This Tepan Yaki conforms to current safety requirements.
Inappropriate use can, however, lead to personal injury and
material damage.
Please read these operating and installation instructions carefully
before using the Tepan Yaki for the first time. They contain
important information on safety, installation, use and maintenance.
This prevents both personal injury and damage to the Tepan Yaki.
In accordance with standard IEC60335-1, Miele expressly and
strongly advises that you read and follow the instructions in the
chapter on installing the Tepan Yaki as well as the safety
instructions and warnings.
Miele cannot be held liable for injury or damage caused by non-
compliance with these instructions.
Keep these instructions in a safe place and pass them on to any
future owner.

Correct application
 This Tepan Yaki is designed for domestic use and for use in similar
environments.
 This Tepan Yaki is not intended for outdoor use.
 This Tepan Yaki is intended for domestic use only to cook food
and keep it warm. All other types of use are not permitted.
 This Tepan Yaki can only be used by people with reduced
physical, sensory or mental capabilities or lack of experience and
knowledge if they are supervised whilst using it. They may only use it
unsupervised if they have been shown how to use it in a safe way.
They must be able to recognise and understand the dangers of
misuse.

Safety with children
 Children under 8 years of age must be kept away from the Tepan
Yaki unless they are constantly supervised.
 Children aged 8 and older may only use the Tepan Yaki without
supervision if they have been shown how to use it in a safe manner.
Children must be able to understand and recognise the possible
dangers caused by incorrect operation.
 Children must not be allowed to clean the Tepan Yaki
unsupervised.
 Children should be supervised in the vicinity of the Tepan Yaki.
Never allow children to play with the Tepan Yaki.
 The Tepan Yaki gets hot when in use and remains hot for quite a
while after being switched off. Keep children well away from the
Tepan Yaki until it has cooled down and there is no danger of
burning.
 Danger of burning!
Do not store anything which might arouse a child's interest in
storage areas above or behind the Tepan Yaki. Otherwise they could
be tempted into climbing onto the Tepan Yaki.
 Danger of suffocation. Packaging, e.g. plastic wrappings, must be
kept out of the reach of babies and children. Whilst playing, children
could become entangled in packaging or pull it over their head and
suffocate.
 Activate the system lock to ensure that children cannot switch the
Tepan Yaki on by mistake. Use the safety lock when the Tepan Yaki
is in use to prevent children from altering the settings selected.

Technical safety
 Unauthorised installation, maintenance and repairs can cause
considerable danger for the user. Installation, maintenance and
repairs must only be carried out by your Miele dealer.
 Damage to the Tepan Yaki can compromise your safety. Check it
for visible signs of damage. Do not use a damaged Tepan Yaki.
 Temporary or permanent operation on an autonomous power
supply system or a power supply system that is not synchronised
with the mains power supply (e.g. island networks, back-up systems)
is possible. A prerequisite for operation is that the power supply
system complies with the specifications of EN50160 or an
equivalent standard.
The function and operation of the protective measures provided in
the domestic electrical installation and in this Miele product must
also be maintained in isolated operation or in operation that is not
synchronised with the mains power supply, or these measures must
be replaced by equivalent measures in the installation. As described,
for example, in the current version of BS OHSAS 18001–2 ISO
45001.
 The electrical safety of the Tepan Yaki can only be guaranteed
when correctly earthed. It is most important that this basic safety
requirement is present. If in doubt, the electrical installation should
be checked by a qualified electrician.
 Before connecting the Tepan Yaki to the mains supply, ensure that
the connection data on the data plate (voltage and frequency) match
the mains electricity supply. This data must correspond in order to
avoid the risk of damage to the appliance.
Compare this data before connecting the appliance. If in any doubt,
consult a qualified electrician.
 Multi-socket adapters and extension leads do not guarantee the
required safety of the appliance (fire hazard). Do not use these to
connect the Tepan Yaki to the mains electricity supply.

