Nomad Outdoor &Surround Speakers
Congratulations on your purchase of the Nomad Series Surround & Outdoor Speakers and thank you for
your selection of Parasound. These speakers are designed to provide you with high-fidelity reproduction
in a wide variety of outdoor and home theater applications. The carbon-polypropylene woofer cones and
ferrofluid treated wide dispersion tweeter have been carefully constructed to resist the effects of hostile
weather climates. The specially molded cabinets are hermetically sealed and specially designed to resist
the elements in harsh environments. Because high performance and long life depend on proper
installation and wiring, please take a few minutes to read these instructions thoroughly.
Unpacking
Save your carton and the packing inserts for future safe transport in case you move or your speakers
ever require shipping for repair. The inside carton is not strong enough for safe shipping without an
outer carton. You must place it into the additional outer carton before shipment. Be sure to save the
allen wrench included with your speakers, it is necessary for mounting the Nomads to their mounting
brackets.
Choosing Your Mounting Locations
Placement affects the performance of all loudspeakers. All Nomad Surround/Outdoor Speakers are
compact for easy placement. If you are using your speakers outdoors, there are additional precautions
you should take to extend their useful life. Their bass response will be enhanced by the proximity of
nearby walls or ceilings. To obtain maximum bass output, locate each speaker near the junction of two
walls or where two walls and a ceiling or eaves meet. They will sound best when placed vertically with
the tweeter above the woofer. Be aware that outdoor speaker placement makes it nearly impossible to
hear the same level of bass as you would enjoy indoors where the interior wall and ceiling boundaries
reinforce low frequencies. Never drive the speaker to attempt to reach the same outdoor levels you
would expect from indoor speakers. This could damage the speakers and/or amplifier. If you hear
distortion, this is a warning to turn down the volume. If you think your amplifier is underpowered to
adequately drive the speakers outside, consult your Parasound dealer for advice. A rather large listening
area may require more than a single pair of speakers to reach satisfactory volume levels.

Outdoor Location Considerations
Nomad speakers are designed to resist most weather conditions with minimal sonic deterioration.
However, please observe the following precautions to extend their life:
1. Avoid exposure to direct sunlight to minimize the speakers being subjected to heat and ultraviolet
radiation.
2. Avoid extended exposure to salt air to prevent the speaker being subjected to its extremely
corrosive effects. If you live near the coast, locate your speakers so you can easily disconnect them,
clean them off with clear water and store them inside when not in use. Speakers showing evidence of
extended exposure to salt air or salt water corrosion are not covered under warranty.
3. Never locate your speakers directly on the ground where they can sit in pooled water where the grille
and woofer can remain wet. If you must place them near the ground, place something underneath
them to raise them above puddles.
4. Never submerge the speakers or attempt to use them underwater. Not only will this seriously damage
the speakers, but you will expose yourself to the risk of electrocution.
5. Do not locate the speaker closer than two feet to any heat source such as an exposed radiator or
heating duct.
Surround Speaker Location
Your Nomad speakers are superb for surround sound. There is a lot of flexibility in locating your Nomad
speakers for surround sound. They should be placed where you cannot localize the sound they reproduce.
Rather, they should give you a feeling of sonic envelopment--as if you are there. You don’t necessarily
need to aim the surround speakers at the listening position. You may want to try aiming them at the wall
or even the ceiling to increase reflected sound to help diminish image localization. Expect some
experimentation with surround speaker placement to yield the best results.
Nomad Surround/Outdoor Speaker Mounting Brackets
The unique stainless steel mounting brackets included with your Nomads allow you to mount the speaker
in a variety of angles and positions.
Mounting the Bracket to the Wall (Refer to the drawing on page 3)
1. Determine the location on the wall where you will mount the Nomad Speaker.
3. You can change the angle of the bracket by removing the set screw on the top of the bracket,
realigning the adjustment holes, and reinserting and tightening the set screw.
2. Drill two horizontal pilot holes 3 1/8" apart on the mounting location; use the bracket as a template
for this.
3. Fasten the bracket to the wall with hardware that will reliably support the weight of the speaker.
Make sure the horizontal support of the bracket is facing up.
4. Rotate the bracket to the desired position and fasten the bracket to the wall.

-3-
Mounting the Nomad to its Bracket
1. Screw the four allen bolts partially into the threaded holes in back of the Nomad cabinet leaving
about 1/4" of exposed thread. Next, slide the speaker onto the mounting bracket. The weight of the
speaker should cause the four bolts to drop into the smaller portion of keyhole openings.
2. Once you have properly seated the speaker onto its the bracket, tighten the four bolts with the
supplied 5 mm allen wrench.
3. The spacing of the holes in the mounting bracket also allow the Nomad to be horizontally mounted.

Connecting Speaker Wire to the Nomad Speakers
Nomad Series Speakers employ five-way binding posts, so you can connect them to your amplifier with
either spade lugs, banana plugs or bare wire. When using bare wire, we recommend that you “tin” the
speaker wire with solder to help prevent oxidation. Note that the rear of the Nomad cabinet has a recess
to help facilitate routing speaker wire.
Route an appropriate length of no thinner than 16 AWG speaker wire to each speaker and be sure to
maintain correct + and - polarity to insure correct phasing. Most wires have a ridge or pattern on one of
the conductors to help keep the polarity consistent.
If the installation requires wire to be exposed to direct sunlight or buried, you may want to use special
underground/UV resistant wire. Seal the hole where the wires enter exterior walls to prevent air or
water leaks.

Maintenance
Keep your Nomad speakers clean and free of debris such as leaves and dirt. It is a good idea to wipe the
outside of the cabinet with a soft cloth and a quick application of spray or paste wax to keep the finish
looking new. Do not remove the grille to expose the drivers or disassemble the cabinets.
In Case of Trouble
If you suspect a problem with your Nomad speakers, first recheck all your connections. If only one
speaker is inoperative, the trouble may be caused by another component or even a defective hookup
cable. We suggest you contact your authorized Parasound Dealer or Installer, or call Parasound
Technical Service. We may be able to suggest diagnostic tests you can easily perform yourself and
which will save you a lot of trouble.
If we determine that the speaker should be returned to Parasound or an Authorized Warranty Center for
inspection and possible servicing, call for the location of a Warranty Center near you. If you choose to
send it to Parasound, you must call or write to obtain a Return Authorization number. You will be asked
to repack the unit in its original packing and an outer cardboard carton for proper protection in transit.
We will give you shipping instructions. We may refuse units that arrive without the correct Return
Authorization number, an unsuitable shipping carton or that have evidence of improper internal packing.
We cannot accept collect shipments. After repair under warranty, the unit will be returned to you
prepaid.
