NEVERpushthebuttonsunderwater,whenthewatchiswetorwhenyouarecleaningorrinsingtheunit.Youareactuallypushing
water inside the watch.

with a lightly moistened cloth.
ALWAYSrinsethewatchwithcleartapwaterafterexposuretosaltwater.Saltishighlycorrosiveandcandamageboththerubber
seals and the watch case.
PROTECTthewatchfromextremeheat,shocksandexcessiveexposuretodirectsunlight.
NEVERexposethewatchtostrongchemicalssuchasgasoline,cleaningsolvents,acetone,alcohol,insectrepellent,sunscreenand
othertoiletries,astheymaydamagetheunit.
KEEPtheunitoutofthereachofchildrenandpets.Theunitcontainssmallpartsthatmightbeswallowed.
NEVERdisassembleormodifytheunit.ModicationstothisunitwillVOIDTHEWARRANTY.
CARE OF THE HEART RATE TRANSMITTER
• Aftereveryuseyoushouldrinsethetransmitterstrapandelasticinwarmfreshwateranddrywithadrycloth.
• Donotstorethetransmitterwhenwetasthismayshortenthebatterylife.
• Thetransmittershouldbestoredatratherthanfoldedandshouldnever
be bent or stretched as this may damage the electrodes.
• Neverlayyourheartratetransmitteronametalsurface,asthiswillquicklydrainthebattery.

WEARING THE HEART RATE TRANSMITTER
Theheartratetransmitterstrapconsistsoftwoconductiveelectrodes
attached to a small radio transmitter housed in the center of the strap.
Theelectrodessensetheelectricalpotentialcreatedeachtimeyourheart
contracts and the radio transmitter sends a signal to the watch each time
the electrodes sense the heart beat.
Forthebestperformance,alayerofsweatshouldbebuiltupbetweenyourskin
andtheelectrodesofthetransmitter.Thismakesiteasierfortheelectrodes
to “see” the electrical signal.
Oncooldaysoratthebeginningofyourworkout,itmaybenecessary
to moisten the electrodes on the back of the transmitter using saliva
or one of the commercially available conductive creams.
DONOTusetapwatertomoistentheelectrodesastapwaterwillact
as an insulator rather than a conductor and may actually reduce
the performance of the system.
Thetransmittershouldbewornaroundtheribcage,justbelowthepectoralmuscles.
Theelasticstrapofthesystemshouldbeadjustedsothatitissnugenoughsoit
doesnotmoveduringuse,butnotsotightastorestrictbreathing.
Whilethewearingofthetransmitterstrapmayfeelabitstrangeinitially,
most people become used to it within a few days and cease
to even notice they are wearing it.

TIME MODE
InTIMEmode,youcansetthetimeofdayanddate
for your local time zone and the clock format (12/24 Hour).
Setting Time and Date

upon each button press and at the top of each hour.
NOTE: Turning the button chime ON, does effect the overall
battery life.You will experience a longer battery life
if you leave the button chime OFF.

HRM MODE
HRM mode is the performance chronograph mode where you
viewcurrentHRM,percentagemaximumHRM,totalcalories
burned,totalrunningtimeandyourheartratezones.
Using the Preset Heart Rate Intensity Levels
TheN4hastheabilitytoautomaticallysettheusersheartrate
zonebasedthefollowingequations.Thesettingcanbefound
in HRM mode user settings.
MaleMaximumHeartRate=214-(0.8*age)
FemaleMaximumHeartRate=209-(0.7*age)
L1(LightIntensityWorkout)=60%MaxHRto70%MaxHR
L2(MediumIntensityWorkout)=70%MaxHRto80%MaxHR

Heart Rate Zone Alarm and Limit Indicators

Using the Chronograph & Saving Workout to Data Mode or
Clearing Workout without Saving to Data Mode

The chronograph must be stopped to save or clear the data.

NOTE: All workout data will be lost if you clear HRM mode
without saving.

one accumulated record of the 9 runs within memory.
Below is a list of the information stored within data mode
for each workout and accumulated record.

DATA MODE
Reviewing Stored Workouts
• FromDATAmode,PRESSSTART/VIEWtoselectdesired
workout or accumulated record.
• Thestoredinformationforeachworkoutwillbegin
to auto-scroll at 4 second intervals.
Clearing Stored Workouts
• Selecttheworkoutyouwishtoclearfrommemory.
• PRESS&HOLDLIGHT/SETfor3seconds
to clear the selected workout.
• ContinuetoHOLDLIGHT/SETforatotalof5seconds
toclearALLworkoutmemory.
NOTE: If you have the accumulated record selected,
all workout memory will be cleared after HOLDING
LIGHT / SET for only 3 seconds.
USING THE BACKLIGHT
• InANYmode,PRESSLIGHT/SET
to activate the 3 second backlight.
NOTE: Heavy use of the backlight will effect the overall battery
life. Although we recognize the backlight is an extremely
valuable feature of any watch, avoiding unnecessary activating
or pressing the backlight button in rapid succession
should be avoided.
ALARM MODE

