a. If water leaks, remove the housing and your Smartphone from water as quickly as
possible.
b. Keep the NAUTISMART PRO housing open when not in use for an extended period to
avoid deformation of the water seal O-ring or remove the O-ring, grease it with O-rings
Silicone gel and stow inside a plastic envelope.
c. Avoid direct sunlight, heat or fire.
d. Do not use the neck strap when diving with NAUTISMART PRO housing as it may cause
accidental strangulation.
e. Do not use NAUTISMART PRO housing for depths below 200 feet / 60m (IPX8).
f. Do not attempt to make any alteration to the NAUTISMART PRO housing as it may affect
its waterproof performance.

height.
j. NAUTISMART PRO design ensure strength when the housing is under pressure from the

k. If you accidentally or intentionally let NAUTISMART PRO fall from a height ,this event may
result in a permanent and unrecoverable damage of NAUTISMART PRO and possibly of the
Smartphone inside.

NAUTISMART PRO

l. Bluebox SRL accept no liability for this kind of damages neither for the NAUTISMART PRO
housing nor for the Smartphone.
In case a large temperature difference between air and water, condensation may occur in
the NAUTISMART PRO housing. Place a small bag of dry bead into the housing if necessary.
2.2 SETTING UP NAUTISMART PRO HOUSING
NAUTISMART PRO doesn’t need any special preparation before use . It will fit the great majority
of Smartphones as is, just out of the box. However, very small models or very thin ones might
need some adjustments of the housing using the internal spacer ( for thin smartphones ) or
the plastic spacer on the right side of the housing to compensate the smaller dimensions of
the smartphone.
The lateral plastic spacer that is built in the housing can be removed to leave extra space for
bigger phones or can be put in place flipped to compensate smaller ones.
2.3 WATERPROOF TEST FOR NAUTISMART PRO
Every single NAUTISMART PRO unit that ships is individually tested for water leakage down to
the nominal depth of 200ft ( 60 mt). This test ensure that every unit is checked for leaking and
defects before it leaves our factory. We care a lot about quality and because we are aware
that Smartphones are just more than telecommunication devices we make every effort to ship
out units that face what we promise, waterproofness down to 60 MT ( 200 ft ). However,
unforeseable events out of our control may always happen from the moment your NAUTISMART
PRO has left our factory till when it reaches you. Therefore we strongly suggest you try
NAUTISMART PRO for any water leak EMPTY before you bring it underwater with your
Smartphone inside.
a. Take NAUTISMART PRO out of the EVA case and ensure that the O-ring is properly in place.
The O-ring must be smooth, inside it’s guide and shall not be dirty or present any sort of
damage.

NAUTISMART PRO
WWW.NAUTISMART.NET
8
Pull the security pin and rotate the lateral locking mechanism clockwise. 1/4 rotation should
be enough to open the housing. Once the housing is opened check for O-ring integrity and
cleanness and re-close the housing by un-doing the action followed to open it. Rotate the
locking mechanism counter clockwise until you hear the “click” of the safety pin going back
into its place. NAUTISMART PRO is now safe and you can bring it underwater for the leakage
test.
b. We strongly suggest you test NAUTIRMART PRO for your intended use. So if you are a
SCUBA Diver we strongly suggest you bring it Underwater with you down to 40 mt* (
131 ft ) if possible.
* Dives beyond 40 mt ( 131 ft ) are allowed only to Tech Divers. If you intend to use
NAUTISMART PRO while snorkeling only, then you can test it even at home putting it
into the bath tub for example.
c. Remove NAUTISMART PRO from the water after at least 10 minutes and check it there is
any water inside before opening it. If no water can be seen it means that the water
leakage test has been successful and you can safely insert your Smartphone inside and

functions has been thought for communication ( I.E. attract someone’s attention while
under water ) only. DO NOT use built in strobe to take photos.

