before you start photographing a unique event, it is a good idea to first take a number
of test photographs. This will help to ensure that the camera works as required.
No compensation for unsuccessful photographs
No compensation may be claimed for unsuccessful photographs as a result of a
faulty camera, faulty software, etc.
Transferring photographs and video clips
No guarantees are given that photographs and video clips produced with this camera
can be displayed on other devices or that photographs and video clips produced with
other devices can be displayed using this camera.
Sunlight
Do not aim the camera directly at the sun for a long period of time. This may damage
the sensor.
Shaking/knocks
Do not shake the camera or knock it against anything, because this may cause a
fault, unsuccessful photographs, memory incompatibility or the loss of photographs
from the memory.
LCD screen
There may sometimes be small black or clear dots visible on the LCD screen. This is
normal and does not affect the photographs. There is no reason to exchange the
camera if there are 10 dots or less.
Exposing the LCD screen to direct sunlight for a long period of time may cause faults.
Lens
Keep the glass of the lens clean. Use a cotton bud to clean the lens. If necessary,
use special cleaning fluid for camera lenses. Do not use a different type of cleaning
product.

2 Safety
Carefully read the following instructions before use.
- The Trust 962Z PowerC@m Optical Zoom does not require any special
maintenance. Use a slightly damp, soft cloth to clean the camera.
- Do not use aggressive substances, such as white spirit, to clean the device.
These may harm the material.
- Do not submerge the device in liquid. This may be dangerous and will
damage the device. Do not use the device near water.
- Do not repair the device yourself.
2.1 Batteries
- The Duracell Ultra batteries supplied with the device are not rechargeable. Do
not try to recharge them, because this may cause them to explode.
- Never throw the batteries onto an open fire, because this may cause them to
explode.
- Never drill holes into the batteries.
- Keep the batteries out of the reach of small children.
- Use AA alkaline batteries with this camera.
You can also use rechargeable AA NiMH batteries (minimum 1800 mAh).
- When the alkaline batteries (including Duracell Ultra batteries) are empty, ask
your local authority where you can dispose of them.
Note: Standard AA NiCd batteries are unsuitable for use with this device.
Note: Do not use old and new batteries at the same time, because the old
batteries may deplete the new ones.
Note: The batteries should be removed if the camera is not going to be used
for some time. This will save the battery power.
3 Approval
This device meets the essential requirements and other relevant conditions of the
applicable European directives. The Declaration of Conformity (DoC) is available at
www.trust.com/13789/ce.

4 Inserting and removing the batteries
Follow the instructions given below to insert or remove the batteries

Note: Make sure the camera is turned off.
Open the battery cover and insert the batteries into the battery compartment as
indicated on the inside of the battery cover (see figure 1). Close the battery cover.
The status indicator will appear on the LCD screen (12, figure 6).
Batteries full.
Batteries half full.
Batteries empty. Replace the
batteries.

Note: It is normal for the camera casing to become warm when using the
camera.
Note: After inserting or replacing the batteries, you will have to reset the date
and the time (see chapter 12).
Note: Turn off the LCD screen to increase the life span of the batteries.
5 Explanation of the camera functions
Functions on the top of the camera (see figure 2).

1 Exposure button Press this button to take a photograph. This
button is also used to start and stop recording a
video clip.
2 Microphone Records sound whilst recording video clips or
sound after taking a photograph.

table 9).
6 White balance indicator Displays the selected white balance
setting. Not displayed if the white balance
has been set to Auto (see table 10 and
chapter 7.5.4).
7 Compression Displays the selected compression (see
table 10).
8 Resolution Displays the selected resolution (see
table 10).
9 Date Displays the date (see chapter 12).
10 Exposure Displays the altered exposure setting. It is
not displayed if EV=0 (see chapter 7.5.3).
11 Memory Indicates whether a memory card has
been inserted (see chapter 13.1).
12 Battery Indicates the remaining battery power
(see table 1).
13 Macro Indicates when the macro setting has
been selected (see chapter 7.2).
14 Optical and digital zoom Indicates the optical and digital zoom
factor (see chapter 7.1).

6 General functions
6.1 Rotary button
The camera can be set to a certain mode using the rotary button (5, figure 5).

6.2 LCD screen
The LCD screen allows you to view the photographs and video clips, use the menu,
etc.
Capture mode or video mode:
- Press the DISP button (6, figure 5) to turn off the details.
- Press the DISP button again to turn the LCD screen off.
- Press the DISP button again to make everything visible again.
Note: You cannot alter anything in the menu when the LCD screen is turned
off.
Playback mode:
-Press the DISP button to display details about the recording (resolution, date, time
and flash).
- Press the DISP button again to return to the normal image.
Setup mode: it is not possible to turn the LCD screen off in this mode.
6.3 Stand
The stand supplied with the camera can be used to keep the camera stable. It is
recommended to use the stand when using the automatic exposure function or the
macro mode.
6.4 Attaching the wrist strap
You can attach the wrist strap to the camera for optimal ease of use and safety.

