3. Overview of ADX-31-U
ADX-31-U is an audio amplifier for Panphonics electrostatic speakers with USB for digital audio
input. It is designed to connect Panphonics Passive Sound Shower and Compact speakers
to simple audio systems with a direct connection to audio source. ADX-31-U can also be used in
larger and more complex audio installations.
ADX-31-U features:
•USB-input for digital audio,
•AUX input for unbalanced analog audio signals,
•an isolated XLR-input for balanced analog audio signals,
•user-selectable power-up behavior, and
•two preset EQ- filters.
One ADX-31-U unit can operate up to:
•3 units of 60X60 Panphonics speakers,
•9 units of 60X20 Panphonics speakers,
•4 units of 120X20 Panphonics speakers,
•or any combination of the above, as long as the total surface area is not more
than 3 units of 60X60 Panphonics speakers.
By the digital USB audio connection, it is easy to design and build simple audio systems without
interference. Analog inputs serve installations where digital audio is not used.
The user can select the state of the amplifier after start-up or a power failure with the selectable
power-up feature. For the three different modes of power-up for the amplifier and how to select
them, see Chapter5.2.1 Power-up behavior, page 12.
The amplifier also has a user-selectable EQ-filter. The EQ-filter features presets for Presence
and Warm sound. EQ-filters make it easier to adapt Panphonics speakers to different usage
situations:
•The Presence setting is a flat amplifier output with clear and crisp rising panel response.
For example, it can be used in a noisy environment where the sound from the speaker
needs to be heard clearly over long distance.
•The Warm setting is an equalized amplifier output with a warmer sound to compensate
for the rising panel response. For example, it can be used to create a private zone for
more enjoyable listening experience.
For instructions on how to select the EQ-filter, see Chapter 5.2.2 EQ-filter, page 12.
