Introduction
The WIB2D is a sma portab e NAVTEX receiver. The device receives simu taneous y
NAVTEX-messages on medium wave frequencies 518 kHz (internationa , Eng ish) and on
490 kHz (nationa , nationa anguage).
The NAVTEX messages are disp ayed on 128 x 64 pixe LCD. The WIB2D equiped with
an inserted precision air pressure sensor, is ab e to record the air pressure during a period
of up to seven days. On the device disp ay on y the air pressure of the ast two days can
be seen.
An antenna insta ation is not necessary, since the WIB2D is equipped with an interna
ferrit rod antenna. The device is equipped with rechargeab e batteries (3 x NiMH, Typ
AAA). The battery capacity asts for approx. three days of operation.
The device can be connected to the PC via an USB interface. The data of the WIB2D wi

NETHERLANDS COASTGUARD
NAVIGATIONAL WARNING NR. 9 172128 UTC AUG
PLATFORM L10-G 53-29. N 00 -11.7E
UNLIT
NNNN
Each NAVTEX-message begins with the etters ZCZC, fo owed by the message
identification (PA09). The first etter of the message identification serves the master station
for identification. In this examp e it is NETHERLANDS COASTGUARD (P).
In the second etter the kind of message is coded, here navigationa warning (navigation
warnings). The ast two numbers of the message identification (09) are a seria numbers.
The number 00 has a privi eged position. It is reserved for distress messages.
NAVTEX messages have a time stamp. It is shown at the end of the third ine (172128
UTC August) and means: 17. August, 21:28 UTC. The time stamp refers to the date, the
message was produced and not to the time of the radiant transmission. Afterwards the
message content fo ows. The message ends with NNNN.
To disp ay NAVTEX messages p ease fo ow the menus entries

Hints to radio reception
The interna ferrite rod antenna of the WIB2D has a
directiona ity. For good reception the equipment must be
operating f at ying.
With sma distance to the transmitter the directiona ity of
the antenna wi become hard y noticeab e. The range of
the bad receipt (see i ustration) is hard y to be
determined.
With increasing distance from the transmitter the
directiona ity of the antenna wi become more visib e. In
this case the WIB2D must be a igned to the transmitter
for a good receipt.
E ectromagnetic interferences can impair the receipt.
This can occur due to e.g. computer, e ectronic
navigation equipment, f uorescent amps, inverters,
battery chargers, generators, e ectric motors, high
vo tage transmission ines etc.
Therefore the equipment shou d be positioned as far away as possib e from this
equipment. The receipt can be impaired a so by atmospheric disturbances (e.g.
Thunderstorms).
The transmission method for NAVTEX-messages (Sitor) permits a reduced recognition
and correction of transfer errors. Characters, which were not received correct y, wi be
shown by the WIB2D as an under ined (_). Neverthe ess it is possib e that a so norma y
represented characters are incorrect. Stea and/or a uminium yachts are ike Faraday's
cages. An insufficient receipt is probab e.
Rechargeable batteries
The WIB2D contains three NiMH rechargeab e batteries, type AAA with a capacity of 800
mAh. P ease use the attached 12V charging adaptor to charge the batteries of the WIB2D.
The batteries can a so be charged at the PC's USB interface.
Fu y recharged batteries ast in use for approx. three days. The battery management of
the WIB2D a ways provides for optima y recharged batteries, so you don't have to pay
attention about the recharging of the batteries. If you do not want to use the WIB2D for a
onger period ( onger than one year), it is meaningfu to take out the batteries in fu
recharged condition out of the device and to rep ace them when needed. Pay particu ar
attention to the correct po arity.
If you want to exchange the batteries, use on y fast rechargeb e NiMH batteries, type AAA
with a capacity of min. 800 mAh.
Used up batteries must du y be disposed and do not be ong into domestic waste.
