Always ensure that the machine is disconnected from the mains at the power soc et
before opening the housing for cleaning and maintenance wor .

The gears and the drive chain must be cleaned and greased monthly.
Proceed as follows:
1. Remove the four Allen screws that secure the hood.
2. Fold the hood bac on its hinge.
3. Remove the left side cover of the housing
(7mm soc et spanner required).
4. Use a vacuum cleaner to remove loose dust and dirt. Clean the
chain and gears with compressed air, using appropriate eye and
hand protection.
5. Apply fresh grease to the gears and the drive chain, using a brush
or grease gun.
6. Spray light oil on the bearing plates and cutting blades at the ends
of the cutting mechanism, where the cutter shaft is held by the bearing.
7. Replace the side cover and hood, ensuring that they are both
properly secured.
Repairs must only be carried out by a specialist.

> All safety elements are designed for safe operation by one person, so
the machine must not be operated by more than one person at a time.
> Distances between the feed opening, the emergency-off switch etc. are designed
for safe operation by adults. Children must be ept away from the machine if it is
connected to a power supply.
> Before using this machine, tie bac long hair and remove nec ties, jewellery,
scarves or other loose items that may present a ris .
> Do not insert fingers into the feed aperture when the machine is running.
> In the event of an emergency, switch off the machine at the main switch or
emergency stop button and disconnect immediately from the mains power supply
> Always ensure that the machine is disconnected from the mains at the power
soc et before opening the housing for cleaning and maintenance wor .
> Repairs must only be carried out by a specialist.
> All Ecopax Shredders are manufactured to exceed the safety requirements outlined
in BS EN ISO 13857:2008 ‘Safety of machinery - Safety distances to prevent hazard
zones being reached by upper and lower limbs’.
This British Standard is the UK implementation of EN ISO 13857:2008 and states
that an opening to the blades of 20mm height must have a minimum safety
distance from the blades to the opening of 120mm.
In line with our policy of providing premium quality equipment, Optimax shredders
are now manufactured with a safety distance of 140mm.

Connection to a 380/400V 50Hz three phase supply is required for operation of the
CP422S24MM-3PH. The CP422S24MM-3PH is supplied with a 2 metre power lead with a
16A Ce on connector, which uses slow blow 16A replacement fuses.

> This machine is suitable for processing paper materials exceeding
60gsm and corrugated cardboard up to 15mm thic .
> Use of unsuitable materials may result in operator injury, damage to
the machine and accelerated wear or damage of the cutting blades.
> If processing waste pac aging material, always ensure that no hard
objects are concealed in folds or carton flaps.
> If processing cartons containing staples, where possible feed the
cartons through the machine so that the stapled areas fall outside
the feed path and discard these sections.
> Individual staples cannot cause damage to the cutting mechanism, but
ris damage to pac aged contents or injury if left in pac aging material.
Safety
Operating Instructions should be readily available and must be complied with at all times.
Care must be ta en to prevent long hair, loose clothing and jewellery from becoming
caught in the mechanism.
Defects and malfunctions which endanger the safety of the employees must be repaired and the
machine must be put out of operation until these hazards have been eliminated.
Mai te a ce a d service
The machine must be thoroughly chec ed at least once a year by an authorised person.
All safety features must be chec ed every 2-3 months to confirm they have not been
removed or disabled and to identify signs of wear or malfunction.
The cutting mechanism must be regularly chec ed and ept clean (see instructions on
page 3 of this manual).
The cutting rollers must be lubricated periodically, by spraying light oil such as WD40 onto
them through the feed inlet (7) whilst the machine is running.
Operatio
Connect to power supply. Release emergency stop button (9) by rotating it anticloc wise.
When the green light shows (8) the machine is operational. Press the green button (5) to
commence operation.
Feed cardboard material into the feed aperture (1) until the mechanism grips it. Large
pieces of cardboard may require additional support, but hands must be ept well clear of
the feed aperture at all times.
If the thic ness of cardboard fed into the machine is too thic and it jams, press the
emergency stop button to stop the machine, then the reverse button (3) to remove the
cardboard from the machine.
An automatic safety device will activate if a bloc age is not detected by the operator, and
will switch off the machine for 2-3 minutes before resetting. The bloc age should be
removed using the reverse button as above before resuming operation.
Paddi g flap
The flap attached at the rear of the machine converts the processed cardboard into high-bul
void fill.
If separate strips are required, disconnect the two springs situated either side of the flap (10).
Cautio – ensure that processed cardboard can freely exit the outlet channel at all times.