7 Taking a photograph
The Quick Installation Guide explains how to quickly take a photograph. Extra options
are described in the following chapters.

7.1 Zooming in or out
This camera has a 3x optical zoom and a 4x digital zoom. This means a maximum
12x zoom.
Press the control button up/down (2, figure 5) to zoom in or out.
The zoom factor is shown in the zoom bar (14, figure 6). Blue indicates the optical
zoom and red indicates the digital zoom.
Note: Use the LCD screen when using the digital zoom. Images are not
displayed in the viewfinder when using the digital zoom.
Note: The digital zoom decreases the image quality.
7.2 Using the macro mode (close-up photographs)
The Trust 962Z PowerC@m Optical Zoom has a macro mode which can be used to
take photographs at a minimum distance of 20 cm.
Selecting the macro mode:
Press the Set/Macro/Audio button to select the macro mode.
Macro mode (for taking close-up photographs).
Distance: 20 cm
The macro symbol will be displayed in the bottom left-hand corner of the
LCD screen when this mode has been selected by pressing the
Set/Macro/Audio button.

Note: It is recommended to use the stand and the automatic exposure
function (see chapter 7.3) when taking photographs using the macro
mode.
7.3 Automatic exposure
The camera has an automatic exposure function which gives a time delay of 10
seconds before the photograph is taken. You can use the automatic exposure
function to take a photograph of yourself.
Selecting the automatic exposure function: Press the control button to the right.
The symbol for the automatic exposure function will appear on the LCD screen.
Press the exposure button (1, figure 2) to take a photograph using the automatic
exposure function.
Whilst counting down (10 seconds):
- A beep will be heard.
- The number of seconds remaining will be displayed on the LCD screen.
- The automatic exposure indicator (10, figure 5) will flash.
Note: It is recommended to use the stand when taking a photograph using
the automatic exposure function.

Note: You can stop the automatic exposure function by pressing the flash
button.
7.4 Setting the flash
The camera has various flash options.
Selecting the flash: Press the control button to the left. Repeat this until the correct
flash setting has been reached (see table 9).
Flash off.
Automatic flash.
The flash will work automatically when there is insufficient light.
Automatic flash with red-eye reduction.
The flash will work automatically when there is insufficient light. An extra flash
will be given to avoid the red-eye effect.
Synchronization with a low shutter time (Night Scene).
The flash works with a low shutter speed to produce the correct lighting. It is
recommended to use the stand.
Flash on.
The flash will work every time, regardless of the lighting conditions.

Note: The batteries quickly become empty when the flash is used a lot.
Note: Under normal circumstances, it takes between 6 and 10 seconds to
recharge the flash, depending on the battery power.
Note: The flash cannot be used when the battery power is too low. Replace
the batteries.
7.5 Menu settings when in the Capture mode
The following settings can be altered in the menu when the camera is in the Capture
mode: resolution (image size), compression, voice memo, exposure and white
balance.
1. Set the camera to the Capture mode.
2. Press the Menu button.
3. Scroll through the functions by pressing the control button up and down.
Confirm an option by pressing the control button to the right. The next menu
will then be displayed.
Press the Menu button to return to the previous level.

7.5.1 Image size (resolution)
Photographs can be saved in the memory in four different resolutions. The lower the
resolution, the more photographs you can save in the camera's memory. The higher
the resolution, the more detailed the photograph will be.
Use a low resolution if you wish to upload photographs onto the Internet.
Use the highest resolution if you wish to print or edit photographs.
7.5.2 Quality
You can determine the quality of the photographs using the compression.
The higher the quality setting (Super Fine), the better the final image. A higher quality
requires more memory and limits the number of photographs that can be saved in the
camera’s memory.

Super Fine is the best quality setting. Normal is the lowest quality setting. The quality
setting can be altered as desired.
Note: The numbers given in the table below are only an indication of the
expected capacity.

