PROFICIENCY REQUIRED
Media Loan
GENERAL PRECAUTIONS
1Never get the camera wet or subject it
to shock and vibration.
1Always use the camera strap.
1Never hold, twist, or pull on the
lens. It moves and focuses completely
electronically and cannot be focused
like a traditional camera lens. It is
integrated completely with the camera
and cannot be removed.
1Never force anything. If the battery,
a memory card, a compartment latch
or the lens doesn’t open, do not force
it. Read the instructions or contact
Media Loan. Handle the memory
cards carefully and return them to the
camera immediately after using them
in a card reader.
1Do not subject the camera to heat,
magnetism, shock, or moisture.
CHARGING THE BATTERY
This camera uses only BLM-1 lithium ion
batteries. The battery you receive should be fully
charged but when this runs out of power plug the
power cord into the charger and plug the other
end of the power cord into an electrical outlet.
Place the battery on the charger making sure that
it is correctly oriented.
The light on the charger tells you the status of the
charging process. Red means the battery is still
charging. Blinking red means that the charging
failed because the battery was not connected
properly. Green means that the charging is
complete.
LOADING & REMOVING THE BATTERY
Make sure the camera
is turned off whenever
inserting or removing the
battery.
To load, slide the battery
compartment lock to the
open position and ip the
lid open. Then insert the
battery, making sure that
it is correctly oriented with
the arrow end of the battery
entering rst. The battery
lock will secure the battery
when correctly loaded.
To remove the battery press the lock tab and pull
out.
USING THE MEMORY CARDS
The camera stores pictures on a Compact Flash
card which comes with the camera and will
already be loaded in the card slot.
Tip: If you need to remove or insert the cards
make sure the camera is turned off rst.

use is aligned with the red line and press the
power button to turn the camera on. (Note: the
camera will automatically turn off after 3 minutes
of inactivity.) There are several shooting modes:
a movie mode, a playback mode and a setup
mode. You can change the mode with the camera
turned on or off.
Tip: To select either the viewnder or the
monitor, press the monitor button. Adjust the
angle of the monitor by gently pulling on the
ridges on the sides.
CONTROL DIAL
Every mode has corresponding settings which
can be accessed by using either the menu
button or the direct buttons on the left side of
the camera. The direct buttons have different
functions depending on whether the camera is
in playback mode or one of the shooting modes.
In the shooting modes, you can use the direct
buttons in combination with the control dial (to
the right of the viewnder) to scroll through and
select options and menus that control the type
of metering, ash, focus, exposure, white
balance, recording mode, and the use of the
timer or remote control. To change these
parameters, hold down a button and turn the
control dial. The selection that is highlighted
at the moment you release the button is
now active. More options can be selected by
simultaneously pressing a direct button and
the OK button and then releasing the direct
button. You can then move through options
with the arrow buttons and then select one by
pressing the OK button again.
ZOOMING
You can zoom in and out on a subject you would
like to shoot by gently pushing the zoom lever
next to the mode dial towards either W (wide
angle) or T (telephoto).

the ash mode (using the ash direct button and
the control dial or the menu buttons). Depress the
shutter button halfway to prepare the ash for
ring. When the ash icon appears on monitor
the ash is ready to re.

camera adjust the focus. The AF target mark
moves to the focus position. The shutter speed
and aperture value automatically selected by the

to take the picture. The card access lamp blinks
while the picture is stored on the card. You can

value and shutter speed. Other functions, such
as ash mode and record mode can be adjusted
manually.

S- Shutter priority shooting allows you to set
the shutter speed manually. The camera sets
the aperture automatically. Turn control dial
to set the shutter speed. If the shutter speed is

aperture by turning the control dial while holding
down the +/- button.
Tip: Using the bulb setting for the shutter speed
allows you to take exposures of up to 8 minutes.
The shutter remains open as long as the shutter
button is held down.
EXPOSURE IN MANUAL
To check the exposure, refer to the exposure
differential displayed on the monitor. The value
given is the difference between two exposures,
one being the camera’s automatic settings,
and the currently selected exposure settings.
When the shutter button is halfway pressed,
the difference (ranging from –3.0 to +3.0 EV) is
displayed. If the exposure differential appears
in red in the viewnder or on the monitor, it
indicates that the exposure differential is less
than –3.0 EV or more than +3.0 EV.
AE LOCK
In high contrast situations the AEL (AE Lock)
can be used to lock the exposure. When pressed a
screen appears with a bar indicating the current
exposure differential.
OTHER SHOOTING MODES
Use the mode dial for night scene, landscape,
sports, and portrait mode. These activate optimal
settings for the type of shot that corresponds to
each mode.
AUTO FOCUS
In every mode except M you can set the camera to
full time auto focus so you do not have to depress
the shutter button halfway before each shot.
Press OK while holding down AF/MF and use the
arrow keys to select FULLTIME AF. Hit the right
arrow key to display the choices.
Use the arrows to turn it on and off. Press OK to
exit the menu.
Tip: Battery consumption increases when
FULLTIME AF is used.
In any of the auto focus modes you can change the
position of the AF target so that you can select
the area on which to focus. Set the AF mode to
SPOT. 2 Hold down AF/MF and use the arrow
pad to move the AF target mark to the area you
want to focus on. (In MF or super macro manual
focus mode, the AF target mark does not move
when the arrow pad is pressed.) Take the picture.

position, press OK while holding down AF/MF.
Turning the camera off or changing the shooting
mode will return the AF target to the center
position. The AF target mark cannot be moved
when the digital zoom is on.

while holding down AF/MF and select MF. When
you release your nger from the AF/MF button,
the distance indicator is displayed on the monitor.
Press the up and down arrows to set the focus.
The area in the middle is enlarged. This lets you
check whether the focus is correct.
The distance indicator on the left of the monitor
is for reference only. When the indicator is moved
to less than 2.6 ft., the display automatically
switches to a distance scale between 8” to 2.6 ft.
Take the picture.
The focus will be locked at the distance you have
set until you change it or change modes.
Tip: If you focus in auto mode and then switch
to manual then the auto focus will not change
settings.
