Important Safety Instructions
1. Read these instructions.
2. Keep these instructions.
3. Heed all warnings.
4. Follow all instructions.
5. Do not use this apparatus near water.
6. Clean only with dry cloth.
7. Do not block any ventilation openings. Install in
accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
8. Do not install near any heat sources such as radia-
tors, heat registers, stoves, or other apparatus
(including amplifiers) that produce heat.
9. Do not defeat the safety purpose of the polarized or
grounding-type plug. A polarized plug has two
blades with one wider than the other. A grounding
type plug has two blades and a third grounding
prong. The wide blade or the third prong are pro-
vided for your safety. If the provided plug does not
fit into your outlet, consult an electrician for
replacement of the obsolete outlet.
10. Protect the power cord from being walked on or
pinched particularly at plugs, convenience recepta-
cles, and the point where they exit from the appara-
tus.
11. Only use attachments/accessories specified by the
manufacturer.

Use only with the cart, stand,
tripod, bracket, or table spec-
ified by the manufacturer, or
sold with the apparatus.
When a cart is used, use cau-
tion when moving the cart/
apparatus combination to
avoid injury from tip-over.
13. Unplug this apparatus during lightning storms or
when unused for long periods of time.
14. Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel.
Servicing is required when the apparatus has been
damaged in any way, such as power-supply cord or
plug is damaged, liquid has been spilled or objects
have fallen into the apparatus, the apparatus has
been exposed to rain or moisture, does not operate
normally, or has been dropped.
15. Damage Requiring Service
Unplug the apparatus from the wall outlet and refer
servicing to qualified service personnel under the
following conditions:
A. When the power-supply cord or plug is damaged,
B. If liquid has been spilled, or objects have fallen
into the apparatus,
C. If the apparatus has been exposed to rain or
water,
D. If the apparatus does not operate normally by
following the operating instructions. Adjust only
those controls that are covered by the operating
instructions as an improper adjustment of other
controls may result in damage and will often
require extensive work by a qualified technician
to restore the apparatus to its normal operation,
E. If the apparatus has been dropped or damaged in
any way, and
F. When the apparatus exhibits a distinct change in
performance this indicates a need for service.
16. Object and Liquid Entry
Never push objects of any kind into the apparatus
through openings as they may touch dangerous volt-
age points or short-out parts that could result in a
fire or electric shock.
The apparatus shall not be exposed to dripping or
splashing and no objects filled with liquids, such as
vases shall be placed on the apparatus.
Don’t put candles or other burning objects on top of
this unit.
17. Batteries
Always consider the environmental issues and fol-
low local regulations when disposing of batteries.
18. If you install the apparatus in a built-in installation,
such as a bookcase or rack, ensure that there is ade-
quate ventilation.
Leave 20 cm (8") of free space at the top and sides
and 10 cm (4") at the rear. The rear edge of the shelf
or board above the apparatus shall be set 10 cm (4")
away from the rear panel or wall, creating a flue-
like gap for warm air to escape.

equilateral triangle, is intended to alert the user to the

the product’s enclosure that may be of sufficient

intended to alert the user to the presence of important
operating and maintenance (servicing) instructions in
the literature accompanying the appliance.

Precautions
1. Recording Copyright—Unless it’s for personal use
only, recording copyrighted material is illegal with-
out the permission of the copyright holder.
2. Care
—Occasionally you should dust the unit all over
with a soft cloth. For stubborn stains, use a soft cloth
dampened with a weak solution of mild detergent and
water. Dry the unit immediately afterwards with a
clean cloth. Don’t use abrasive cloths, thinners, alco-
hol, or other chemical solvents, because they may
damage the finish or remove the panel lettering.
3. Power
WARNING
BEFORE PLUGGING IN THE UNIT FOR THE
FIRST TIME, READ THE FOLLOWING
SECTION CAREFULLY.
AC outlet voltages vary from country to country.
Make sure that the voltage in your area meets the
voltage requirements printed on the AC adapter.
The AC adapter is used to disconnect this unit from
the AC power source. Make sure that the adapter is
readily operable (easily accessible) at all times.
If you do not intend to use the unit for an extended
period, remove the AC adapter from the AC outlet.
4. Batteries and Heat Exposure
Warning
Batteries (battery pack or batteries installed) shall not be
exposed to excessive heat as sunshine, fire or the like.
5. Never Touch this Unit with Wet Hands —Never
handle this unit or its power cord while your hands
are wet or damp. If water or any other liquid gets
inside this unit, have it checked by your Onkyo
dealer.
6. Handling Notes
• If you need to transport this unit, use the original
packaging to pack it how it was when you origi-
nally bought it.
• Do not leave rubber or plastic items on this unit
for a long time, because they may leave marks on
the case.
• This unit’s top and rear panels may get warm
after prolonged use. This is normal.
• If you do not use this unit for a long time, it may
not work properly the next time you turn it on, so
be sure to use it occasionally.

