Preparation
Thoroughlyinspectthe areawherethe equipmentisto be
used.Removealldoormats,newspapers,sleds,boards,
wiresandotherforeignobjects,whichcouldbetrippedover
orthrownbythe auger/impeller.
Alwayswearsafetyglassesor eyeshieldsduringoperation
andwhile performinganadjustmentorrepairto protectyour
eyes.Thrownobjectswhichricochetcancause serious
injurytothe eyes.
Do notoperatewithoutwearingadequatewinterouter
garments.Do notwearjewelry,longscarvesorother
looseclothing,whichcould becomeentangledin moving
parts.Wearfootwearwhich willimprovefootingonslippery
surfaces.
Useagroundedthree-wireextensioncordandreceptacle
forall unitswithelectric startengines.
Adjustcollectorhousingheighttocleargravelorcrushed
rocksurfaces.
Disengageallcontrolleversbeforestartingthe engine.
Neverattemptto makeanyadjustmentswhileengineis
running,exceptwherespecificallyrecommendedinthe
operator'smanual.
Letengineandmachineadjusttooutdoortemperature
beforestartingtoclearsnow.

beforestartingtheengine.
i. Neverstorethe machineorfuel containerinsidewhere
there isan openflame,sparkor pilotlight(e.g.furnace,
waterheater,spaceheater,clothesdryeretc.).

Operation
1. Donot puthandsorfeet nearrotatingparts,inthe
auger/impellerhousingor chuteassembly.Contactwiththe
rotatingpartscanamputatehandsandfeet.
2. The auger/impellercontrolleveris a safetydevice.Never
bypassitsoperation.Doingso makesthe machineunsafe
andmaycausepersonalinjury.
3. The controlleversmustoperateeasilyin bothdirections
and automaticallyreturntothe disengagedpositionwhen
released.
4. Neveroperatewitha missingor damagedchuteassembly.
Keepall safetydevicesin placeandworking.
5. Neverrunan engineindoorsor in a poorlyventilatedarea.
Engineexhaustcontainscarbonmonoxide,anodorlessand
deadlygas.
6. Donotoperatemachinewhile underthe influenceofalcohol
or drugs.
7. Mufflerandenginebecomehotandcan causeaburn.Do
nottouch.
8. Exerciseextremecautionwhenoperatingonor crossing

14.Disengagepowerto the auger/impellerwhentransportingor
notin use.
15.Neveroperatemachineat hightransportspeedsonslippery
surfaces.Lookdownandbehindand usecarewhen
backingup.
16.Ifthe machineshouldstartto vibrateabnormally,stopthe
engine,disconnectthe sparkplugwireand groundit against
the engine.Inspectthoroughlyfor damage.Repairany
damagebeforestartingandoperating.
17.Disengageallcontrolleversandstopenginebeforeyou
leavethe operatingposition(behindthe handles).Wait
untilthe auger/impellercomestoa completestop before
uncloggingthe chuteassembly,makinganyadjustments,or
inspections.
18.Neverputyourhandin thedischargeor collectoropenings.
Alwaysusethe clean-outtoolprovidedtounclogthe dis-
chargeopening.Donot unclogchuteassemblywhileengine
isrunning.Shutoffengineand remainbehindhandlesuntil
all movingpartshavestoppedbeforeunclogging.
19.Useonlyattachmentsandaccessoriesapprovedbythe
manufacturer(e.g.wheelweights,tire chains,cabsetc.).

Maintenance & Storage
1. Nevertamperwithsafetydevices.Checktheirproper
operationregularly.Refertothe maintenanceandadjust-
mentsectionsofthis manual.
2. Beforecleaning,repairing,or inspectingmachinedisen-
gageall controlleversandstopthe engine.Wait untilthe
auger/impellercometoa completestop.Disconnectthe
sparkplugwireandgroundagainstthe engineto prevent
unintendedstarting.
3. Checkboltsand screwsforpropertightnessatfrequent
intervalsto keepthe machinein safeworkingcondition.
Also,visuallyinspectmachineforanydamage.
4. Do notchangethe enginegovernorsettingor over-speed
theengine.Thegovernorcontrolsthemaximumsafe
operatingspeedoftheengine.
5. Snowthrowershaveplatesandskidshoesaresubjectto
wearanddamage.Foryoursafetyprotection,frequently
checkallcomponentsand replacewith originalequipment
manufacturer's(OEM)partsonly."Useof partswhichdo
notmeetthe originalequipmentspecificationsmayleadto
improperperformanceandcompromisesafety!"
6. Checkcontrolsperiodicallytoverify theyengageand
disengageproperlyandadjust,if necessary.Referto the
adjustmentsectioninthis operator'smanualforinstructions.
7. Maintainor replacesafetyandinstructionlabels,as neces-
sary.

etc.toprotectthe environment.

Toavoidseriousinjuryordeath,donot modifyengineinany
way.Tamperingwiththegovernorsettingcan leadto arunaway
engineandcauseit tooperateatunsafespeeds.Nevertamper
withfactorysettingofenginegovernor.

