Prepare the Printer
Note: Models designated “Letter/Legal” are those
which take paper up to legal size. Models
designated “Tabloid” take the larger tabloid
and tabloid extra size paper as well.
1. Turn off the printer and unplug the power cord.
2. Detach the interface cable from the back of the
printer.
3. Remove and save the thumbscrews (1) at the top
and bottom which hold the control board in
place.

4. Grasp the control board and loosen it by
wiggling it back and forth, then slide it out of the
printer.

Install the Hard Disk Drive (HDD)
1. Locate the drive connector (1) on the control
board:
2. Remove the HDD from its shipping package.

3. Lift the handle on the HDD and lower it onto the
control board.
4. Insert the board firmly into the connector and
press down on the handle to lock it in place.

Complete the Installation
1. Align the bottom of the control board with the
track in the printer and slide it back into place.

2. Reinstall the screws at the top and bottom of the
board.
3. Reattach the interface cable, then plug the power
cord into the power outlet and turn on the
printer.

Check for Proper Installation
1. On the printer control panel, press MENU once
or twice until INFORMATION MENU appears
on the display.
2. Press SELECT.
PRINT MENU MAP appears on the display.
3. Press SELECT.
The MenuMap prints.
4. Check the MenuMap printout:
• At the top of the printout you should see
"HDD:20.00 GB."
• In the right column you should see a new
menu section entitled DISK
MAINTENANCE.
5. If you do not see these, remove the control
board, lift the hard drive handle and check to be
sure that the hard drive is firmly inserted in the
connector. Then reinstall the control board and
print the Menu Map again.

Activate the Hard Disk in the
Print Driver
Windows®PCL Driver
1. Click Start →Settings →Printers.
2. Right click the Oki PCL driver icon, then click
Printing Preferences, Properties or
Document Defaults, depending on the
Windows system.
3. Click Device Option tab.
4. Click Printer Hard Disk to select it, then click
OK.
5. Click OK, then close the Printers dialog box.
Windows Adobe®PostScript®Driver
1. Click Start →Settings →Printers.
2. Right click the Oki PostScript driver icon, then
click Properties.
3. Click the Device Settings tab (Windows XP,
2000 and NT 4.0) or the Device Options tab
(Windows Me, 98, 95).

4. Under Installable Options, click Hard Disk and
select Installed.
5. Click OK, then close the Printers dialog box.
Macintosh®PostScript Driver, OS 10.3
Note: Mac OS 10.1x and 10.2x do not have
Configure printer activated.
1. Open the Printer Setup Utility.
2. Select the appropriate OKI printer.
3. Click Show Info.
4. Select Installable Options from the drop-down
list.
5. Click Hard Disk to select it, then click Apply
Changes.
6. Close the Printer Setup Utility.
Macintosh PostScript Driver, OS 9.x
1. Activate Chooser from the Apple menu.
2. Select LaserWriter 8.
3. Click Printer →Setup.
4. Click Configure.
5. Change the Hard Disk setting to Installed.
6. Click OK twice.
7. Close Chooser.