NAUTISMART PRO
WWW.NAUTISMART.NET

2.8 WATER LEAKAGE
a. Water leakage may occur for several reasons. Although Bluebox SRL quality
management process makes every effort to ship 100% safe and individually tested
units only, that are safe to perform at NAUTISMART PRO nominal depth of 60mt (200ft)
we are not in control of other events that may happen after NAUTISMART PRO units
leave our factory like incorrect stowage, shipping and handling, incorrect usage or
maintenance. For this reason it is extremely important that you read the following
recommendations.
b. In case a water leak is observed while using NAUTISMART PRO housing underwater ,
end your dive as soon as practicable and bring NAUTISMART PRO to surface as quick
as possible ( if you are a SCUBA diver this event will not authorize you to ignore your
safety stop, always perform your safety stop first ). Although modern smartphones can
sustain a certain amount of water in direct contact with them, this cannot be taken as
a “GO” when water is spotted inside NAUTISMART PRO. If there is a leak at a certain
depth the water will come into NAUTISMART PRO at high pressure no smartphone can
withstand. However, in the unlikely event of a water leakage, it is highly possible that
only few drops will start entering the housing; prompt reaction to this event (return to
surface) will greatly enhance the possibility that your smartphone will sustain no
damage.
c. Failure to follow our above mentioned recommendations may cause Smartphone short
circuit and permanent damage to it.
d. When water leakage has occurred unload your smartphone from NAUTISMART PRO and
dry it off using a cloth or a paper tissue. Inspect carefully and if screen has gone blank
or black send the smartphone to your trusted repair center without delay. Quick
response in this unlikely event can still save your smartphone.

2.9 MAINTENANCE OF MAIN O-RING
a. Keep the main O-ring clean and greased as a dirty O-ring may result in water leakage.
Sand particles, hair either human or animal, dust and any kind of fiber can impair the
O-ring sealing action. That’s why it is of vital importance to keep it clean and visually
inspected before every usage. A finger check of the entire O-ring is also suggested as
you may perceive non easily visible damages like cuts or less visible dirt. Just move
your finger along the O-ring in place to perform this check.
b. When the O-ring becomes dirty for whatever reason remove it from its place on the
NAUTISMART PRO. To perform this operation a guitar pick or any similar thin plastic
object may be used. DO NOT try to remove the O-ring with your finger nails or using
acuminate objects like needles and likely; permanent damage to the O-ring may occur
and it might become un usable.
c. When removing the O-ring from its place on NAUTISMART PRO , DO NOT over stretch it
as this action might break it or permanently damage it.
d. Gently clean the O-ring flushing fresh water on it while rinsing with your fingers
e. Apply one drop of O-ring grease as shown in figure below pulling the O-ring from one
direction until the entire O-ring is fully coated with grease.
f. Applying too much O-ring grease may result in O-ring leakage
g. Never use any other grease not suggested and/or supplied by Bluebox SRL.
h. Do not use paper towel or a cloth to apply the Grease, use your fingers only
i. Gently put the greased O-ring back into its place on the NAUTISMART PRO housing
j. Clean and lubricate the main O-ring periodically to ensure best performance.
k. When stowing NAUTISMART PRO for an extended period, remove the O-ring from its
place, perform actions b.,c.,d.,e. and stow the O-ring into a sealed plastic bag. This will
greatly enhance its duration and performances.
l. Replace the main O-ring annually
m. Also check the O-ring place on NAUTISMART PRO for dirt, dust, sand, hair and if present
remove it using a paper tissue before re-inserting the O-ring back in its place.

