A Quick Start Guide to Setting up the Solar Power Supply
for the Radius®BZ1 and RGX®Gateway
SUPPLIES YOU WILL NEED
For unpacking and assembly
•Utility knife
•Compass or compass app on smartphone
•Level (optional)
•Mallet for driving stakes (optional)
For battery installation or removal
•Flathead screwdriver
•Adjustable wrench
•Socket set with 6” extension

STEP 1: UNPACK ALL ITEMS.
1. Take the legs out of the box (labeled LEGS) and place them in an upright
position
2. In the box labeled “ALL OTHER EQUIPMENT”, take out the junction box, solar
panel with top of pole mount, and the battery
Note: Radius®BZ1 or RGX®Gateway are ordered and shipped separately
STEP 2: INSTALL ORANGE INSERT INSIDE 4 LEGGED-SOLAR CHARGER
1. After placing solar charger in the upright position, find the stainless metal
sign on top that spells “FRONT”.
2. On the orange insert, find the stainless sign that spells “FRONT”. Match to
the “FRONT” signs on the solar charger and place the orange insert into the
mounting tubes on the legs.
3. Adjust the legs to the desired height by removing the square pins in each of
the 4 legs.
4. Optional: Secure the orange insert by installing 2 cotter pins.
STEP 3: INSTALL SOLAR PANEL ON TOP OF THE SOLAR CHARGER
1. The solar panel assembly arrives ready for use and contains the solar panel,
solar panel bracket, solar cable, mini-lock, and 2” top of pole mount. Simply
place the assembly on top of the instrument stand’s 2”X5” nipple and secure
by tightening the (2) 3/8” knobs. Then, snap the plastic mini lock on to the
solar cable attached to the solar panel.
2. Make sure to turn the solar panel to DUE SOUTH FOR MAXIMUM CHARGING
EFFICIENCY.
STEP 4: INSTALL BATTERY AND BATTERY STRAP
1. Place the 55-amp battery inside the (3) strap battery bracket and tighten.
2. Connect the red lead to the positive (+) side of battery and the black lead to
the negative (-) side of battery and tighten.
3. Check the battery voltage to make sure the battery is fully charged (about
12.0-12.6 volts dc.). Close and tighten junction box.
STEP 5: INSTALL RADIUS®BZ1 ON THE 4-LEGGED SOLAR CHARGER
1. Unpackage the Radius and place on top of the orange insert with the
instrument window in line with the “FRONT” stainless signs.
2. Secure to stand by adjusting the (2) 5/16” hold down clamps attached to the
orange insert.

STEP 6: INSTALL THE RGX®GATEWAY (IF NEEDED)
1. Attach the RGX to the back of the orange insert by aligning the (4) magnets
on the back of the RGX to the (4) black flat washers on the insert.
STEP 7: CONNECT ALL POWER AND TURN UNIT ON
1. Connect Solar Panel- Solar cable should already be attached to solar panel.
Take the other end of cable and attach to the Enclosure connector marked
“Solar Panel.”
2. Connect Radius power cable- Connect the blue Radius power cable provided
to either of the Output 1 or 2 connectors in the back of the junction box.
3. Connect RGX power cable - Connect the blue RGX power cable provided to
the open or free Output 1 or 2 connectors in the back of the junction box.
4. Turn the Radius on.
5. Turn on RGX.
6. Turn the solar charger unit on by engaging ON/OFF switch on back of orange
insert.
STEP 8: CONFIRM CHARGING
1. Confirm you see a lightning bolt symbol on the Radius BZ1 and that there is a
solid green light on the side of the RGX Gateway.
