1. Introduction
This document provides all necessary information to use and maintain PAULSON Heat Reflective Quick
View Shield Quick View Series products. To be properly protected you must carefully study this manual
before use! Failure to follow these instructions can result in a permanent impairment of sight or other
serious personal injury. For the Declaration of Conformity (DoC) enter the article number as shown above
to the search field at https://www.paulson-international.com.
2. General Warnings
Use by skilled persons as per your Hazard and Risk Analysis only (see Chapter 16).
Only use as a kit.
Only use original replacement parts.
Make sure that your workplace is sufficiently illuminated.
Free head movement and personal view may be affected.
Insufficient packing may decrease the level of protection. Thus, follow the instructions as per
Chapter 9.
The following warnings are standard warnings as per EN 166:
Material which may come in contact with the wearer's skin could cause allergic reactions to
susceptible individuals. (REMARK: PAULSON carefully selects the materials and is not aware of
any allergic reaction so far.)
The PAULSON Heat Reflective Quick View Shield protects against high speed particles. The
protector shall only be used against high speed particles at room temperature.
When worn over standard ophthalmic spectacles, they may transmit impacts, thus creating a
hazard to the wearer.
3. Field of Application
The PAULSON Heat Reflective Quick View Shield, together with additional PPE appropriate for the afore
determined level of protection, protects the qualified user minimizing the effects of radiant heat sources to
eyes and partly the face, when correctly selected, used and combined with further appropriate PPE. They
are not intended to be used for protection against laser radiation.
Despite of the fact that the short PAULSON Heat Reflective Quick View Shields can be worn as stand-
alone face shields, they are mainly designed to be combined with other, e.g. larger clear or tinted face
shields (→ ‘Base Shield’ see Chapter 7).
WARNING: The PAULSON Heat Reflective Quick View Shield is designed to protect against the radiant
heat source, e.g. as emitted by molten metal or hot solids at an average temperature of up to 1150°C

(protection level 4 – 2.5) according to EN 166:2001 and EN 171:2002, Annex B.1. It does not protect
against extremes of environmental heat such as indoor temperatures of heat chambers, etc.
The PAULSON Heat Reflective Quick View Shield protects against molten metal and hot solids as per
EN 166:2001, Clause 7.2.3.
4. Description
The PAULSON Heat Reflective Quick View Shield kit consists of a short face shield with hinges to be
mounted to a PAULSON Cap Bracket for slotted caps (CB2-HD, CB2-HD-CT (Euro Clip)) or a PAULSON
Cap Bracket for slotted and un-slotted caps (CB6-HD). These brackets are designed to keep another,
typically larger face shield (Base Shield) underneath, providing full protection for eyes and partly the face
when completely assembled with all components. For all possible combinations see Chapter 7.
5. Assembly Instructions
General:
Mount the PAULSON Heat Reflective Quick View Shield with a PAULSON Cap Bracket only to a helmet
that is approved for high heat protection at the maximum expected level. In case of any doubt, contact your
helmet manufacturer.
Installation at Slotted Caps
For helmets with the European accessory slot type select the PAULSON Cap Bracket CB2-HD-CT, for
most other accessory slot types select the PAULSON Cap Bracket CB2-HD. Contact PAULSON for
further slot types. Insert the black adapters (snap-in blades) of the cap bracket into the accessory slots at
the sides of the helmet. There will be an audible click when the black adapter is fully seated into the slot
of the helmet.
Installation at slotted or non-slotted Caps
Center the PAULSON Cap Bracket CB6-HD on the front of the helmet placing the front brim into the
groove of the cap bracket; pull the elastomeric band over the top of the shell. Assure cap bracket is
centered and has captured the helmet brim for a secure fit.
Installation of the windows
The windows (Quick View Shield, Base Shield) can be mounted or unmounted at any time.
Mounting the Base Shield: Fit the upper slots at the top edge of the shield over the cam locks and turn the
cam locks into a vertical position for a secure fit.
Mounting the Quick View Shield: Unscrew the pivot screws and remember the sequence and orientation
of the components. Place the Quick View hinge at the outer side of the bracket and turn in the pivot
screws.
6. Usage
Always check the PAULSON Heat Reflective Quick View Shield assembly components before use. Make
sure the PAULSON Heat Reflective Quick View Shield and, if mounted, the Base Shield is securely
fastened to the cap bracket with the cam locks. Adjust the bracket to the cap, if necessary. Tighten the
pivot screws, so that the Heat Reflective Quick View Shield and, if mounted, the Base Shield can easily be
flapped up and down and securely rest in any position.
Despite of the fact that the PAULSON Heat Reflective Quick View Shield can be fixed in any position,
while working in the vicinity of radiation heat sources, the intended protection can be provided only, when
the PAULSON Heat Reflective Quick View Shield is securely fixed and in the deployed position. NOTE:
Protection against radiant heat is provided only for those areas of the face covered by the PAULSON
Heat Reflective Quick View Shield.

11. Inspection Criteria and Determination of End of Useful Life
Inspect and replace any damaged or worn components. Never re-use the PAULSON Heat Reflective
Quick View Shield or Base Shield, if any replacement criteria delineated above is fulfilled.
The PAULSON Heat Reflective Quick View Shield is made from high quality materials by leading
manufacturing processes and designed for long term use (5 years). Nevertheless, like any other product
made from plastic or plastic alloys, it suffers from typical combinations of daily work factors, such as UV
radiation, contact with oil and lubes, scratches and mechanical impacts like all plastic products.
Therefore, PAULSON recommends replacing the shield in case one of the replacement criteria listed in
Chapter 10 is fulfilled. For reasons of safety the user is requested to track the time of use and to consider
a safe time for replacement. This is a general safety recommendation and independent to the PAULSON
protective technology.
12. Standards
The PAULSON Heat Reflective Quick View Shield is tested and certified to EN 166:2001 and 171: 2002
and comply with Annex II of PPE Regulation 2016/425.
13. CE Marking
The marking is the same for all PAULSON Heat Reflective Quick View Shields described in this
document:
