2.MAINSWITCH

Main switch
To switch on, push the main switch button. The
lens extends slightly to the wide-angle 28mm
setting and the LCD panel is on. To switch off,
push the main switch button again.
When not in
use,ensurethat the camera is switched off.
. Use two 3V lithium batteries,type DL123A or
CR123A.Do not remove the batteries before
they are exhausted, since they are used by the
date function on the DATE model to keep con-
stant track of time.
o The lens cover automatically opens and
closeswhen the main switch is on and off
Neverattempt to open the lenscover manu-
4 allY.
Battery check
After you turn the main switch ON, the lens
slightly extendsand the lens cover opens.
You
are now ready to shoot. (See page 40 when the
battery exhaustion symbol (fl) appears on
the LCD
panel.)
* lf the camera is on and left unused for over 3
minutes, the lens automatically retracts
and
the power switches off to save battery power.
* lf the main switch is turned on within 30 min-
utes of auto-power off, the previous setting
will automatically
return.

3. HOWTO HOLD
THECAMERA
When shooting, hold the camera securely
with both hands.
Keep
thecamera
asstillas
possible,
and gentlydepressthe shutter
re-
leasebutton.
(lftoo muchforceis applied,the
camera
is likelyto shake,andthe picture
will
be blurred.)
Try to brace
your elbowsagainst
your body,or support
yourself
andthe cam-
eraagainsta stable,stationaryobject,such
as
a wall.
When usingthe flashwith the camera
posi-
tionedvertically,holdthe cameraso that the
flashis abovethe lens.
Caution:
Do not hold the zoom lensbecause
it moves
backand
forthwhilein operation.
Note:
. Makesure not to obstructthe autofocus
window,lens,lightsensor
window
or the
built-in
flashwith yourfingers
or hair.

* With the stepzoom,the lensstopsat
lens
focal
lengthof 28,35,42,50,60,70,
and80mm.To stop at the ne)dstep,
re-
turn thezoominglever to itsoriginal
po-
sition,andthenslightlymoveit again.
* When you move the zoominglever
or
the shutterrelease button
isdepressed
halfwaydown, the lensfocallengthis
displayedon the LCD
panel.
