IV. Card Hardware Installation
If your Notebook Computer is ot yet equipped with USB 3.0 ports you ca use the bu dled
ExpressCard Co troller to upgrade it. To i stall the ExpressCard simply plug it i to the ExpressCard slot
of your otebook!
V. Software Driver Installation
Depe di g of the i stalled Operati g System, the host adapter may eed to have a system driver
i stalled i order to operate. Please follow these few simple steps below to i stall drivers if eeded.
1. I sert the CD disk i cluded i the package i to CD drive, the double click the ico to start the
i stallatio
2. Click the [Next] to co ti ue.

3. Select [I accept the terms of lice se agreeme t], a d click [Next] to co ti ue.
4. The select the default optio ico s to co ti ue setup. Till the setup wizard fi ish i stalli g the
device, click [Fi ish] to exit the wizard.

VI. Hardware Connection
1. Make sure your computer is operatio al.
2. Co ect the power cord. (Now the LED i dicator is off)
3. Co ect the e closure to the computer with USB 3.0 cable. Now the LED activity i dicator is o ,
a d the hard disk starts spi i g up. Co ecti g to a USB2.0 host port will work but yields lower
performa ce.
4. The , system will recog ize a d i stall the hard disk drive automatically.
ATTENTION: Before you can access and use the hard disk drive from “My Computer” or
“Windows Explorer” the drive needs to be formatted!!! If you are ot familiar doi g this, we i cluded
several step-by-step guides to the CD. The i structio s are provided as PDF docume ts o the CD.
“Acrobat Reader” from Adobe is eeded to ope a d view them. This tool is available as free
dow load o www.adobe.com.

VII. Unplugging Hardware
To protect the data i tegrity, drive has to be removed with followi g procedure.
Windows 2000, XP
1. Make sure that all ru i g applicatio s stored i the exter al drive are quitted.
2. Double click the [safe remove hardware] ico i the taskbar.
3. Select [USB Disk] a d click the [Stop] ico to safely remove the device. (You ca also click first o
[Display] device compo e ts] to show the detailed i formatio of the disk).
4. O ce system prompts the “USB Mass Storage Device ca ow be safely removed from the system”
you ca u plug the USB device.
Note: Do ot u plug or remove the device whe the HDD LED is o or bli ki g.
Windows Vista
1. Make sure that all relative wi dows are closed a d all ru i g applicatio s that are stored o the
exter al drive are quitted.
2. Double click the [safe remove hardware] ico i the taskbar.
3. Select [USB Disk] a d click the [Stop] ico to safely remove the device. (You ca also click first o
[Display] device compo e ts] to show the detailed i formatio of the disk).
