Philio PSC05 Mini Z-Wave Gateway
Quick Start Guide
Thank you for purchasing a Leak Gopher and the Philio Mini Gateway. We hope this Quick Start Guide
will help you get going and you home or business protected.
Let’s outline what we are going to do…
1. Set up your Philio Gateway. The Philio Gateway allows you to connect to Z-Wave devices in your
house to monitor for leaks, turn off the water automatically and do all kinds of other cool stuff
by adding other Z-Wave devices.
2. Connect your Philio Gateway to your home wireless network so you can operate your devices
from anywhere.
3. Include the Leak Gopher Valve Control, the Leak Gopher Water Sensor, and other Z-Wave
devices in your Z-Wave network.
4. Learn how to Exclude a Z-Wave device just in case you need to know how.
5. Create Scenes to control the Leak Gopher Valve with the push of a button.
6. Create a Macro to have the Philio Gateway monitor your water sensors and turn off the water if
a leak is detected.
1. Setting up the Gateway
Plug the PSC05 into a USB/120VAC adapter
Plug the USB/120VAC adapter into 120VAC outlet
Go to Wi-Fi settings and choose the PSC05 as your wireless network
The password is 12345678
Exit Wi-Fi settings
Download the Philio Home Mate App and install in on your telephone
Open the Philio Home Mate App
Press + Gateway to add your Gateway
Press QR Code
Scan the QR code on the back of the PSC05 with your phone
The Gateway ID is admin
The Gateway password is 888888
Enter the Gateway ID and password
Press Confirm
The Gateway is now added to your Home Mate App
2. Controlling Your Gateway Away From Home
You have been communicating with the Gateway via its internal wireless network. So what if you want
to go out for a Pizza but still want to have access to your Gateway and all of your devices? You must
change the way you communicate with your Gateway. You do this by changing from the local Access
Point (AP) mode to the station (STA) mode. What this means is we are going to tell the Gateway to talk
to your home wireless router. The Gateway will make a connection with your wireless router and you
will be able to communicate with the Gateway from anywhere you have internet.
Changing from AP Mode to STA Mode
Press the Settings Icon in the top right – looks like three gears
Press Setting
Press the blue link that says AP Mode – PSC05-XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX
A screen will pop up
Press STA Mode
If you get this message “Error getting SSID listing” Press Dismiss and try again. If this continues you may
have to reset the Gateway. To reset the Gateway, insert a paper clip into the hole on the side marked
reset.
Screen will display a list of available wireless networks
Press your SSID
Screen will prompt you for your wireless password. Enter your wireless password
The Gateway should pop up a message saying the Gateway is changing WI-Fi modes asking you to
reconnect after 1 minute. IF can’t connect please reset Gateway and change Wi-Fi Mode again.
Hopefully it will say Info – Wi-Fi Changes Successful and you are done.
Now you can go anywhere there is Internet and control your Leak Gopher or any other of your devices.
Try it! Leave Home! Travel! Your house is protected!
3. To Include a Z-Wave Device
Let’s include your Leak Gopher Z-Wave Valve Control into your network
Plug the power adapter into the bottom of your Leak Gopher and plug the power adapter into a 120V
outlet
Plug the valve into the bottom of the Leak Gopher
Start the Home Mate APP
Press the Gateway that was just added i.e. Gateway 1
Press the Sensors button at the bottom left – note there are no devices
Press the Settings Icon in the top right – looks like three gears
Press Include Device
The Screen displays Setting Mode of Gateway
After a few seconds the screen displays Including Devices and starts counting down in seconds
Press the Add/Include button on your device (the Leak Gopher Include Button is the Z-Wave Logo on the
front of the device) (some devices require you press the button three times). Check your user’s guide to
locate the Add/Include button on your device.
Thescreenwill display configuring device
When the device configuration is complete it will display Device Included
When finished, check to see that the Sensors screen is still selected. If not Press the Sensors button in
the bottom left
You should see your Leak Gopher Listed on the screen as “Valve Switch”
That’s it! Your Leak Gopher Z-Wave Valve Control is ready to use.
Repeat this process to add Leak Gopher Water Sensors and other devices to your Home Mate App
Let’sTry it!
Be sure you are on the Sensors screen and see your Leak Gopher device
The Valve Switch Icon will show on or off at the bottom. The first time you see this icon it may or may
not be in sync with your valve.
Look at your valve. Notice if it is open or closed?
Press the Water Switch icon
A new screen appears with a rocker switch
The rocker switch will indicate that the valve is off or on. It may be wrong the first time.
Press the rocker switch to on
If your valve was already open nothing happened
Press the rocker switch to off
If the valve was open it will close
Now you have the valve in sync with the APP.
Try it some more. Press on and off. Notice valve takes about 9 seconds to open or close. It is not a bad
idea to give the valve time to complete its transition before pressing the rocker switch the other way. It
is also a good idea to cycle your valve from time to time to help prevent scale and mineral sediment
from impeding your valve operating.
Leave the valve open and press the x at the top right of the window to close the window and return to
the Sensors screen.
Wasn’t that fun!
4. Excluding a Device
There may be a time when you want to remove a Z-Wave device form your network. Z-Wave is a very
advanced communications system and your controller and each Z-Wave device exchange a lot of
information. This information needs to be deleted from both the controller and the device by using the
Exclude Device function of the Gateway. Here’s how you do it.