7.5.3 Exposure
You can adjust the exposure to underexpose or overexpose photographs. This will
make darker objects lighter or objects which are brightly lit less bright.
Note: A higher value (+2.0) produces a very bright photograph.
7.5.4 White balance
Under normal circumstances, the white balance is set automatically. You can select
the white balance manually for conditions which do not change or for certain lighting
conditions.
• Auto: Automatic setting (indoor and outdoor photography).
• Daylight: Setting for sunny weather (outdoor photography).
• Sunset: Setting for dusk (outdoor photography).
• Tungsten: Setting for incandescent lighting (indoor photography).
• Fluorescent: Setting for fluorescent lighting (indoor photography).
Tip: A photograph is sensitive to the light conditions. In sunlight, the
photograph appears blue and under fluorescent lighting, the
photograph appears green. The human eye can solve this problem.
The camera, however, cannot solve this problem without making
alterations.
Under normal conditions, the white balance is adjusted automatically
by the camera. If there are strange colours, it is recommended to alter
the white balance manually.
8 Recording a video clip ( )
1. Set the camera to the Video mode.
2. Press the exposure button to start recording. A camera and microphone
symbol will flash in the top left-hand corner of the LCD screen.
3. By default, the recording will be stopped after 10 seconds and saved in the
camera’s memory.
Altering the duration of a video recording:
Press the Menu button to alter the duration of a video recording. You can choose 10
seconds, 20 seconds, 30 seconds or Manual.
If you select Manual, the recording is stopped by pressing the exposure button.
Delayed start of recording: select the automatic exposure function (see chapter 7.3).
Close-up video recording: select the macro mode (see chapter 7.2).

Optical zoom: You can use the optical zoom function whilst recording a video clip. It is
not possible to use the digital zoom.
Note: ‘Low light!’ is displayed on the LCD screen when there is insufficient
light. Improve the lighting conditions or record a video clip in a different
location. Increasing or reducing the distance to the object may also
solve the problem. UK
Note: Sound is recorded with the video clips. It is not possible to turn the
microphone off.
The noise of the surroundings will be included in the video clip.
Note: If the optical zoom is used whilst recording a video clip, the sound of
the motor will also be recorded.
9 Viewing photographs and video clips on
the camera ( )
The Quick Installation Guide explains how to quickly take a photograph. Extra options
are described in the following chapters.
Photo: Press the control button to the right to zoom in on a photograph (see
chapter 9.1.2).
Video: Press the Set/Macro button to play a video clip.
Note: The image is unfocused when first displayed on the LCD screen. The
image will become focussed after 2 seconds. This is normal.
Note: You can scroll to the next or previous recording after the image has
become focussed. Take this 2 second delay into consideration when
scrolling through the camera’s memory.
9.1.1 Displaying thumbnails
1. Press the control button to the left (flash). Nine thumbnails will be displayed
on the LCD screen.
2. Press the control button up or down (zoom) to search for a recording.
Press the Set/Macro button to view the recording.
3. Press the control button up or down to view the previous/next recording or
press the control button to the left to display the thumbnails.
9.1.2 Display with the digital zoom
This allows you to increase the size of the photograph to four times the size of the
original.
1. Press the control button to the right. The zoom bar will be displayed on the
LCD screen.
2. Determine the desired increase in size by pressing the control button up or
down.
3. Press the control button to the right to confirm the increase in size. You can
now move around the photograph using the control button.
Press the Menu button to return to the original size.

9.1.3 Playing a video clip
Play a video clip:
Press the Set/Macro button.
Pause: Press the Set/Macro button. Press the button again to continue playing
the video clip.
Stop: Press the Menu/Cancel button.
9.2 Menu settings
The following settings can be altered in the menu when the camera is in the Playback
mode: Delete, Slide show and Protect.
1. Set the camera to the Playback mode.
2. Press the Menu button.
3. Scroll through the functions by pressing the control button up and down.
Confirm an option by pressing the control button to the right. The next menu
will then be displayed.
Press the Menu button to return to the previous level.

9.2.1 Deleting photographs and video clips
Deleting one/all photographs and video clips from the memory
1. Open the menu.
2. Select ‘Delete’.
3. Select ‘Delete Image’ to delete one photograph or video clip.
Select ‘Delete All’ to delete all the photographs and video clips.
Select ‘Format’ to format the memory.
4. Select ‘Yes’ to confirm the deletion.
Select ‘No’ to cancel the deletion.
Note: Photographs and video clips cannot be deleted if they are protected
against being deleted. Remove the protection if you wish to delete a
protected photograph or a protected video clip.
Note: All the photographs and video clips will be deleted when the memory is
formatted, including the photographs and video clips protected against
being deleted.