• The AC adapter supplied with the ABX-N300 is
designed exclusively for use with the ABX-N300. Do
not use it with any another device. Likewise, do not
use any other AC adapter with the ABX-N300. Doing
so may damage the ABX-N300.
• In catalogs and on packaging, the letter at the end of
the product name indicates the color. Specifications
.and operation are the same regardless of color.

Using the Remote
Controller
Remove the plastic film before using the remote controller.
When using the remote controller, point it toward the
ABX-N300’s remote control sensor, as shown below.
Replacing the Battery
Use only a battery of the same type (CR2025).
1While sliding the stopper to the side, pull
out the battery holder.
2Insert a lithium button battery in the battery
holder, and then replace the holder.
Notes:
• If the remote controller doesn’t work reliably, try
replacing the battery.
• If you intend not to use the remote controller for a long
time, remove the battery to prevent damage from
leakage or corrosion.
• Expired batteries should be removed as soon as
possible to prevent damage from leakage or corrosion.

About Your iPod/iPhone
iPod touch (1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th generation),
iPod classic, iPod nano (2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and
6th generation), iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G,
iPhone
Note:
• Before you begin using it, please update your iPod/
iPhone to the latest version. For details, refer to the
Apple website.
■About the Dock Adaptor
The ABX-N300’s dock uses the Universal Dock system.
By attaching an interchangeable part called a dock
adaptor, you’ll be able to insert your model of supported
iPod/iPhone.
• Use a commercially available dock adaptor or the one
that was included with your iPod/iPhone. If you insert
your iPod/iPhone into the ABX-N300 without the
appropriate dock adapter, excessive strain will be
applied to the connector, damaging the dock
connector or the dock connector port of your iPod/
iPhone.
• If your iPod is a compact and lightweight model, and
has no compatible adapter, you may connect it
directly.
■Removing the Dock Adaptor
As shown in the illustration below, insert a slotted
screwdriver or similar object into the slit of the dock
adaptor, and lift the adapter up.
• If you connect an iPod/iPhone to the ABX-N300
without attaching a dock adapter, you risk straining
and damaging the connector. Even if the dock adapter
is connected, you should avoid straining the connector
by moving or wiggling the connected iPod/iPhone.
• When inserting or removing your iPod/iPhone, take
care to insert or remove it in a straight line with the
angle of the connector, and do not use excessive force.
• Do not forcefully press the controls of your iPod/
iPhone while it is connected to the ABX-N300, or
wiggle your iPod/iPhone forward or backward. Doing
so will cause damage or faulty contacts in the
connector.
• Do not use the system in conjunction with other
accessories such as an FM transmitter or microphone.
Doing so may cause faulty operation.
• If your iPod/iPhone is in a case, it might not be able to
fully connect with the connector, causing failure to
sound or inability to operate the remote control.
Remove your iPod/iPhone from its case before
inserting it in the ABX-N300.
You can perform the following linked operations;
however some of these operations might not work
depending on your model of iPod/iPhone or the content
being played.
• Power on/off (standby) operation
When you switch the ABX-N300’s power on/
standby, your iPod/iPhone will be switched
accordingly.
• Timer operation
The ABX-N300’s timer will cause your iPod/
iPhone to perform timer playback.

