“EB” on the packaging indicates the United King dom.
Operations in th ese instructions are des cribed
mainly using the re mote control, but you can per form
the operations on the main unit if the controls are
the same.
Your unit may not look exactly the same as illustrated.

Battery
• Do not break o pen or short-circuit the battery.

Preparing the remote control

Use alkaline or manganese bat teries.
Insert s o the poles (+ and –) match those in the remote
control.
Aim at the remote control signal s ensor.
Distance: With in approximately 7 m
Angle: A pproximately 20° up and down, 30° left and right
Placement of speakers
Speakers are designed identically s o that no lef t or right
channel orientation is necessary.
You cannot take the front net of f the speakers.
Use only th e supplied speakers
Using other speakers can damag e the unit and sound
quality will be negatively af fected.
• Keep your speakers at least 10 mm away from the
system for proper ventilation.
• These speakers do not have magnetic shield ing. Do
not put them near TVs, PCs or other equipment eas ily
influenced by magnetism.
• You can damage your speakers and shorten their
useful life i f you play sound at high levels over
extende d period s.
• Reduce the volume in the following cases to avoid
damage.
– When playing distorted s ound.
– When adjusting the sound quality.
Caution
• Use the sp eakers only with the recommende d
system. Failure to do so can damage the
amplifier and speakers, and can cause fire.
Consult a qualifie d servi ce person if damage
occurs or if a sudden change in performance is
apparent.
• Do not attach these speakers to walls or
ceilings.

Caution for AC mains lead
For the Unite d Kingdom
For your safety, please read the following text carefully.
This appliance is supplie d with a moulded three pin
mains plug for your safety and convenience.
A 5-ampere fuse is fitted in this plug.
Should the fuse need to be replaced please ensure that
the replacement fu se has a rating of 5-ampere and that it
is approved by ASTA or BSI to BS1362.
Check for the ASTA mark or the BSI mark on the
body of the fuse.
If the plug contains a removable fu se cover you must
ensure that it is refitted when the fuse is rep laced.
If you lose the fuse cover the plug must not be used until
a replacement cover is obtaine d.
A replace ment fuse c over can be purchased from your
local dealer.
Before use
Remove the connector cover.
How to replace the fuse
The location of the fuse differ according to the t ype of AC
mains plug (figures A and B). C onfirm the AC mains plug
fitted and follow the instructions below.
Illustrations may di ffer from actual AC mains plug.
1. Open the fuse cover with a screwdriver.

Making the connections
Connect the AC mains lead only after all the other connections have been made.
1 Connec t the AM loop antenn a.
Stand the antenna up on its base until it clicks.
2 Connec t the FM indoor ante nna.
Place the antenna where reception is best.
If the radio reception is poor, use an optional
outdoor antenna. Disconnect the FM indoor
antenna.

Conserving power
The system consumes approximately 0.3 W
when it is in standby mode. Disc onnect the
power supp ly if you do not u se the system.
Some settings will be lost after you disc onnect
the system. You have to set them again.

Discs
Basic play
1 Press [x, OPEN /CLO SE] on the main unit to
open the tray.
The unit turns on, load a disc with t he label facing up.
Press [x, OPEN/ CLOSE] again to close the tray.
2 Press [4/9, CD] to start play.
Stop
playback
Press [8].
Pause play Press [ 4/9, CD]. Press again to resume
play.
Skip tracks Press [ 2/3] or [5/6].
Search
through
tracks
Press and hold [2/3] or [5/6]
during play or pause.

Checking the track information
You can view the information of the curre nt track from the
display panel.
Press [DISPL AY] during play or pause.
• This unit suppor ts ver. 1.0 and 1.1 ID3 tags.
• Text data that is not suppor ted will not be displ ayed.
NOTE about using a Du alDisc
The digital audio c ontent side of a DualDisc does n ot
meet the technica l specifications of the Com pact Dis c
Digital Audio (CD-DA) format so playback may not be
possible.
NOTE on CD s
• This unit c an access up to 99 tracks.
• This unit c an play MP3 files and CD -DA format audio
CD-R /RW that have been finalised.
• It may not be able to play some CD-R /RW du e to the
condition of the re cordin g.
NOTE on MP3s
• Files are treated as tracks and folders are treated as
albums.
• This unit c an access up to 999 tracks, 255 albums and
20 sessions.
• Disc must conform to ISO9660 level 1 or 2 (except for
extende d formats).
• To play in a certain order, prefix the folder and file
names with 3-digit numbers in the order you want them
to play.
Limitations on MP3 play
• If you have recorded MP3s on the same disc as
CD-DA, o nly the format recor ded in the first session
can be playe d.
• Some MP3s may not be played due to the condition of
the disc or recording.
• Recordings will not neces sarily be played in the order
you recorded them.
FM/AM radio
Manual tuning
1 Press [ FM/ AM] to s elect “ FM” or “AM”.
2 Press [TUNE MO DE] to select “M ANUAL”.
3 Press [2/3] or [5/6] to select the
freque ncy of the r equire d statio n.
To tune automatically
Press and hold [2/3] or [5/6] until the
frequency starts changing rapid ly.
• Auto tuning may be interru pted when there is exces sive
interference.
• To cancel auto tuning, press [2/3] or [ 5/6]
once again.
To improve the sound quality
When “FM” is selected
Press [ FM MODE ] to display “MONO”.
Press again to cancel.
• “MONO” is also cancelled if the frequency is changed.
• Turn off “MON O” for normal listening.
When “AM” is selected
Press and hold [TUNE MODE].
Each time you press and h old the button: BP 2 BP 1
RDS broadcasting

radio data system (RDS) available in some areas.

