Troubleshooting
Nothing happens when I press the power button on the remote:
•Make sure the power supply is properly connected, both to the wall outlet and to the Control Hub. If the LED
on the Control Hub flashed white when you connected the power supply for the first time the power to the
Control Hub is O .
•Make sure the batteries in the remote control is placed at the right polarity according to the marking on the
battery holder.
•Make sure the batteries in the remote control is fresh.
•Make sure the remote control protection film is removed.
•Make sure the remote control is properly assembled after batteries installed. The plastic alignment tab of the
housing should be fit into the alignment hole of the circuit board. The acrylic glass faceplate should be flush
with the plastic housing.
•
Lay the remote control on a table and don't touch it for 20 sek. This lets the touch buttons re-calibrate if for
some reason a button has been improperly calibrated.
•If the system has been unused for a longer time you will need to press and hold the power button for a longer
time (at lease 2 sek) to make it start. This is due to the remote controls built in low power sleep mode used to
extend its battery life.
•
If nothing of the above helps, please go through the Remote Control Pairing Guide available on
www.opalum.com/docs/pairing_guide.pdf.
The Control Hub is reacting to remote control commands, but the remote control is behaving strangely:
•Make sure the remote control protection film is removed.
•Make sure the batteries in the remote control is fresh.
•Strange behavior may happen if the remote controls touch buttons are improperly calibrated. Make sure the
remote control is properly assembled after batteries installed. The plastic alignment tab of the housing
should be fit into the alignment hole of the circuit board. The acrylic glass faceplate should be flush with the
plastic housing. Lay the remote control on a table and don't touch it for 20 sek. This lets the touch buttons re-
calibrate.
•Try using the remote control closer to the Control Hub. If this helps the distance might be too long.
•If the system has been unused for a longer time you will need to press and hold the button for a longer time
(at lease 2 sek). This is due to the remote controls built in low power sleep mode used to extend its battery
life.
The Control Hub status LED is lashing red:
This is due to a short circuit somewhere in the speaker chain.
•Look at all your speaker terminals, both on Control Hub and speakers. Make sure that both poles are not
touching each other. Also make sure that the metal housing of Flow series speakers or RCA connectors of
Control Hub is not touching any speaker cable.
•Make sure the speakers are connected according to the user guide.
•Turn the system off using the remote control and disconnect all speaker cables from the Control Hub. Turn
the system on using the remote control. If the Control Hub is still flashing red the short circuit is inside the
box. This is highly unlikely and in this case you may contact your Opalum dealer.
•Try connect only one speaker at a time. If only one of the speakers produces this error then a short circuit
may be inside that speaker. Please contact your Opalum dealer.

The Control Hub turns itsel o a ter a while:
To save power the Opalum system will automatically go into sleep mode and later on shut itself off. Sleep mode
is entered after 20 min without any input signal on the selected source. This is indicated by a slowly fading
Control Hub status LED. In sleep mode the power to the speakers is turned off. The system will wake up from
sleep mode if a button on the remote is pressed or audio is played on the selected source.
After two hours in sleep mode the system will shut itself down. The system now needs to be started by using the
remote control.
If the volume is set at full by this two hour shut down will take place. This mode is intended for installations
where the Opalum remote is not used since the volume is controlled by the source. Sleep mode will still be
active.
The Control Hub is on but there is no sound rom the speakers.
•At first, please make sure that the volume setting of the Opalum system is not too low. Also make sure the
volume of the source is raised. If you are using wireless streaming (optional) there may also be a volume
setting in the control point application/player you are using.
•
Volume problem may occur if the remote control is behaving strangely. Please see topic “The Control Hub is
reacting to remote control commands, but the remote control is behaving strangely”.
•Try using the analog RCA input with a known good source if you are experiencing this problem when using
digital sources.
•For digital sources: Make sure the digital S/PDIF format is PCM at 44.1 or 48kHz sample rate. Surround sound
formats such as DTS, Dolby Digital etc. are not supported.
•If this problem occurs when using the coaxial digital input, try using an optical input if your source also has an
optical output (and vice versa).
The sound is not as good as in the store...
We shall always remember that “good” sound is subjective, but here are some tips for a successful setup. To get
the maximum out of your Opalum system please use suitable audio sources. Best performance will be achieved
when using the digital inputs or wireless streaming. Please note that there are differences also among digital
sources, a cheap digital output (for example on a laptop) may not be as good sounding as a studio sound card or
a good CD player. This is especially due when advanced algorithms such as sample rate conversion are engaged.
If you are using lossy compressed audio files (mp3, wma, aac etc.) make sure that the compression is set at a
high bit rate. Please note that online audio sources such as internet radios, streaming videos and services as
Spotify (free version) uses lossy compression not always at top quality.
The geometry of your room will also impact the perceived audio performance. Generally moving the speakers
closer to a wall gives you more bass. If possible, try moving the speakers into different positions to get a feeling
for how the room impacts the sound. Not only the room geometry is of importance but also the room fitting. A
naked room with hard concrete/marble floor/walls will sound harsh while decorated the sound will be much
softer. When wall mounting the speakers the hardness of the wall will also impact the sound.

