Important
IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
Read these instructions for use carefully
before using the appliance and save them
for future reference.
◗Keep the appliance dry (fig. 1).
◗Store and use the appliance at a
temperature between 5ºC and 35ºC.
Inserting batteries
IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
The appliance runs on two LR6 AA
1.5-volt batteries. Preferably use Philips
alkaline batteries.
Make sure that your hands are dry when
inserting the batteries.
1Remove the lid of the battery
compartment (fig. 2).
2Place two batteries in the battery
compartment (fig. 3).
Make sure the + and - indications on the
batteries match the indications in the
battery compartment.
The shaver does not work if the batteries
have been placed incorrectly.
3Put the lid of the battery
compartment back onto the
appliance. First insert the top part
of the lid (1) and then press the
bottom part down until you hear a
click (2) (fig. 4).
◗To avoid damage due to battery
leakage:
- do not expose the appliance to
temperatures higher than 35ºC;
- remove the batteries if the appliance is
not going to be used for a month or
more;
- do not leave empty batteries in the
appliance.
Shaving time
Two new Philips alkaline batteries offer a
shaving time of 45 minutes.
Using the appliance
IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
Shaving
1Switch the appliance on by pressing
the switch lock and pushing the
on/off slide upwards (fig. 5).
The switch lock prevents accidental
switching on of the appliance.
2Move the shaving head quickly over
your skin, making both straight and
circular movements (fig. 6).
Shaving on a dry face gives the best
results.
Your skin may need 2 or 3 weeks to get
accustomed to the Philishave system.
3Switch the shaver off by pushing the
on/off slide downwards.
4Put the protection cap on the
shaver every time you have used it,
to prevent damage (fig. 7).
Cleaning and maintenance
IIIIIII
Regular cleaning guarantees better shaving
performance.
Every week: shaving unit and
hair chamber
1Make sure the shaver is switched off.
2Clean the top of the appliance first,
using the brush supplied (fig. 8).
3Remove the shaving unit by turning
it anticlockwise (1) and lifting it off
the shaver (2) (fig. 9).
4Clean the inside of the shaving unit
and the hair chamber with the brush
(fig. 10).
5Put the shaving unit back onto the
shaver by turning it clockwise.
Every two months: shaving head
1Make sure the shaver is switched off.
2Remove the shaving unit by turning
it anticlockwise (1) and lifting it off
the shaver (2) (fig. 9).
3Remove the retaining plate by
turning it anticlockwise (1) and
lifting it out of the shaving unit (2)
(fig. 11).
4Lift the frame with the shaving head
out of the shaving unit and slide the
shaving head out of the frame
(fig. 12).
5Clean the cutter with the short-
bristled side of the brush (fig. 13).
Brush carefully in the direction of the
arrow.
6Brush the guard (fig. 14).
7Slide the shaving head back into the
frame and put the frame back into
the shaving unit (fig. 15).
8Put the retaining plate back into the
shaving unit and turn it clockwise
(fig. 16).
Make sure that the recesses of the
retaining plate fit over the ridges in the
shaving unit.
9Put the shaving unit back onto the
shaver.
◗For extra thorough cleaning, clean the
shaving head by putting it in a
degreasing liquid (e.g. alcohol) every
six months. To remove the shaving
head, follow steps 1 to 4 described
above. After cleaning, lubricate the
central point on the inside of the guard
with a drop of sewing machine oil to
prevent wear of the shaving head
(fig. 17).
Storage
IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
◗Put the protection cap on the shaver
to prevent damage (fig. 7).
Replacement
IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
Replace the shaving head every two years
for optimal shaving results.
Replace the damaged or worn shaving
head with a HQ55 Philishave shaving head
only.
1Follow steps 1 to 4 in chapter
'Cleaning and maintenance', section
'Every two months: shaving head'.
2Slide a new shaving head into the
frame (fig. 18).

shaver.
