Orion®25x30
Brass Hand
Telescope
#52426
Congratulations on your pur-
chase of the Orion 25x30
Brass Hand Telescope.
This beautiful yet powerful
telescope will bring distant subjects up close and is compact
enough when collapsed to go where ever you go.
Focusing
The only moving part on this telescope is an important one –
the focusing mechanism.
To adjust focus, first make sure the telescope is fully extended.
Then look through the scope at an object in the distance and
rotate the eyepiece clockwise or counter-clockwise until the
image becomes sharp (see Figure 1). Actually the entire first
section of the telescope rotates and moves inward or outward
relative to the second section. Done!
Note that you may have to
adjust the focus slightly when
viewing a subject closer or
farther away from your original
subject.
Keep the telescope in its zip-
pered carrying case when
not in use to keep the optics
clean.
Cleaning the Lenses
A little dust on the lenses will not affect the view through the
telescope. However, if the lenses get significantly dirty, you may
need to clean them.
Do not use cleaning fluid or tissues normally associated with
eyeglasses. These materials tend to cause “sleeking”, or micro-
scopic scratching of the antireflection coatings and surfaces. Do
not use isopropyl or “rubbing” alcohol. It contains oil harmful to
optics.
1. First, use a soft-bristle brush or a blower bulb to remove
loose dust or dirt particles.

to focus
2. Then moisten a folded piece of lens tissue with a few drops
of lens cleaning fluid, and very gently, using a circular
motion, wipe a small area of the optical surface.
3. Use a dry sheet of tissue to gently dry off and polish
the area you just moistened. Repeating steps 2 and 3
on a small area at a time insures that your optics will be
smudge-free. Continue until you have cleaned the entire
surface.
WARNING: Never look directly at the Sun with the naked eye or with
a telescope – unless you have a proper solar filter installed over the
front of the telescope! Otherwise, permanent, irreversible eye damage
may result.