WLAN Troubleshooting, Tips and Tricks
For problems concerning third party DLNA UPnP software and devices please refer to the respective creators
documentation.
I cannot enter the wlan con iguration mode (make the Control Hub lash white)..
To enter this mode the DC power to the Control Hub must be disconnected at least three minutes.
When con iguring by USB the Control Hub never automatically turns o , what can I do?
This will happen if the Control Hub doesn't find any configuration file on the USB stick memory or if the file is
damaged. Please make sure that the OpalumWirelessConfig exe-file is placed on, and run from, the root of the
USB drive. Also make sure you are not using a encrypted or password protected USB drive.
How can I veri y that my Opalum system has connected to my network?
As soon as you start your Opalum system it connects to the specified wireless network. Change to green source
and you will see the status led on the control hub flash. When the led stops flashing green it has successfully
connected. To verify the connection in Windows 7 click the Windows button and type network in the search
field. Click Network. You can also open this view from Windows Explorer.
I cannot see my Opalum system in the Windows network view, what might be wrong?
To be use your Opalum system in Windows you need to turn on media streaming. Click the Windows button and
type Network and sharing center in the search field. In network and sharing center click Change
advanced sharing setting. Under the title Media streaming you can see if media streaming is turned off. In case it
it click Choose media streaming options, then click the button Turn on media streaming.

Can I change the network name o my Opalum system without re-con iguring it?
Yes, right-click your Opalum device in the Windows network view and select View device homepage. Here you
can set the new name.
There seems to be a problem connecting the Control Hub to the wireless network.
•Turn to green source and check the Control Hub status LED. When the LED is flashing softly green it is trying
to connect to the wireless network. If it stops flashing and shines steadily green the connection succeeded.
If the LED starts to flash hard (on, off, on, off...) and faster the connection did not succeed. It will then try
connecting again. If this happens there is some problem with the network configuration. Please make sure
the configuration is done according to the “Wireless setup guide” available on www.opalum.com.
I can see my Opalum system on the network but I cannot play any song.
If the Opalum system can be seen as a media renderer in Windows network view or in your control point
app/program the Opalum system is most likely fine. The problem might be caused by settings/permissions in the
media server or the control point application. Problems may also be due to settings in your network router.
Make sure UPnP support is activated in the router and that no network restrictions applies for the Opalum
system, control point device or media server device.
I can play a song but there is no sound in the speakers.
•
Make sure that there is sound in the speakers if using a wired source. See topic “The Control Hub is on but
there is no sound from the speakers.”
•In the control point application you are using there might be a volume control setting. Make sure this one is
turned up.
The wireless connection by push-button was once working, then I connected my Opalum system to another
network, now when I moved it back the push-button con iguration does not succeed.
This is a problem we have seen in testing using the Cisco E4200 network router. (It might also apply to other
routers). This problem has nothing to do with the Opalum system but all push-button connected devices. There
is a workaround. To re-connect a device that has once been connected you will need to:
•
Set the wireless network security setting to a different encryption method, connect the Opalum system by
push-button (see wireless setup guide on www.opalum.com), change the encryption method back again and
then connect the Opalum system once again by push-button.
•The problem will also be solved if you factory reset the router and then connect the Opalum system by push-
button.