 For safety reasons, this Tepan Yaki may only be used after it has
been built in.
 This Tepan Yaki must not be installed and operated in mobile
installations (e.g. on a ship).
 Any contact with live connections or tampering with the electrical
or mechanical components of the Tepan Yaki will endanger your
safety and may lead to appliance malfunctions.
Do not open the Tepan Yaki housing under any circumstances.
 While the Tepan Yaki is under warranty, repairs should only be
undertaken by a Miele authorised service technician. Otherwise the
warranty is invalidated.
 Miele can only guarantee the safety of the appliance when
genuine original Miele replacement parts are used. Faulty
components must only be replaced by Miele spare parts.
 The Tepan Yaki is not intended for use with an external timer
switch or a remote control system.
 If the plug is removed from the connection cable or if the cable is
supplied without a plug, the Tepan Yaki must be connected to the
electrical supply by a suitably qualified electrician.
 If the mains connection cable is damaged, it must be replaced
with a special mains connection cable by a qualified electrician (see
“Electrical connection” in the “Installation” chapter).

 During installation, maintenance and repair work, the Tepan Yaki
must be completely disconnected from the mains electricity supply.
It is only completely isolated from the electricity supply when:
- the mains fuse is disconnected,
- the screw-out fuse is removed (in countries where this is
applicable),
- the plug (if present) is removed from the socket. To do this, pull
the plug and not the mains connection cable.
 Danger of electric shock.
Do not use the appliance if it is faulty. Switch it off immediately,
disconnect it from the mains electricity supply and contact your
Miele dealer.
 If the Tepan Yaki is built in behind a furniture front (e.g. a door), do
not close the furniture door while the Tepan Yaki is in use. Heat and
moisture can build up behind the closed furniture door. This can
result in damage to the Tepan Yaki, the housing unit and the floor. Do
not close the furniture door until the residual heat indicators have
gone out.

Correct use
 The Tepan Yaki gets hot when in use and remains hot for quite a
while after being switched off. There is a danger of burning until the
residual heat indicators go out.
 Due to the high temperatures radiated, objects left near the Tepan
Yaki when it is switched on could start to burn.
Do not use the Tepan Yaki to heat up the room.
 Oils and fats can ignite if allowed to overheat. Never leave the
Tepan Yaki unattended when cooking with oil or fats. Never attempt
to put out oil or fat fires with water. Switch the Tepan Yaki off.
Extinguish the flames carefully with a lid or fire blanket.
 Do not leave the SmartLine element unattended whilst it is being
used. It should be continually monitored whilst boiling and flash
frying.
 Flames could set the grease filters of a cooker hood on fire. Do
not flambé under a cooker hood.
 Spray canisters, aerosols and other inflammable substances can
ignite when heated. Therefore do not store such items or substances
in a drawer under the Tepan Yaki. Cutlery inserts must be heat-
resistant.
 Heating up food in closed containers e.g. tins or sealed jars
results in an increase in pressure will can cause them to explode. Do
not use the Tepan Yaki for bottling food or for heating up food in tins.
 If the Tepan Yaki is covered, there is a risk of the material catching
fire, shattering or melting if the appliance is switched on by mistake
or if residual heat is still present. Do not cover the Tepan Yaki, e.g.
with a cover, a cloth or protective foil.

 When the Tepan Yaki is switched on either deliberately or by
mistake, or when there is residual heat present, there is the risk of
any metal items left on the Tepan Yaki heating up. Other materials
can melt or catch fire. Do not use the Tepan Yaki as a resting place
for anything. Always disconnect the Tepan Yaki from the power
supply when you have finished using it.
 You could burn yourself on the hot Tepan Yaki. Protect your hands
with heat-resistant pot holders or gloves when using the Tepan Yaki.
Do not let them get wet or damp. Heat transfers through damp and
wet material more quickly with the risk of scalding or burning
yourself.
 When using an electrical appliance, e.g. a hand-held food blender,
near the Tepan Yaki, ensure that the cable of the electrical appliance
cannot come into contact with the hot Tepan Yaki. This could
damage the cable insulation.
 Placing hot pans on the sensors and indicators could damage the
electronics underneath. Do not place hot pans on the sensors or
indicators.
 Because induction heating works extremely quickly, the
temperature could reach the flash point of oils and fats within a very
short time. Do not leave the Tepan Yaki unattended whilst it is being
used.
 For people fitted with a heart pacemaker: please note that the
area immediately surrounding the Tepan Yaki is electromagnetically
charged when it is switched on. It is very unlikely to affect a
pacemaker. However, if in any doubt, consult the manufacturer of
the pacemaker or your doctor.
 When switched on, the electromagnetic field of the Tepan Yaki
can impair the function of magnetisable objects. Do not leave credit
cards, digital storage devices, pocket calculators, etc. in the
immediate vicinity of the Tepan Yaki.

