INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
Congratulations on choosing the ULTIMATUM XLS loudspeakers. Please read the following notes in order to get
the best fro the .
RUNNING IN
A 'running in' period of t le st 200 hours is necess ry for optimum perform nce.
SETUP
The XLS should be used on rigid stands and fixed with blu-tack or si ilar adhesive putty.
Caution: The XLS loudspeaker should be removed from the stand when being moved.
PLACEMENT IN THE ROOM
Roo acoustics vary tre endously and there are few hard and fast rules about place ent. A degree of
experi entation is necessary for opti u place ent but a starting point of 30 c fro rear walls and 60 c
fro side walls is suggested, with a toe-in of 10-20 degrees. Generally, bass output increases as distance fro
the rear wall, or roo corner, decreases. Stereo depth and associated effects i prove as the speaker is brought
away fro roo boundaries.
Perseverance at the setup stage will be rewarded. Move the loudspeaker in s all incre ents (2-3 c ) and
assess the changes until satisfied with the in-roo balance. Often, very s all changes of the loudspeaker
position can result in a substantial i prove ent in perfor ance.
CONNECTIONS
The ULTIMATUM XLS is supplied with bi-wiring/bi-a plification ter inals, which are fitted with links in order to
facilitate single wiring.
Bi-wiring is effected by running two sets of cable fro the a plifier output ter inals. Connect one set to the
lower and one set to the upper ter inals on the rear of the speaker. Take care to ensure correct phasing (i.e. red
and black connections aintained at a plifier and speaker). Bi-wiring can bring about a significant change in
perfor ance and this should be evaluated on an individual basis. So e a plifiers will respond better than
others, whilst personal taste is also a strong factor.
Bi-a plification is highly reco ended. This involves the use of 2 stereo a plifiers (or 4 ono a plifiers).
When this ode of operation is being considered, it is advisable to consult a dealer, or Neat Acoustics, for
advice.

MAINTENANCE
The ULTIMATUM XLS has no user-replaceable parts and requires no aintenance.
To clean, brush lightly with a dry, lint-free cloth.
Should a fault condition arise, consult your dealer.

WARRANTY
The ULTIMATUM XLS is guaranteed against defects in aterials and work anship for a period of five years.
This warranty is li ited to the original purchaser.
