BD ’s LED WHAT IS IT TELLING YOU?
LED flashes red and blue alternately BD 1 is in pairing mode
Blue LED flashes once every 2 seconds BD 1 is in standby mode and not connected
Blue LED flashes twice every seconds BD 1 is synched with the Bluetooth-
enabled device
Red LED flashes once every 20 seconds BD 1 is at low power
and BD 1 emits audible tones

Power OFF: Press and hold power the power button for 3 to seconds
ABOUT THE BD 1
The Paradigm SHIFT BD 1 is a universal Bluetooth receiver that lets you stream music from any
Bluetooth-enabled device supporting an Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP) or Audio/Video
Remote Control Profile (AVRCP). This includes the iPhone, Android and Blackberry phones and other
Bluetooth-enabled devices such as laptops and tablet PCs.
Customers outside of North America
For our international customers the unit comes with a USB cable that plugs into a USB AC power
converter (not included).
NOTE: The international version of this unit is designated BD 1E, however for information
purposes in this manual it will be referred to as BD 1.
RECHARGING THE BD 1's INTERNAL BATTERY
See "GETTING STARTED" section.
GETTING STARTED: (North American customers)
1. Plug the power supply into an AC outlet like the one on the back of the A2 speaker (see
diagram). Plug the other end into the jack marked ‘input’ on the BD 1 receiver
2. The BD 1’s red LED will come on, this tells you the unit is charging. A full charge takes
approximately 2. hours. When the unit is charged, the red LED will go out.
3. The BD 1 can operate from the AC power and can remain plugged in. If desired, unplug and
remove the AC power supply and operate the BD 1 off battery power.
4. Plug the BD 1’s 3. -mm cable into the 3. -mm jack on your device (see diagram of the A2’s
stereo input below as an example).
GETTING STARTED: (Customers outside of North America only)
IMPORTANT: In order to connect your Bluetooth device to the BD 1E, you will need to
urchase a USB AC ower converter (sold se arately) from your dealer.
1. Connect the supplied USB cable into a USB AC power converter (sold separately)
2. Plug the power supply into a power outlet. Plug the other end into the jack marked ‘input’ on the
BD 1E receiver.
3. The BD 1E’s red LED will come on, this tells you the unit is charging. A full charge takes
approximately 2. hours. When the unit is charged, the red LED will go out.
4. The BD 1E can operate from the AC power and can remain plugged in. If desired, unplug and
remove the AC power supply and operate the BD 1E off battery power.
. Plug the BD 1E’s 3. mm cable into the 3. mm jack on your device (see diagram of the A2’s
stereo input below as an example).
SYNCHING THE BD 1 WITH A BLUETOOTH-ENABLED SMART PHONE (All customers)
1. Turn off the BD 1
2. Place your Bluetooth-enabled mobile phone about 1 meter (approximately 3 feet) away from the BD 1
(once synching is complete maximum distance to maintain connection is approximately 10m/30ft)
3. Press and hold down the BD 1’s power button for about 6 seconds until its LED alternates between
Red and Blue
4. Activate your mobile phone’s Bluetooth settings (located under ‘Phone Settings’ or ‘Settings’ ) and let
the phone search for Bluetooth devices within range. Once it has found all devices select “SHIFT BD 1”
from the list
. If prompted for a password or PIN Number enter: “0000”
6. If prompted by your phone to connect, select: “Yes” or “Connect”
7. Once a connection has been established the BD 1’s Blue LED will flash twice every five seconds.
NOTE: The LED will continue to flash until the BD 1 and the connected device are no longer connected
or out of synch distance from each other
GENERAL OPERATION
• If no devices are sensed, the BD 1 will automatically turn off within five minutes
• After successful synching, the BD 1 and smart phone will remember each other and you will not have
to resynch again. If for some reason you do have to resynch, simply follow Steps 1 through 7 above.
• Each time the BD 1 is turned on it will automatically try to connect to the last device to which it was
connected. If you want to synch it with a new Bluetooth device, go to ‘Settings’ or ‘Phone Settings’ on
your phone and turn off the Bluetooth function of the last connected device and synch with the new
device following Steps 1 through 7 above.
• If the BD 1 is turned on but will not synch to the new device, press the power button twice and
synching should occur. If not, refer to the "Troubleshooting" section
• When the receiver and the Bluetooth-enabled device are out of range of each other they will be
automatically disconnected. They will automatically reconnect once they are again within range.
CARE AND MAINTENANCE
In order for you to get the best from your BD 1, read the following recommendations:
• Do not expose the receiver to liquid, moisture or humidity as this will damage the product’s internal circuit
and such damage is not covered under warranty
• Clean only with soft cloth. Do not use household cleaners or solvents of any kind.
• Do not expose the receiver to extremely high or low temperature as this will shorten the battery life.
• Do not dispose of the BD 1 in an incinerator or fire as this will result in a dangerous explosion.
Recycle the product according to the recycling directions at the beginning of this manual and
according to your local laws and bylaws
• If the BD 1 will not be used for an extended period of time place it in a clean, dry place free from
high temperatures, humidity, moisture and dust
TROUBLESHOOTING
The BD won’t turn on
• Make sure the battery is charged or that the unit is connected to the AC adapter and plugged into
an un-switched, powered AC outlet. If the unit will not turn on with the AC adapter connected and
powered, unplug the unit from wall socket for a few seconds then reconnect the AC power to reset
the unit’s internal circuitry.
The BD won’t turn off
• Make sure the battery is charged or the unit is connected to the AC adapter and plugged into an
un-switched, powered AC outlet. If the unit will not turn on with the AC adapter connected and
powered, unplug the unit from wall socket for a few seconds, then reconnect the AC power to
reset the unit’s internal circuitry.
The BD won’t connect to the device
• Make sure the Bluetooth-enabled device is no more than 1 meter (3 feet) away from the BD 1 when
performing the synching operation.
• Recheck to ensure the device is:
a) Bluetooth-enabled and
b) Supports Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP) or Audio/Video Remote Control Profile (AVRCP)
• Make sure your phone’s Bluetooth settings are enabled and that “SHIFT BD 1” is selected
• Repeat steps 1 through 7 listed at the top of this page.
NOTE: If synching still fails after all of the above troubleshooting attempts have been tried please refer
to the Owners Manual for your Bluetooth-enabled device for additional information and/or solutions.

SYNCHING THE BD 1 WITH A BLUETOOTH-ENABLED LAPTOP PC OR TABLET (All customers)
If using the BD 1 with a laptop PC or tablet, refer to your device’s Operating Manual for how to
enable Bluetooth, then follow steps 1 through 7 above.
INCOMING CALLS OR MAKING A CALL fROM YOUR PHONE
Music should pause automatically when you dial a phone number or receive an incoming call.
NOTE: This feature may not work on all Bluetooth-enabled phones. Check your device’s Operating Manual.