Caution
• Don’t use connection cables that contain a built-in resistor.
• If you connect the earphone jack of another device to the ABX-N300, you must first adjust the volume of the
connected device.
Before you make connections
• This illustration is only one example. The connection method is the same even if you’re using other devices. Be sure

Basic Operation
To turn on the ABX-N300, press the [MON/
STANDBY] button on the ABX-N300 or remote
controller.
Press the [MON/STANDBY] button again to set the
ABX-N300 to Standby.
If an iPod/iPhone is connected to the ABX-N300, the
iPod/iPhone will be charged.
Press the [INPUT] button of the ABX-N300 or the
remote controller to switch the input.
You can choose from iRadio, Media Server, iPod/
iPhone, or LINE (the connected external device). Each
time you press the INPUT button, the input will cycle
through the following choices.
Press the VOLUME Up [F] button to increase the
volume or the VOLUME Down [H] button to decrease it.
You can also use the remote controller’s VOLUME [F]/
[H] buttons.
You can adjust the volume in the range of Min, 1–49,
Max.
To mute the ABX-N300, press the remote controller’s
[MUTING] button.
“Muting” appears on the display for a few seconds.
To unmute the ABX-N300, press the [MUTING] button again.
Tips:
While the ABX-N300 is muted:
•PresstheVOLUME[F]/[H] buttons on the
ABX-N300 or pressing the VOLUME [F]/[H] buttons
on the remote controller will unmute the ABX-N300.
• If you turn the ABX-N300 off, the next time you turn
it on, the ABX-N300 will be unmuted.
You can adjust the brightness of the downlight.
Press the remote controller’s [DIMMER] button.
Each time you press the button, the brightness will cycle
through the following settings.

display indicate “Tone Control.”
2Use the [

Playing Your iPod/iPhone
Notes:
• Before using your iPod/iPhone with the ABX-N300,
be sure to update your iPod/iPhone with the latest
software, available from the Apple website.
• If you leave your iPod/iPhone paused when using it on
its own, eventually it will go into hibernation. If you
insert it into the ABX-N300 dock in this state, you’ll
need to wait a few moments before your iPod/iPhone
is ready for use.
• Always remove your iPod/iPhone before moving the
ABX-N300.
• Depending on your iPod/iPhone, or the type of content
being played, some functions may not work as
expected.
1Move the slide cover to the left.
2Insert your iPod/iPhone into the
ABX-N300’s iPod/iPhone Dock.
Insert your iPod/iPhone securely into the ABX-
N300’s dock.
Notes:
• The appropriate model of dock adapter must be
installed in the ABX-N300’s iPod/iPhone dock (see
page 7).
• To prevent damage to the dock connector, do not twist
or force your iPod/iPhone into the dock, and be careful
not to wiggle your iPod/iPhone while inserting it.
• If you use a case with your iPod/iPhone, always
remove it before you insert it. Otherwise, it may not
connect properly and a malfunction may occur.
• Do not close the slider cover while an iPod/iPhone is
inserted. We recommend that you leave the slide cover
closed when not using the ABX-N300.
• Do not use with any iPod/iPhone accessories, such as
FM transmitters and microphones, as they may cause
a malfunction.
3Press the Play/Pause [U/I] button.
Playback starts.
Note:
• The volume level is adjusted by using the VOLUME
[H]/[F] buttons on the ABX-N300 or its remote
controller. Adjusting the volume on your iPod/iPhone
has no effect.
Pausing Playback
To pause playback, press the [U/I] button.
Press the button once again to resume playback from
where you paused.
You can also pause playback by pressing the [J] (stop)
button.
Selecting Songs (remote controller only)
To return to the beginning of the track that’s currently
playing or paused, press the Previous [Q] button.
Press the Previous [Q] button repeatedly to select
earlier songs.
Press the Next [R] button repeatedly to select
subsequent songs.
Fast Forward and Fast Reverse
(remote controller only)
To fast forward or fast reverse during playback or while
playback is paused, press and hold down the Next [R]
or Previous [Q] button, respectively.