 Metal objects stored in a drawer under the Tepan Yaki can
become hot if the appliance is used intensively for a long time. Do
not store any metal objects in a drawer directly under the Tepan Yaki.
 The Tepan Yaki is fitted with a cooling fan. If a drawer is fitted
directly underneath the built-in Tepan Yaki, ensure that there is
sufficient space between the drawer and its contents and the
underside of the Tepan Yaki in order to ensure sufficient ventilation
for the Tepan Yaki. Do not store pointed or small items or paper in
the drawer. They could get in through the ventilation slots or be
sucked into the casing by the fan and damage the fan or impair
cooling.
 The Tepan Yaki gets very hot. Do not use plastic utensils. Even
heat-resistant plastic utensils are unsuitable.

Cleaning and care
 The steam from a steam cleaning appliance could reach live
electrical components and cause a short circuit.
Do not use a steam cleaner to clean the Tepan Yaki.
 If the Tepan Yaki is built-in above a pyrolytic oven or cooker, do
not use it during a Pyrolytic cleaning programme as this could trigger
the overheating protection device on the Tepan Yaki (see “Safety
features” – “Overheating protection”).
 Miele will guarantee to supply functional spare parts for a
minimum of 10years and up to 15years following the
discontinuation of your CombiSet.

Caring for the environment

Disposing of the packaging
material
The packaging material is used for
handling and protects the appliance
from transport damage. The packaging
material used is selected from materials
which are environmentally friendly for
disposal and can generally be recycled.
Recycling the packaging material
reduces the use of raw materials. Use
material-specific collection points for
valuable materials and take advantage
of return options. Your Miele dealer will
take the packaging material away.
Disposal of your old appliance
Electrical and electronic appliances
often contain valuable materials. They
also contain materials which, if handled
or disposed of incorrectly, could be
potentially hazardous to human health
and to the environment. They are,
however, essential for the correct
functioning of your appliance. Please
do not therefore dispose of it with your
household waste.
Please dispose of it at your local
community waste collection / recycling
centre or contact your Miele dealer for
advice.
Ensure that it presents no danger to
children while being stored for disposal.

How it works

The cooking surface of the Tepan Yaki
is heated by induction. An induction coil
is located under the cooking surface.
When the Tepan Yaki is switched on,
this coil creates a magnetic field which
impacts directly on the cooking surface
and heats it up.
Risk of burning due to hot items.
When the Tepan Yaki is switched on
either deliberately or by mistake, or
when there is residual heat present,
there is the risk of any metal items
left on the Tepan Yaki heating up.
Do not use the Tepan Yaki as a
resting place for anything.
After use, switch the Tepan Yaki off
with the sensor control.

Please stick the extra data plate for
the appliance supplied with this

in the “After sales service” section of
this booklet.
Remove any protective wrapping and
stickers.
Cleaning the SmartLine
element for the first time
Wipe all surfaces with a damp cloth
and then dry them.
Switching on the SmartLine
element for the first time
The metal components have a
protective coating. Smells and possibly
some vapours may occur when the
SmartLine element is used for the first
time. The heating of the induction coils
also causes odours in the first few
hours of operation. With each
subsequent use, the odour is reduced
until it disappears completely.
The smell and any vapours given off do
not indicate a faulty connection or
appliance and they are not hazardous
to health.
Please note that the heating-up time
for induction hobs is much shorter
than on conventional hobs.
