3.1.2 Interfaces
Ethernet ports The TX ports are designed for twisted pair cables with RJ45 connectors.
NOTE
Please use CAT5 cables as a minimum. These cables have the required
technical specifications, e.g., the necessary impedance. The switches are
designed for this impedance level. Using cables with other impedances
may lead to signal reflection in the cable.
A pinout diagram of the RJ45 socket is shown in Fig. 3-3: "RJ45 socket pin-
out".
Pin 1 and pin 2 (RD + and RD -) transfer received data, while pin 3 and pin 6
(TD + and TD -) transfer sent data. Pins 4, 5, 7 and 8 (NC) are not used for
Ethernet transfer purposes.
Ethernet ports Auto-crossover function
NOTICE
The switch has an auto-crossover function for each port in auto-negotiation
mode.
For this reason, the pinouts for received and sent data are interchange-
able!
Auto-polarity function
The switch has an auto-polarity function for each port.
USB interface The TREE M-4TX PN and TREE M-6TX PN TREE managed switches have a
USB interface (serial - FTDI Virtual COM Port).

3.1.4 Power supply
Power supply An integrated supply unit regulates the voltage required for the device. The ex-
ternal 24 V DC power supply is connected to the device using the four-pole
connector. The device has an integrated reverse polarity protection system.
3.1.5 Alarm contact on TREE M-6TX PN
TREE M-6TX PN contains an alarm contact (see Fig. 3-4: and Fig. 3-5: ).
Selectable ports can be monitored for link-downs. A signal/alarm is generated
whenever a link-down occurs.
NOTE
Link-downs occur when the connectors are removed from the ports or if the
connection to the device is interrupted, e.g. if there is a break in the cable.
NOTE
The alarm contact can be deactivated in the webserver to avoid false alarms
(see 11 "Web server").
3.2 PROFINET IO Communication
IEC 61784-2 PROFINET IO is an open communication protocol that complies with IEC
61784-2. The communication protocol is based on Ethernet.
Data exchange Data is exchanged between the control unit, referred to as the PROFINET IO
Controller, and connected users, which are called PROFINET IO devices.
Communication Communication is based on a full-duplex Ethernet network running at
100 Mbit/s. IO controllers and IO devices communicate by means of Ethernet
telegrams. Devices exchange data cyclically based on the provider-consumer
principle. Devices function as receiver (consumer) and transmitter (provider)
at the same time.
The IO controller sends output data to the IO devices and receives input data
from the IO devices. The IO devices send input data and receive output data.
Other components of the communication protocol include telegrams in form of
acyclic communication for parameter transfer and read/write access to the
I&M data or manufacturer-specific features.
3.3 Structure of the conformance classes
Structure The scope of functions of PROFINET IO is clearly classified in "Conformance
Classes" (CC). These classes give a clear overview of the various minimum
properties. There are three conformance classes:

Product description
User manual 58185_TREE M4/6-TX PN IP20_hdb_en_10 20/103
Fig. 3-6: Structure of the conformance classes
CC-A CC-A offers basic functions for PROFINET IO with RT communication. Typical
cycle time starting at 2 ms. In this case, unmanaged switches can be used,
too. Wireless communication is possible only in this class. All TREE-managed
PROFINET switch devices conform with this class. The TREE unmanaged
switches by MURRELEKTRONIK can be used as switches.
CC-B CC-B enhances the concept by the inclusion of network diagnosis and topol-
ogy information. Typical cycle time starting at 2 ms. The topology information
and projected device names enable easy device exchange. The defective de-
vice can be easily exchanged with a new device with factory settings. All
TREE-managed PROFINET switch devices conform with this class. Al-
though the TREE unmanaged switches by Murrelektronik are transparent for
this information (LLDP protocol), they are not involved in the diagnosis and to-
pology information. If the switch is to be integrated in the topology of the PLC,
a PROFINET managed switch is required. The CC-B(PA) includes the impor-
tant system redundancy function as an extension to the CC-B which is re-
quired for process automation.
CC-C CC-C describes the basic functions for devices with hardware-supported
bandwidth reservation and synchronization (RT communication) and therefore
forms the basis for isochronous applications. The implementation of Isochro-
nous Real Time (IRT) in Ethernet controllers makes it possible to reach update
times of 250 μs and a jitter accuracy of less than 1μs.