BATTERY REPLACEMENT
Watch Battery
DONOTremovethescrewsandopenthecaseback.
Toensurewaterresistance,allbatteryreplacementonthewatchshouldbecompletedbyatrainedwatchrepairtechnician.
Heart Rate Transmitter Battery
Duetoalowerbatterylifethanthewatch,theHeartRatetransmitter
has a user replaceable battery hatch so you can replace the CR2032 battery.
NOTE: The battery hatch is plastic and can be easily damaged by applying too much pressure on the coin slot. DO NOT turn
the battery hatch excessively in either direction; this will help to avoid damage to the plastic battery hatch. For best results,
it is also recommended that you employ the assistance of a trained repair technician to replace the transmitter battery.
Follow the steps below to replace the transmitter battery.
• Usingacoin,turnthebatteryhatchcounter-clockwise15degrees
fromthehorizontalclosedpositiontotheOPENdotonthecaseback.
• Removethebatteryhatch.TakeextremecarenottodisplacetherubberO-ringwithinthebatterycavity.
Improperplacementwillcompromisethewaterresistanceofthetransmitter.
• RemovetheoldCR2032batteryandreplacewithanewone.
Again,takecarenottotouchtheO-ring.
• AlignthearrownexttothecoinslotwiththeOPENdotonthecaseback.
• Gentlypressthebatteryhatchdoneintothebatterycavity
until it is even with the caseback surface.
• Gentlyturnthebatteryhatchclockwisetotheoriginalposition
aligningthearrowwiththeCLOSEDdot.

TROUBLESHOOTING THE WATCH
Thewatchisaverysensitiveandsophisticatedinstrument.Ifproperlycaredforitshouldlastandremainaccurateformanyyears.
Ithasbeenourexperiencethatthemajorityoftheproblemsseenbyconsumerswithproductssuchasthisarerelatedtodead
or dying batteries.
Whiletheestimatedlifeofafreshbatteryinthewatchisapproximatelyoneyear,thiscanbeshortenedconsiderablyifthebacklight
featureofthewatchisusedextensively.Wheneveryouareexperiencingissuesrelatedtothefunctionoftheunititisrecommended
thatyouresetthewatchtofactorysettingsasarstcourseofaction.
Resetting the watch to factory settings
• PRESS&HOLDallfourbuttonsimultaneouslyuntilallsegmentsactivateinthedisplay.
• Thewatchwillautomaticallyresettofactorydefaults.
NOTE: Resetting the watch will erase ALL stored settings and workouts.
Iftheresetdoesnotsolvetheissue,itislikelytimetoreplacethebatteryespeciallyifithasbeenmore
than a 9 months since the last time the battery was replaced.

TROUBLESHOOTING THE HEART RATE TRANSMITTER
Ensure Proper Placement and Alignment of Transmitter on Chest
Ifyouarenotgettingagoodconnection,youmaybewearingthetransmittertoohighortoolowonthechest.
Adjustthepositiononthechesttoseeiftheconnectionchangestosatisfactoryresults.Youmaybeexperiencingissues
withconnectiondueinterferencewithworkoutshirts,undergarmentsorsportsbras.Ensurethatthetransmitteris100%
in contact with the skin and not on top of any clothing.
Cross-talk
Exercisingincloseproximitytootherpeopleusingheartratemonitorsmaycauseyourwatchtopickupsignalsfromcheststraps
otherthanyourown.ThisisknownasCross-talk.ToavoidproblemsassociatedwithCross-talkitisrecommendedthatyouseparate
yourself from others wearing heart rate monitors by a minimum of 3 feet or 1 meter in all directions.
Transmission Range
Theheartratemonitorsystemhasaneffectiverangeof28-30inches(.75meters).Ifthemonitorisseparatedfromthetransmitter
strapbyagreaterdistancethanthis,youmaynotbeabletoreceiveaheartratesignal.
Avoiding Environmental Interference with the Heart Rate Transmitter.
Analogheartratemonitorsfunctionusingaverylowtransmissionfrequency.Becauseofthistheyare susceptible to interference from
avarietyofelectromagneticandmicrowavesources.High-tensionpowerline,trafclightcontrols,homeandautomotiveelectronics,
poweredexerciseequipment;homesecurityandwirelessLANsystemsandotherthingsmayinterferewiththeabilityofthesystemto
register a heart rate.
Intermittentreadingsofzeroorofveryhighheartrates(exceeding210beats)areanindicationofsometypeofinterference.
Ingeneral,theinterferencecausedbythesesourcesislocalized.Afterafewsecondsoratmostminutes,
you should pass from the area of interference and the operation of the watch should return to normal.
