Michell Instruments XZR250 User manual

1a. Unpack the analyser, accessories and documents. Ensure
contents are correct, contact Michell Instruments Ltd. if
anything is missing.
1b. Transfer the device to a clean workbench.
NOTE: Read the User Guide BEFORE proceeding; the Quick
Start Guide (this document) is for reference only.
2. What’s included:
 Sensor head, sensor block, probe, clamp & gasket.
3. Measure the distance between the probe installaon site
and the controller, and cut cable to length.
NOTE: Leave enough cable length to ensure the probe can
be removed from its locaon without stretching the cable.
CAUTION: Cable MUST be shielded.
4. Remove the front panel (1) and set to one side:
 Loosen four capve screws (2) and carefully ease the
front panel (1) from the housing.
 Disconnect the ribbon cable from the front panel (1).

WARNING: Shock hazard, do NOT apply power!
5a. Prepare your cable; shielding exposed and wire ends
trimmed.
5b. Feed cable through the gland and wire connector.
CAUTION: Make sure the terminals are wired as shown;
failure to connect power correctly could result in irreversible
product damage that is NOT covered by warranty.

PIN 1: 24VDC
PIN 2: 0V
Digital Output
PIN 3: COM1
PIN 4: COM2
Analogue Output
PIN 5: Analogue GND
PIN 6: Analogue Out1
PIN 7: Analogue Out2
Relay Output
PIN 8: Relay 1 In
PIN 9: Relay 1 Out
PIN 10: Relay 2 In
PIN 11: Relay 2 Out
5c. Carefully pull cable back through the gland unl the
connector aligns with the board; fit connector to the board.
Always handle the interface board using the correct
ESD handling precauons.
CAUTION: Make sure the shielding is intact and correctly
posioned to ensure the device is grounded properly.
5d. Using a 20mm spanner, ghten the cable gland to secure
the cable in place.
NOTE: Be careful not to over‐tension the wires or over‐
ghten the gland.
6. Replace the front panel.
 Connect the ribbon cable to the front panel.
 Install the front panel (1) to the head housing and
secure in place with the four capve screws (2).
 Fit the screw covers (3).

CAUTION
Carefully follow all wiring instructions. Incorrect wiring can cause permanent
damage to the device.
Zirconium dioxide sensors are damaged by the presence of silicone. Vapors
(organic silicone compounds) from RTV rubbers and sealants are known to
poison oxygen sensors and MUST be avoided.
Do NOT use chemical cleaning agents.
Failure to comply with these instructions may result in product damage.

7. Installing the Probe:
7a. Ensure a suitable mounng flange or plate is fied to the
flue.
 Place the gasket over the probe as shown below
 Insert the probe into the flue
 Make sure the probe tubes are in the correct orienta‐
on using the flow indicaon on the probes flange
 Bolt the probe securely to the flue using a 20mm span‐
ner
10. Apply 24 V DC ± 10% to the analyzer via a limited power
source.
CAUTION
Do not exceed maximum ratings and ensure sensor(s) are operated in
accordance with their requirements.

8. With the display facing downwards, carefully insert the
sensor block into the sensor head.
NOTE: The connector is keyed to aid alignment.
CAUTION: Do NOT force the sensing module otherwise
you may damage the sensor and /or housing connectors.
8a. Keep the sensor facing upwards unl final assembly.
9. Final Assembly
9a. Ensure the clamp (3) is fied over the sensor head shoul‐
der, carefully slide the sensor head onto the probe with the
cable (2) at the base of the housing should face downwards.
NOTE: Ensure the probe is inserted fully.
9b. Using a 10mm socket (or spanner) ghten clamp (3) to
secure the head housing in posion; torque to 5Nm.
