Warning: Disconnect all external cables (video, power
and serial cable) from AllSky unit before proceeding.
Step 1 - Removal of Dome Bubble
ToremoveDomeBubbleusetheAllSkyTamper-ProofAllen
keytounscrewthefourvandal-proofscrewsonthetopofthe
StarShootAllSkyCamera(SASC).
Becarefulnottohittheacrylicdomewiththeallenkey,screws
orotherhardobjects.Alsobecarefulnottolosethenonstan-
dardTamper-proofallenkey.
Carefullyliftthedomecoverdirectlyupwardsfromthebase
andplaceinasafelocation.Becarefulnottotouchthelens
toavoidhavingtocleanit.(Cleaningsuppliessoldseparately
byOrion.)

Step 2 – Removal of the RS-232 Circuit Board
IfmodelisAllSkyVersionI(nocomputercontrol)proceedto

removethetwoscrewsandwashersholdingthesmallcircuit
boardinplace(Figure 2).

Step 3 – Removal of the Camera Bracket
from Base
UsingaPhilipsheadscrewdriverunscrewthefourscrewsthat
attachthecamerabrackettothebaseunitinordertogain
accesstotheheatercomponent(Figure 3).

Step 4 – Replacing the Heater Component

Firmlyholdthewhiteconnectorattachedtothelargercircuit
boardwithonehandwhileusingtheotherhandtopullthe
plugoutinordertopreventthewhiteconnectorfrombecom-
ingdetachedfromthelargercircuitboardwhenpullingoutthe
heatercable(Figure 4).

Remove the two screws holding the heater component in
place(Figure 5)andattachreplacementheatercomponent
usingsamescrewsandthenplugheatercableintowhitecon-
nectoroncircuitboard(Figure 4).
NOTE: The replacement heater holes may need to be
cleared using a screwdriver to remove any material from
holes.
Step 5 – Re-Installation of Camera Bracket
to Base
Usethe4screwstore-attachcamerabracketbackontobase
(Figure 3).
WARNING: Since the heater becomes hot to the touch
in cold climates, care must be taken to ensure that the
internal wires do not come into contact with the heater
to avoid accidental melting and damage to internal
wires. Wires should be held down with the original cable
fastener (Figure 6) and the lens cable wrapped around
the camera to keep it away from the heater.

Step 6 – Re-Installation of the RS-232
Circuit Board
For AllSky II units check that the thicker camera cable is
wrappedbehindthelargercircuitboardandnotfreetomove
nearheater.Aftercheckingthatallwireshavebeensecured
away from the heater the small circuit board can now be
reattachedusingthetwosmallwashersandscrews(Figure 2).
Step 7 – Re-Installation of the Dome Bubble
Carefullylineupthegrooveontheinsideofthedomecover
withthenotchonthebaseandgentlyallowthecovertodrop
intoplace.Thedomecovershouldnowbeseatedevenlyand
allfourscrewslinedupreadyforinstallation.
Usingtheallenkey,gentlytighteneachscrewuntilasmallbit
ofresistanceisfelt,thenmoveontothenextscrew.Repeatfor
allscrews.Nexttighteneachscrewmorefirmlyandevenlyto
helpensureaweatherproofseal.
Please use the replacement DC and RCA cable to avoid
issues when heater turns on in cold conditions.