Start the Home Mate APP
Press the Gateway that was just added i.e. Gateway 1
Press the Sensors button at the bottom left – look to verify the device you want to remove is listed
Press the Settings Icon in the top right – looks like three gears
Press Exclude Device
The Screen displays Setting Mode of Gateway
After a few seconds the screen displays Including Devices and starts counting down in seconds
Press the Delete/Remove button on your (the Leak Gopher Delete Button is the Z-Wave Logo on the
front of the device) (some devices require you press the button three times). Check your user’s guide to
locate the Delete/Exclude button on your device.
Thescreenwill display configuring device
When the device configuration is complete it will display Device Excluded
When finished, check to see that the Sensors screen is still selected. If not Press the Sensors button in
the bottom left
You should see your device is not listed on the screen
Repeat this process to remove other devices to your Home Mate App
5. Creating a Scene
A scene is simply a shortcut to perform a task with a device. For example, if you want to turn your water
off with the Leak Gopher Z-Wave Valve Control you can create a scene to turn the water off at the touch
of a button on your phone. Let’s use this as an example to create a scene in your APP.
You have already experienced that you can turn your Leak Gopher valve on and off from the Sensors
screen. It only took two clicks. Let’s create a scene so we can do it with one click!
Press the Scenes button at the bottom middle of your screen.
Notice there currently are no scenes.
Press the Settings Icon in the top right – looks like three gears
Press Setting
Scroll down and press Advance Setting
Press Scene
You will notice that the Gateway has s Home Security Alarm area at the top of the screen. It is outside
the scope of this Quick Start Guide to cover this area of operation. For more information on the Home
Security Alarm capabilities of the PSC05 visit www.Philio.com.
Press the + below the Home Security Alarm section of the screen
A window to Add New Title will appear. This is where you name the scene.
Press in the window and type “Turn Water Off”
Press ok at the bottom of the title window
Give it a second and the screen will reappear with your scene title
Press the + button under the word Add
Your Leak Gopher device will appear at the bottom of the screen. It is called Valve Switch.
Press Valve Switch
It moves to the top of the screen
Notice that there is a slider button to the right and in the center, it says OFF
That means when you press this button you want to turn the water OFF
Press Close at the top left of your phone screen
Press the Scenes icon at the bottom center
Eureka! You did it! You now have a Turn Water Off scene.
Try it.
Verify the valve is open. If not, you can use the ON button on the front of the Leak Gopher to open the
valve
Press the Turn Water Off Scene button
Notice the screen will display 0/1 at the bottom and then Success Send Command 1/1
Thevalvewill close
Wow! One button! You did it!
This means the controller successfully sent the command to close the valve to the Leak Gopher and the
Leak Gopher acknowledged that it received and executed the command. The at this time the Philio
PSC05 Mini Gateway does not support the Z-Wave Alert Class to verify the vale has indeed closed. The
Leak Gopher does support this class and has two limit switches to verify the position of the valve or Alert
the controller that it cannot confirm if the valve is open or closed. This means the wire to the valve has
been damaged or there is some other problem. We hope the Philio PSC05 Mini Gateway will support
this class soon.
Why not create a Scene to Open the valve as well? One button on, one button off.
Follow the instructions above to create the scene.
Name the Scene “Turn Water On”
When you get to the point where you have moved the Valve Switch to the top of the screen, move the
slider on the Valve Switch to the right or “On” position. You will see the word change form OFF to ON in
the middle.
Finish up and go to the Scenes Screen.
You now have a one button Turn Water On Button.
Now you can turn the water on or off at the touch of one button.
Wow! You are good at this stuff!
6. Create a Macro
Macros are simply a set of instructions to tell the controller to do something or many things.
In our case, we want the controller to monitor a water sensor and if it gets wet, turn off the water. After
it turns off the water we also want the controller to tell us that something is going on by sending us a
message.
Before we can create a macro to monitor a water sensor, we must have a water sensor. If you have a
Leak Gopher water sensor you can follow the instructions “To Include a Z-Wave Device” earlier to
include your Leak Gopher Water Sensor into your Z-Wave network. These instructions should work well
with any water sensor but our example is using the Leak Gopher Water Sensor.
Now you have a Leak Gopher Water Sensor and a Leak Gopher Valve Control and you can see them
under the Sensors screen.
Let’s create that Macro.
Press the Marcos Icon at the bottom of your screen
Notice there are no Macros listed
Press the Settings Icon in the top right – looks like three gears (a lot of things start with the Settings
Icon)
Press Setting
Scroll down and Press Advanced Setting
Press Macro
Press the + to add a new macro
Give the Macro a title. How about “If Wet – Turn Off Water”
Press ok to close the title screen
Check out this screen! There’s a lot going on and it is confusing. Don’t worry. It is really simle.
Notice the structure of the screen…
At the top is the title of the Macro “If Wet – Turn Off Water”
Under that is the word “If”
Under that is a +
Under that is the word “then”
Another +
Then “or”
Another +
“Duration” 0h0m0s
Push Message and a slider switch
First… press the + under “If”
Your water sensor will pop up at the bottom of the screen. Press it
Press the + under “then”
Your Scenes pop up at the bottom of the screen
Press Turn Water Off
At the bottom, move the small slider next to Push Message to the right. Try tapping the slider to get it to
move.
Press Close at the top left of your screen
That’s it!
Let’s test it.
Verify your valve is open
Make your water sensor wet.
The valve will close. (some water sensors must be wet for as much as three minutes before they tell the
controller. The Leak Gopher Water Sensor tells the controller instantly so there is less chance of damage
due to leaking water.)
Eureka Again!
Nothing to it.
Remember to open the valve before you install it or you may not remember why you don’t have any
water!
The Philio Mini Gateway has many more really cool capabilities that are outside the scope of this Quick
Start Guide. Please contact www.Philio.com for more information.