During playlist playback, press the PLAYLIST [F]

Caution
If you’re unable to select a playlist, play back any
playlist on your iPod/iPhone, and then use the
PLAYLIST [F]/[H] buttons.
With random playback, the songs on the iPod/iPhone are
played in random order.
1Press the [SHUFFLE] button.
The %symbol will appear in the screen of the
iPod/iPhone.
2To start random playback, press the Play
[U/I] button.
Cancelling Random Playback
To cancel random playback, press the [SHUFFLE]
button.
The %symbol will disappear from the screen of the
iPod/iPhone.
If you press the [REPEAT] button, the song on the iPod/
iPhone will play repeatedly. The type of repeat playback
will change as follows each time you press the
[REPEAT] button.

Cancelling Repeat Playback
Press the [REPEAT] button several times until the <or
:symbol disappears from the screen of the iPod/
iPhone.
With this unit, you can enjoy the music of iOS-based
devices or iTunes music library using Apple Inc.’s
AirPlay.
Note:
To use AirPlay, you will need one of the following
equipments.
• iPad, iPhone, iPod touch with iOS 4.2 or greater.
• A personal computer with iTunes 10 (or greater)
installed.
Tip:
For optimal performance, we recommend you always
use the latest version of iOS and iTunes.
For details on AirPlay or how to obtain the latest version
for your software, please visit Apple web site.
AirPlay, the AirPlay logo, iPad, iPhone, iPod,
iPod classic, iPod nano, iPod shuffle, and iPod touch are

Follow the procedure below to play back.
1Use the ABX-N300’s [INPUT] button to
select “AirPlay”.
2Tap the [8] displayed on the screen of
iTunes or on your iPad/iPhone/iPod touch
device.
Select “ONKYO ABX-N300 ******(default
name)” from the list displayed.
3Select a song to play back.
Tips:
• During AirPlay, press DISPLAY to switch between
song informations.
• When iTunes or your iPad/iPhone/iPod touch device
is not detected (no connection via AirPlay), “No
Source” is displayed on the Tuner.
• For detailed information on iTunes, see the Help
section of iTunes.

Listening to Internet Radio
You can listen to radio broadcasts that are being distributed via the Internet. The ABX-N300 supports the following
Internet radio services.
• vTuner Internet radio with OEM branded portal
Caution
• In order to listen to Internet radio, the ABX-N300
must be connected to a network. For details on
connecting to a network, refer to “Network Settings”
(see page 27).
1Select “Internet Radio” as the input.
Use the ABX-N300’s INPUT button or the remote
controller’s INPUT [C]/[U] buttons to select
“Internet Radio.”
A list of Internet radio stations will be
automatically loaded from the vTuner radio station
database service.
2Use the [F]/[H] buttons to select “Location,”
and press the [ENTER] button.
3Use the [F]/[H] buttons to select “Asia,” and
press the [ENTER] button.
4Use the [F]/[H] buttons to select “Japan,”
and press the [ENTER] button.
5Use the [F]/[H] buttons to select the genre
that you want to hear, and press the
[ENTER] button.
If you don’t want to choose a genre, leave “All
Stations” selected and simply press the [ENTER]
button.
6Use the [F]/[H] buttons to select a station,
and press the [ENTER] button.
The ABX-N300 will automatically connect to the
station, data will be loaded, and playback will
begin.
If the station is not broadcasting, the broadcast
station that follows the selected station will
automatically be received.
Tip:
While selecting a station, you can press the [O]
button to return to the previous screen.

• Pause function cannot be used during playback.

Switching to the previous or next station
Press the remote controller’s [Q] or [R] button.
The [Q] button switches to the previous station, and
the [R] button switches to the next station.
You can store up to twenty favorite stations as presets.
1Receive the station that you want to store.
As described on page 18, receive the station that
you want to store.
2Press the MENU button.
The preset number will be displayed.
3Use the [F]/[H] buttons to select the preset
number in which you want to store the
station.
4Press the ENTER button.
5To store the station, press the ENTER
button.
If you decide to change the preset number in which