Engineswhicharecertifiedto complywithCaliforniaandfederal
EPAemissionregulationsforSORE(SmallOff RoadEquipment)
arecertifiedtooperateonregularunleadedgasoline,and may

Removing From Carton
1. Cutthecornersofthecartonandlaythesidesfiaton
theground. Removeall packinginserts.
2. Theupperhandleispackagedunattachedtothe
snowthrower,thoughconnectedbycanes. Move
thesnowthrowerandupperhandleoutofthecarton.
3. Makecertainthecartonhasbeencompletely
emptiedbeforediscardingit.
Before Assembly

wireand Ground itagainstthe engine
to preventunintendedstarting.
NOTE:Referencetoright,left,frontor rearofthe unitis
fromtheoperatingpositionunlessotherwisestated.
Setting Up The Handle
1. Loosenand removethewingknob,saddlewasher,
handletabandcarriagescrewoneachsideofthe
lowerhandle.SeeFigure1.
2. Lifttheupperhandleupandpositionitoverthe
lowerhandle,aligningtheholeswherethewing
knobswereremoved.SeeStep1inFigure2.
CAUTION:Be careful not to bend or kink thecables.

handletab,theupperandlowerhandles,a saddle
washerandintothewingknob. Repeatonotherside.
Tightenthewingknobsoneachsideofthehandle.
Referto Step2 inFigure2.
Loosenthechuteknobontheupperchute(l) and
pivottheupperchuteupwards(2)as faras itwillgo.

Clean-Out Tool
Thistool,andtheelectricextensioncord,maybe
fastenedwithacabletietotherearoftheaugerhousing
forshippingpurposes.Inthatcase,cutthecabletieand
removetheextensioncordnow.
Final Adjustments
IMPORTANT:Checktheadjustmentsasinstructedand
makeanyfinaladjustmentsnecessarybeforeoperating
theunit.Checkall nutsandboltsfortightness.Failureto
followtheseinstructionsmaycausedamagetounit.

position.Whentheareatobeclearedisuneven,placeskid
shoesinthemiddleorhighposition.SeeFigure4.
NOTE:Operationofthissnowthrowerongravelisnot
recommendedasloosegravelcanbeeasilypicked
upandthrownbytheaugercausingpersonalinjuryor
damagetothesnowthrower.If youhavetooperateiton
gravel,keepskidshoeinhighestpositionformaximum
clearance.
1. Adjustskidshoesbylooseningtwohexnutsand
carriageboltsoneachskidshoe,andmoveskidshoe
tothedesiredposition.SeeFigure4.
2. Makecertaintheentirebottomsurfaceofskidshoe
isagainstthegroundtoavoidunevenwearonthe
skidshoes.
3. Tightennutsandboltssecurely.
Routing The Drive Cable
1. Thedrivecable,andaugercableroutedownthrough
thespeedcontrolboxonthe leftsideofthe handle.
Theaugercable,andspeedcontrolcablethenroute
downtheleftlowerhandle.Thedrivecableisrouted
acrossthetopofthelowerhandleandfinallydown
therightlowerhandle. SeeFigure5.
.Threecabletieshavebeenusedtolooselytiethetwo
controlcablestothelowerhandle.Twoofthesecable
tiesareoneacharm,andthirdonthetopcrossbarof
thelowerhandle.Tightenthesecabletiestosecure
cablestothelowerhandle.SeeFigure5.
Auger Control Test
IMPORTANT:Performthefollowingtestbeforeoperat-
ingthesnowthrowerforthefirsttimeandatthestartof
eachwinterseason.
Checktheadjustmentoftheaugercontrolasfollows:
1. Whenaugercontrolisreleasedand inthedisen-
gaged"up"position,cableshouldhaveverylittle
slack,butshouldNOTbetight.
WARNING:Do notover-tighten the
cable.Over-tightening may prevent the
auger from disengagingand compro-
misethe safetyof thesnowthrower.
2. Ina well-ventilatedarea,startthesnowthrower
engineasinstructedon page10undertheheading
"ToStartEngine."Makesurethethrottleissetin the
FASTposition.
3. Whilestandinginoperator'sposition(behindunit)
engageauger.
4. Allowaugerto remainengagedforapproximately
ten(10)secondsbeforereleasingtheaugercontrol.
Repeatthisseveraltimes.
5. WiththeenginerunningintheFASTpositionandthe
augercontrolinthedisengaged"up"position,walk
tothefrontofthemachine.
6. Confirmthattheaugerhascompletelystopped
rotatingandshowsNOsignsofmotion.
IMPORTANT:IftheaugershowsANYsignsofrotating,im-
mediatelyreturntotheoperator'spositionandshutoffthe
engine.Waitforallmovingpartstostopbeforereadjusting
theaugercontrolcableasshownonpage14.

thedrivecontrolagainsttheupperhandletoengagethe

Squeezetheaugercontrolagainsttheupperhandleto
engagetheaugers;releasetodisengagetheaugers.

Chute Handle
Thedirectionofsnowthrowingcorrespondstothe
directionof thechuteopening.Usethechutehandle
toturnthechuteassemblyinthedirectionyouwishto
throwthesnow.
Chute Knob
Thedistancesnowisthrowncanbeadjustedbyeither
raisingorloweringtheupperchute.Loosenthechute
knobon thesideoftheupperchutetoadjust.Pivotthe
upperchutetodesiredposition,and retightenthechute
knob.
Speed Selection Lever
Yoursnowthrowerisequippedwitha3-speedpower
propelleddrivesystem.Thespeediscontrolledbythis
speedselectionlever,locatedontheleft sideofthe
upperhandle. Threespeedsareprovided.Withthelever
allthewaydown,towardstheengine,speed1isyour
slowestspeed.
IMPORTANT:Toshiftgears,theunitmustberunning
andthedrivecontrolmustbe released.
Shave Plate
Theshaveplatemaintainscontactwithpavementas
thesnowthrowerispropelled,allowingsnowcloseto

throwerisnotgoingtobe usedfor30daysorlonger.
Storegasolineina cleancontainerandkeepthecap
in placeonthecontainer.