NAUTISMART PRO

13
2.10 MAINTENANCE OF OTHER O-RINGS
There are four other O-rings in the NAUTISMART PRO housing. In the three push buttons and
between the optical PVC glass and the structure of the housing. Although it is possible to
replace this O-rings at home, a certain technical skill and knowledge and proper tooling is
go ahead with this operation by yourself. Pushbuttons O-rings and Glass O-ring are designed
to last and perform for the entire NAUTISMART PRO expected life; however unforeseen
circumstances might lead to the need to replace these O-rings too. Please contact our service
before proceeding yourself. Improper actions, tooling and replacement O-rings may impair
NAUTISMART PRO water proofness and cause damage to the housing itself and to your
smartphone.
Maintenance of the push buttons O-rings:
a. Press Button 1 all the way down
b. Use the blunt end of a tooth pick to apply a small amount of grease to the junction of
the push button shaft and the rear housing
c. Press the button a few times so that the grease can be transferred to the push button
O-ring
d. Repeat a.,b. and c. for push buttons 2 and 3.
2.11 MAINTENANCE OF THE NAUTISMART PRO HOUSING
a. Generously wash and rinse NAUTISMART PRO after every use. Perform the washing
operation with caution and keeping the housing closed with the O-ring in place.
b. After using NAUTISMART PRO at sea or other salty or mineral rich waters ( i.e thermae or
spring waters ) put NAUTISMART PRO into a tank full of fresh water ( or tap water ) and
leave it there for few hours. This operation will allow salt and minerals adhering
NAUTISMART PRO surface to completely dissolve into the fresh water. Remember that
metal parts of NAUTISMART PRO are stainless steel and anodized aluminum hence
corrosion free, it is anyway possible that if fresh water washing is not performed some
OXIDATION may occur after some time of salt water usage.
c. Use a clean and dry soft cloth or paper tissue to gently dry the housing. Extra care shall
be exercised performing this operation as sand or dirt on the cloth may damage
NAUTISMART PRO causing scratches.
d. Use a paper tissue or a dry cloth to absorb ( not to wipe )the residue water from the
edge of the housing.
e. Use a soft , clean cloth or paper tissue to clean the inside of the Housing. Extra care
shall be exercised in proximity of the pushbuttons as the cleaning cloth may accidentally
remove the rubber caps from the pushbuttons shaft. In case one fall off it may be re
inserted in place.

g. Photo mode
Photo mode is the standard mode for taking photos. It will retain automatically all settings you
might want to alter for optimum results such as white balance or zoom.
h. Video Mode
Video mode is the standard mode for taking Videos. It will retain automatically all settings you
might want to alter for optimum results such as white balance or zoom.
i. Button alignment utility
By selecting this menu you will be able to enter the button alignment utility if for whatever
reason you need to re align the app software buttons to the NAUTISMART PRO buttons.
j. Video Quality
This menu will enable the choice between different video qualities among those supported by
your smartphone. i.e. Don’t expect to be able to select 4k videos if your smartphone camera is
not 4k.
k. White Balance
Just like any digital camera you will be able to adjust the white balance setting of you
smartphone camera to optimize results. This is especially important underwater while taking
photos with external light source ( Torch )
l. Flash Mode
Flash mode will trigger the built in flash of the camera to act as a strobe light. This has been
thought for communication purposes while underwater ( i.e. getting your buddy’s attention ).
It is not meant to be used to get lighting on a subject; remember that your smartphone is inside
NAUTISMART PRO and has a glass in front of the camera. Using the built in flash to light a subject
will result in glares and reflections on the picture making it unusable. Always use external light
source to light your subject underwater.
m. Keep Alive
Keep alive is the feature that allows your screen to be on at all time during a dive. It is strongly
suggested that you adjust your smartphone screen backlight to a minimum , especially when
operating underwater. During a dive you won’t need much backlight on your screen to clearly
see and operate it, instead, setting it too bright might cause nuisance and difficulties in
operating the camera especially during night dives and , of course, will concur in depleting your
battery at a much faster rate. If for whatever reason you need to use your smartphone after a
dive and want to save your battery , you might turn “keep alive” off. This action will shut down
your screen after a while and you won’t be able to turn it on again. You will need to turn your
smartphone on out of NAUTISMART Pro after the dive and turn “keep alive” back on to be able
to operate it back.

n. Zoom
Zooming capability is linked to the smartphone’s camera one. If your smartphone doesn’t support
zooming so NAUTISMART PRO app won’t. Zoom in may enhance photo results especially in
underwater macro photography.
o. Menu Exit
You must reach this sub menu to return to the home screen and use your camera or video camera
as required.