9.2.2 Slide show
1. Open the menu.
2. Select ‘Slide Show’.

3. Set the time.
4. Press Set.
5. All the photographs will now be displayed in turn for the time which has been
set. The camera will make two beeps when the final photograph has been
displayed.
Note: It takes 2 seconds before the photograph becomes focussed on the
LCD screen. It then takes x seconds before the next photograph
appears.
9.2.3 Print
Note: This option is only available when a memory card has been inserted
into the camera and the photographs have been saved on the memory
card.
1. Open the menu.
2. Select ‘Print’.
3. Select the number of copies to be printed (1 to 9).
4. Press Set.
If the memory card is inserted into a printer with a card reader, it is possible to print
the selected photographs directly. A computer is then not necessary. See the
instruction manual provided with your printer for more information.
10 Viewing photographs and video clips on a
computer
See the Quick Installation Guide for instructions on how to install the camera on a
computer and how to connect it to a computer.
The driver must be installed for Windows 98 and Windows 2000 (see chapter 10.1).
10.1 Installing the driver in Windows 98 / Windows 2000
1. Insert the Trust installation CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive. The Trust
Installer will appear.
2. Click on ‘Install driver’. Follow the on-screen instructions.
10.2 Connecting the camera to a computer (Windows 98 /
Windows ME / Windows 2000 / Windows XP)
1. Connect the USB cable to the camera’s USB port.
2. Connect the USB cable to your computer’s USB port.
3. Turn the camera on. Windows will automatically detect new hardware and
install it.

10.3 Saving photographs on a computer
The photographs are saved in the camera’s memory. A ‘Removable disk’ is displayed
in My Computer.
1. Double-click on the My Computer icon. Click on the ‘Removable disk’, click on
the ‘DCIM’ folder and click on the ‘100MEDIA' folder.
2. Files can be saved on your computer, for example, in the My Documents
directory, by means on drag and drop.
11 Viewing photographs and video clips on a
television
This camera allows the user to view the photographs and video clips on a television.
Note: Turn the camera off before connecting it to a television.
Note: See the instruction manual provided with your television or video
recorder for the correct TV standard and possible video connections.
Note: If your TV or video does not have a composite video input, then you
can purchase a composite-to-SCART adapter from your local TV shop.
11.1 Connecting
1. Connect the video cable’s mini-jack connector to the camera’s Video-out
connection (6, figure 3).
2. Connect the yellow RCA plug to the Video-in connection on your TV or video.
3. Set the television to the video channel.
4. Set the camera to the Playback mode.
Note: The camera’s Video-out connection is not suitable for connecting to
your TV’s aerial connection. Your TV must have a Video-in connection.
Note: If the image on the TV is black-and-white instead of colour, adjust the
TV output on the camera (PAL/NTSC)
Tip: If you do not see an image and your speakers emit a loud noise, then
you have probably connected the video plugs to the wrong connection
on your TV. Check the connections and try again or see the instruction
manual provided with your TV.
11.2 Selecting PAL/NTSC
PAL is the TV standard used in most European countries. Carry out the following to
configure the camera for NTSC.
1. Turn the camera on.
2. Turn the multi-select button to SET.
3. Press the control button to the right until ‘TV Mode’ is displayed.
4. Press the control button downwards to select the correct TV standard (PAL or
NTSC).
5. Press the Set button to confirm the selection.

13 Inserting or removing a memory card
The size of the camera’s 16 MB memory can be increased using a SD (Secure
Digital) memory card. The photographs and video clips are automatically saved on a
memory card when one has been inserted into the camera.
Memory cards can be purchased from, for example, a photography shop.
Note: To avoid damage to the memory card and the camera, only insert or
remove a memory card when the camera has been turned off.
Note: The internal memory CANNOT be removed.
13.1 Inserting or removing a memory card
Follow the instructions given below to insert or remove a memory card.
1. Open the memory card cover (2, figure 4) and insert the memory card into the
memory card slot as indicated. Press the memory card into the slot until it
clicks into place.
Remove the memory card by pushing it so that the lock is released. Remove
the memory card from the camera
Note: The memory card can only be inserted into the camera in one way. Do
not force the card into the slot. This could damage both the memory
card and the camera.
Note: The camera automatically saves photographs and video clips on a
memory card when one has been inserted into the camera.
An external memory card must first be formatted for optimal use
Symbol which is displayed on the LCD screen (11, figure 6) when a memory
card has been inserted into the camera.
Symbol flashes: the memory card is write-protected. Remove the protection to
use the card.
Note: NEVER remove a memory card whilst the camera is still processing
data (indicator flashes green (10, figure 5)). This may result in the loss
of data or damage.
13.2 Formatting the memory
For optimal use of the internal memory or a memory card, these must first be
formatted before being used (see chapter 9.2.1).

www.trustphotosite.com. There are a number of conditions attached to the use of this
site. The conditions can be found at www.trustphotosite.com.
An instruction manual for the Trust PhotoSite is included on the CD-ROM. The
manual contains instructions on how to install and use the software.
