This document is a brief guide to installing and commissioning a Net2 system. If you are new to Net2 please
read through the Net2 installation reference manual before attempting installation!

What data cable should be used?
The hardware has been improved to accommodate using Category 5 (CAT5) cable for networking the Net2
controllers. The network labelling has been changed to reflect this. It is still OK to use Beldon 8723 cable.

Things to look out for when wiring:
• Are the end of line termination resistors in place?
• Are the reader and data cable screens connected throughout?
(Reader and keypad screens should be connected to the Blk/Wht terminal)

Some worthwhile checks:
• Check the screen of the data cable is continuous
• Check that there are no screen shorts
• Check the resistance of the data line is between 50-70 ohms
90% of installation faults are caused by wiring errors on the RS485 dataline. Special attention to getting this
right first time saves a lot of time and effort.
Commissioning
1. Install the Net2 software from the CDROM.
2. Run the Net2 software and detect the ACUs (Access Control Units) in the Doors screen. Check that all
of the ACUs have been found. The software will update the firmware in all ACUs once they have been
detected
3. Each ACU must be configured:
4. The system must be checked by creating events (presenting a magstripe/proximity card) at each door.
All events should appear in the Events screen.
Things to look out for when commissioning
• Is there power to the RS232/485 convertor and is the polarity correct?
• Is the converter plugged into the correct COM port?
• Is the software in demo mode? (It shouldn’t be!) Click in the help menu and select about Net2 to check.
Using the system
1. Change the default password for the System engineer operator and set up other operators if required.
2. Set up time zones.
3. Set up access levels.
4. Users can be added and assigned to the required access level. Departments can be created if required.

Door name: Name the ACU
Door open time: Set the door open time
Name: Each reader can be named individually if
required.
Reader type: Set the reader type, if applicable.
Keypad type: Set the keypad type, if applicable.
Card data format: Select the type of cards being used on

Reader 1: Refers to reader1 and keypad 1 on the ACU.
Reader 2: Refers to reader2 and keypad 2 on the ACU.
This is configured independently of reader 1.
Alarm: Contains settings for the different types of
alarm.
Codes: Valid codes can be viewed, added and removed.
(Can only be viewed when a keypad is being used)
Events: Shows the events in the local database for the
control unit selected.
Reader operating mode: Set the operating mode.
Timed operating modes: A different operating mode
can be confi

Reader action: Set the action required when access is
granted.
