[4] Cautions for unit using R32 refrigerant
Basic work procedures are the same as those for conventional units using refrigerant R410A. However, pay careful
attention to the following points.
(1)Informationonservicing
(1-1)ChecksontheArea
Priortobeginningworkonsystemscontainingflammablerefrigerants,safetychecksarenecessarytoensurethatthe
riskofignitionisminimized.
Forrepairtotherefrigeratingsystems,(1-3)to(1-7)shallbecompletedpriortoconductingworkonthesystems.
(1-2)WorkProcedure
Workshallbeundertakenunderacontrolledproceduresoastominimizetheriskofaflammablegasorvaporbeing
presentwhiletheworkisbeingperformed.
(1-3)GeneralWorkArea
Allmaintenancestaffandothersworkinginthelocalareashallbeinstructedonthenatureofworkbeingcarriedout.
Workinconfinedspacesshallbeavoided.Theareaaroundtheworkspaceshallbesectionedoff.Ensurethatthecon-
ditionswithintheareahavebeenmadesafebycontrolofflammablematerial.
(1-4)CheckingforPresenceofRefrigerant
Theareashallbecheckedwithanappropriaterefrigerantdetectorpriortoandduringwork,toensurethetechnicianis
awareofpotentiallytoxicorflammableatmospheres.Ensurethattheleakdetectionequipmentbeingusedissuitable
forusewithallapplicablerefrigerants,i.e.non-sparking,adequatelysealedorintrinsicallysafe.
(1-5)PresenceofFireExtinguisher
Ifanyhotworkistobeconductedontherefrigerationequipmentoranyassociatedparts,appropriatefireextinguishing
equipmentshallbeavailabletohand.
HaveadrypowderorCO2fireextinguisheradjacenttothechargingarea.
(1-6)NoIgnitionSources
Nopersoncarryingoutworkinrelationtoarefrigerationsystemwhichinvolvesexposinganypipeworkshalluseany
sourcesofignitioninsuchamannerthatitmayleadtotheriskoffireorexplosion.Allpossibleignitionsources,includ-
ingcigarettesmoking,shouldbekeptsufficientlyfarawayfromthesiteofinstallation,repairing,removinganddisposal,
duringwhichrefrigerantcanpossiblybereleasedtothesurroundingspace.Priortoworktakingplace,theareaaround
theequipmentistobesurveyedtomakesurethattherearenoflammablehazardsorignitionrisks.“NoSmoking”signs
shallbedisplayed.
(1-7)VentilatedArea
Ensurethattheareaisintheopenorthatitisadequatelyventilatedbeforebreakingintothesystemorconductingany
hotwork.Adegreeofventilationshallcontinueduringtheperiodthattheworkiscarriedout.Theventilationshould
safelydisperseanyreleasedrefrigerantandpreferablyexpelitexternallyintotheatmosphere.
(1-8)ChecksontheRefrigerationEquipment
Whereelectricalcomponentsarebeingchanged,theyshallbefitforthepurposeandtothecorrectspecification.Atall
timesthemanufacturer’smaintenanceandserviceguidelinesshallbefollowed.Ifindoubt,consultthemanufacturer’s
technicaldepartmentforassistance.
Thefollowingchecksshallbeappliedtoinstallationsusingflammablerefrigerants:
• Thechargesizeisinaccordancewiththeroomsizewithinwhichtherefrigerantcontainingpartsareinstalled.
• Theventilationmachineryandoutletsareoperatingadequatelyandarenotobstructed.
• Markingtotheequipmentcontinuestobevisibleandlegible.Markingsandsignsthatareillegibleshallbecorrected.
• Refrigerationpipeorcomponentsareinstalledinapositionwheretheyareunlikelytobeexposedtoanysubstance
whichmaycorroderefrigerantcontainingcomponents,unlessthecomponentsareconstructedofmaterialswhichare
inherentlyresistanttobeingcorrodedoraresuitablyprotectedagainstbeingcorroded.
(1-9)ChecksonElectricalDevices
Repairandmaintenancetoelectricalcomponentsshallincludeinitialsafetychecksandcomponentinspectionproce-
dures.Ifafaultexiststhatcouldcompromisesafety,thennoelectricalsupplyshallbeconnectedtothecircuituntilitis
satisfactorilydealtwith.Ifthefaultcannotbecorrectedimmediatelybutitisnecessarytocontinueoperation,anade-
quatetemporarysolutionshallbeused.Thisshallbereportedtotheowneroftheequipmentsoallpartiesareadvised.
Initialsafetychecksshallincludethat:
• capacitorsaredischarged:thisshallbedoneinasafemannertoavoidpossibilityofsparking;
• noliveelectricalcomponentsandwiringareexposedwhilecharging,recoveringorpurgingthesystem;
• thereiscontinuityofearthbonding
(2)RepairstoSealedComponents
(2-1)Duringrepairstosealedcomponents,allelectricalsuppliesshallbedisconnectedfromtheequipmentbeingworked
uponpriortoanyremovalofsealedcovers,etc.Ifitisabsolutelynecessarytohaveanelectricalsupplytoequipment
duringservicing,thenapermanentlyoperatingformofleakdetectionshallbelocatedatthemostcriticalpointtowarn
ofapotentiallyhazardoussituation.
(2-2)Particularattentionshallbepaidtothefollowingtoensurethatbyworkingonelectricalcomponents,thecasingisnot
alteredinsuchawaythatthelevelofprotectionisaffected.Thisshallincludedamagetocables,excessivenumberof
connections,terminalsnotmadetooriginalspecification,damagetoseals,incorrectfittingofglands,etc.
Ensurethattheapparatusismountedsecurely.
Ensurethatsealsorsealingmaterialshavenotdegradedtothepointthattheynolongerservethepurposeofprevent-
ingtheingressofflammableatmospheres.
Replacementpartsshallbeinaccordancewiththemanufacturer’sspecifications.