USB
The USB connectivity ena bles you to connect and play
MP3 tracks from USB mass storage d evice.
Preparation
Before connecting any USB mass storage device to the
unit, ensure that the d ata stored therein has been backed
up.
Do not use a USB extension cable. The USB mass
storage device con nected via the cable will not be
recognised by this unit.
1 Reduce the volume and connect the USB mass
storage device to the USB por t.
Hold the main unit when connecting or disconnecting
the USB mas s storage device.
2 Press [4/9, USB] to st art play.
Stop
playback
Press [8] . “RESU ME” is displayed.
The position is memorised.
Press [4/9, USB] to resume play.
Press [8] again to clear the position.
For other operations, they are similar as those
described in “Discs”.
Compatible devices
Devices which are defined as USB mass storage class:
• USB devices that support bulk only transfer.
• USB devices that support USB 2.0 full spe ed.
Supported formats
• Track must have the ex tension “.mp3” or “.MP3”.
• CBI (Control/Bulk /Interrupt) is not supp orted.
• A device using NTFS file system is not supported.
[Only FAT 12/16/32 (File Allocation Table 12/16/3 2) file
system is supporte d.]
• Depending on the se ctor size, some files may not work.
• Maximum album: 255 albums
• Maximum track: 2500 trac ks
• Maximum track in one album : 999 trac ks
Clock and timers
Setting the clock
This is a 24- hour clo ck.
1 Press [CLOCK /TIMER] to select “CLOCK”.
2 Within 10 seconds, press [R/T] to set the time.
3 Press [OK] .
• Press [CLOCK/ TIMER] to display the clock for few
seconds.
• Reset the c lock regularly to maintain accuracy.
Using the sleep timer
This func tion enables you to tur n off the unit
automatically af ter the set time.
Press [SLEEP] to select your desired time (in minutes).

Press [SLEEP] to show the remaining time and press
[SLEEP] again to selec t your desired time.
• The play and sleep tim er can be used togeth er.
• The sleep timer always has priority. Make sure not to
overlap timer settings.
Using the play timer
You can set the timer to come on at a c ertain time to
wake you up
.
Turn the unit on and set the clock.
Prepare the music source you want to listen to; disc,
radio, USB or music por t sourc e and set the vo lume.
1 Press [CLOCK /TIMER] to select “#PL AY 1”,
“#PLAY 2” or “#PL AY 3”.
2 Within 10 seconds, press [R/T] to set the
starting time.
3 Press [OK] .
4 Repeat steps 2 and 3 to set the finishing time.
To activate the timer
5 Press [#, PLAY] to turn on “#PL AY 1”,
“#PLAY 2” or “#PL AY 3”.
“#” is shown.
6 Press [ `] to turn off the unit .

“HEAVY ”, “SOFT”, “CLE AR”, “VOCAL”
or “FLAT”.

adjust the level (– 4 to +4).

