Connecting to the Wi-Fi NetworkOn your phone, tablet or PC open your Wi-Fi
settings and change to the device’s network by
selecting its SSID (TeamSurv-nn-nnnnnn where
nn-nnnnnn is the serial number) and entering the
password (teamsurv). You may get a warning
saying no internet connection, which can be
ignored.
ConfigurationConfiguration is through a web browser
interface. Either open your web browser and go
to the device’s IP address (http://192.168.4.1) or,
if the IP address is the default, and you have QR
code software, just take a snap of the QR code to
open your web browser on the right page.
The home page shows the system informaiton,
and counts of messages going through, and
refreshes every 5 seconds. To view and edit the
settings, click on Configuration and enter the
password (teamsurv) to get to the configuration
menu.
Here we will just deal with the essentials to get
you started - refer to the web site or download
the manual for full information.
NMEASelect the data rate of the NMEA port. Standard
NMEA0183 runs at 4800bps, whilst most AIS
devices use 38400bps as standard. Both the
input and output ports run at the same data
rate.
Wi-FiThe gateway is ready to go in stand-alone AP
mode, though it is good practice to change your
SSID password from the default.
If you have a router with Wi-Fi on board, and
want to connect the gateway to this, select client
instead of AP. Enter the SSID and Password of the
router’s Wi-Fi network (you can click on the
network name to quickly set the SSID). Normally
you want a static IP address, so enter the IP
address you want to use and the subnet mask of
the router. Also, in the router DHCP settings,
reserve the IP address you have selected.
TCP and UDPTCP offers better performance by far, so select
this and switch off UDP unless your app can only
use UDP. Whichever you use, if your app requires
a specific port number, enter it here.
The TCP timeout frees the TCP port if your app
stops using it, and is worth setting to, say, 60
seconds, if this doesn’t interfere with your app.
Try it and see.
ApplyAfter making as many changes as you need, click
on Apply to update the gateway, which will then
restart with the new settings. If you don’t click on
Apply, no changes will be made to the gateway.
Reset ButtonPress and release the reset button briefly to
restart the gateway, with no changes to any
settings.
Press and hold the reset button for 5 seconds
until the Reset LED stops flashing, and release.
The gateway will now restart with all settings at
their factory defaults.
Configuring your AppWith your phone, tablet or PC connected to the
same Wi-Fi network as the gateway, you need to
start your app and configure its connection to
the gateway (unless the app developer has used
our protocol to connect to the gateway
automatically).
You may have a choice of connection type, e.g.
serial or Bluetooth - if so, select Wireless or Wi-Fi
or Network, depending on what the app
developer calls it.
For TCP, you need to enter the IP address of the
gateway (192.168.4.1), and set the port number
(10110) - unless the app insists on a specific port
number, in which case you need to set it in the
gateway to match the app. For broadcast UDP
you don’t need to set the IP address, but still
need to set the port number.