“ON SURROUND” or

If interference in FM stereo reception
increas es, cancel the surround soun d

Re-master Press [RE-MASTER ] to select
“ON RE-MASTER” or
“OFF RE-MASTER”.
Optional equipments
Avoid interfering with other Panasonic
equipment
Other Panasonic audio or video equipment may start
functioning when you operate the unit using the supplied
remote control.
To solely operate this system, synchronise the main
unit with its corresponding remote control to op erate in
“REMOTE 2 ” mode.
1 Press and hold [M USIC P.] on the main unit and
[2] until “REMOTE 2” is displayed.
2 Press and hold [OK] and [2] for at least 2 seconds.
To change the mode back to “REMOTE 1”, repeat ste ps 1
and 2 by replacing [2 ] with [1].
Portable audio equipment
Turn off the equalizer function (if there is any) of the
portable audio e quipment before you plug into the
MUSIC P. jack. Other wise, sound from the speaker may
be distorted.
1 Plug the audio cord into the MUS IC P. jack.
2 Press [ MUSIC PORT] (main uni t: [MUSIC P.]) a nd
play the portabl e audio equipment .
To adjust the sound input level
Press [ INPUT LEVEL] to sele ct “HIGH” or “NORMAL”.
• Select “ NORMAL” if the sound is distorted during
“HIGH ” input level.
• Cords and the equipment are not included.
• For details, refer to the portable audio equipment ’s
instruction manual.
Troubleshooting guide
Before requesting service, make the following checks.
If you are in doubt about some of the ch eck points, or if
the solut ions indicated do not solve the problem, consult
your dealer for instructions.
■Common problems
No response when remote control buttons are
pressed.
• Check that the batteries are installed correctly.
Distorted sound or no sound.
• Turn the volume up.
• Turn off the unit, determine and correct the cause.
Turn the unit on again. It may be caused by straining of
the speakers throug h excessive volume or power, and
using the unit in a hot env ironment.
A “humming” sound can be heard during play.
• An AC mains lead or fluores cent light is near the unit.
Keep other applianc es and cor ds away from the unit.
■Discs
Incorrect display or play will not start.
• You have not inserted the disc correctly; insert it
correctly.
• Disc may be dirty. Wipe it clean.
• Replace the disc if i t is scratc hed, warped, or non-
standard.
• Condensation has formed : wait 1 to 2 hours for it to
evaporate.
■Radio
A beat sound is heard.
• Turn off any television nearby or move the unit away
from any television.
• Switch to either BP 1 or BP 2 when in AM tuner mode.
A low hum is heard during AM broadcast.
• Separate the antenna from other cables and cords.
■USB
No respons e when [ 4/9 , USB] is pre ssed.
• Disconnect the USB device and then reconnec t it.
Alternatively, turn the unit off and on again.
The USB drive or its contents cannot be read.
• The USB dri ve format or it s contents is/are not
compatible with the system.
• The USB host function of this product may not work
with some USB devices.
• USB devices with storage capacity of more than
8 gigabytes may not work in some instances.
Slow operation of the USB device.
• Large file size or high memory US B flash drive takes
longer time to read.
■Unit displays
“NO PLAY”
• Examine the content. You can only play suppor ted
format.
• If there are more than 255 albums or fo lders (audio and
non-audio), some of the MP3 files in these albums may
not be read and played. Transfer these musi c albums
to another USB. Alternatively, reform at the USB device
and save these music albums prior to saving the other
non-audio folders.
Connecting to headphones
Connec t headphones (not included) to the headphones
jack.
Plug type: Ø 3.5 mm stereo
• Avoid listen ing for prolonged periods of time to prevent
hearing damage.
• Excessive sound pressure from earphones and
headpho nes can cause hearing loss.
• Listenin g at full volum e for long periods may damage
the user’s ears.
“F61” or “F76”
• Check and correct the speaker cords connection. If this
does not fix the problem, consult the dealer.
• Disconnect the USB device. Turn the unit off and on
again.
“ERROR”
• Incorre ct operation per formed. Read the instructi ons
and try ag ain.
“ADJ UST CLOCK”
• Clock is n ot set. Adjust the clock accordingly.
“ADJ UST TIM ER”
• Play timer is not set. Adjust the play timer accordingly.
“AUTO O FF ”
• The unit has been lef t unused for about 29 mi nutes and
will turn of f in a minute. Press any but ton to can cel.
Memor y reset ( Initialisation)
When the following situations occur, refer to the
instructions below to reset the memor y:
• There is no response when buttons are pressed.
• You want to clear and reset the memory co ntents.
To reset memory
1) Disc onnect the AC mains lead. (Wait at least
3 minutes b efore pr oceed ing to step 2 .)
2) While pressing and holding d own [1] on the
main unit , reconnect the AC mains lea d.
Continue to press and hold the button
(approximately 10 seconds) until “– – – – – – – –”
is shown.
3) Release [1].
All the set tings are returned to the factory preset.
You will need to reset the memory items.
Memory preset
30 FM and 15 AM stations can be preset.
Automatic presetting
1 Press [ PLAY MODE] to select “CURRENT” or
“LOWEST” frequency.
2 Press [AUTO PRESET ] to star t presetting .
Manual presetting
1 Press [TUNE MO DE] to select “M ANUAL”.
2 Press [2/3] or [5/6] to tune to the
required station.
3 Press [PROGRAM] .
4 Press th e numeric buttons to select a channel.
The station occupying a channel is erased if another
station is preset to th at channel.
5 Repeat steps 2 to 4 to preset more stations.
Selecting a preset station
1 Press [TUNE MO DE] to select “PRESET”.
2 Press [2/3] or [5/6] to select the
channel.
Alternatively, press the numeric buttons to select the
channel.
AM allocation setting (by main unit onl y)
This system can also re ceive AM broadcasts allocated in
10 kHz steps.
Press and hold [FM/AM] .
After a few seconds the display changes to a flashing
display of t he current minimum frequency. Release the
button when the minimum frequency changes.
• To return to the original step, repeat the above steps.
• After changing the setting, previously preset frequency
will be cleared.

Q [AUTO OFF]
This func tion allows you to turn th e unit
off (except in radio mode) after the unit
is left unused for about 30 minutes.
“AUTO OFF” is activated as the factory
preset.
To cancel, press the button again.
