1 Important
Safety
• Read these instructions.
• Heed all warnings.
• Follow all instructions.
• Do not use this apparatus near water.
• Do not install near any heat sources such
as radiators, heat registers, stoves, or
other apparatus (including ampliers) that
produce heat.
• Only use attachments/accessories specied
by the manufacturer.
• Refer all servicing to qualied service
personnel. Servicing is required when
the apparatus has been damaged in any
way, such as liquid has been spilled or
objects have fallen into the apparatus, the
apparatus has been exposed to rain or
moisture, does not operate normally, or
has been dropped.
• Battery usage CAUTION – To prevent
battery leakage which may result in bodily
injury, property damage, or damage to the
unit:
• Install all batteries correctly, + and - as
marked on the unit.
• Do not mix batteries (old and new or
carbon and alkaline, etc.).
• Remove batteries when the unit is not
used for a long time.
• Batteries (battery pack or batteries
installed) shall not be exposed to excessive
heat such as sunshine, re or the like.
• Apparatus shall not be exposed to
dripping or splashing.
• Do not place any sources of danger on the
apparatus (e.g. liquid lled objects, lighted
candles).

3 Get started
Caution
• Use of controls or adjustments or performance of
procedures other than herein may result in hazardous
radiation exposure or other unsafe operation.
Always follow the instructions in this chapter in
sequence.
Install battery
Caution
• Risk of explosion! Keep batteries away from heat,
sunshine or re. Never discard batteries in re.
• Risk of product damage! When the apparatus is not
used for long periods, remove the battery.
• Batteries contain chemical substances, so they should
be disposed of properly.
1 Open the battery compartment.
2 Insert 4 x 1.5 V R14/C CELL/UM2
batteries (not supplied) with correct
polarity (+/-) as indicated.
3 Close the battery compartment.
Tip
• When the main unit is powered by batteries, the
backlight turns on for 5 seconds after any operation.
Connect power
Caution
• Risk of product damage! Ensure that the power supply
voltage corresponds to the voltage printed on the back
or the underside of the unit.
• Risk of electric shock! When you unplug the AC power
cord, always pull the plug from the socket. Never pull
the cord.
Connect the supplied AC power cord to:
• the AC 5V ~ 1A jack on the main unit.
• the wall outlet.
Set the clock
1 In standby mode, press and hold SCAN
/PROG for two seconds.
» [24H] or [12H] begin to blink.
2 Rotate Tuning Knob to set the time
format.
3 Press Tuning Knob to conrm.
» The hour digits begin to blink.
4 Rotate Tuning Knob to set the hour.
5 Press Tuning Knob to conrm.
» The minute digits begin to blink.

6 Rotate Tuning Knob to set the minute.
7 Press Tuning Knob to conrm.
Turn on
Press to turn on the radio.
» The radio switches to the last selected
source.
• Press again to switch the radio to
standby mode.
» The clock (if set) displays on the panel.

4 Listen to radio
Select FM/MW/LW band
1 Press to turn on the radio.
2 Press SRC to select FM, MW or LW
waveband.
Tune to a radio station
To tune to a radio station:
In FM/MW/LW mode, rotate Tuning Knob fast.
» The radio tunes to a station with strong
reception automatically.
To tune to a radio station manually:
In FM/MW/LW mode, rotate Tuning Knob until
your desired radio station is reached.
Program radio stations
automatically
Note
• You can program a maximum of 10 preset FM radio
stations, 10 preset MW radio stations, and 10 preset
LW radio stations.
1 Press to turn on the radio.
2 In FM/MW/LW mode, press and hold
SCAN/PROG for 2 seconds.
» All available stations are programmed
in the order of waveband reception
strength.
» The rst programed radio station
broadcasts automatically.
Program radio stations
manually
Note
• You can program a maximum of 10 preset FM radio
stations, 10 preset MW radio stations, and 10 preset
LW radio stations.
1 Press to turn on the radio.
2 In FM/MW/LW mode, rotate the Tuning
Knob to tune to a radio station.
3 Press SCAN/PROG.
» The preset number blinks.
4 Rotate the Tuning knob to select a preset
number.
5 Press the knob to conrm.
6 Repeat steps 2 - 5 to program more
stations.
Tip
• To overwrite a programmed station, program another
station in its place.
Select a preset radio station
1 Press to turn on the radio.
2 In FM/MW/LW mode, press 1 - 5+ to
select a preset radio station.
Tip
• If you want to select a preset number 6-10, press 5+
rst and then press other corresponding numeric
keypad (for example, to select preset 6, press 5+ and
1).

5 Other features
Set the cooking timer
(countdown timer)
You can set a time period after which the radio
buzzes.
Note
• Before setting the alarm, set the clock to the current
time.
1 Press TIMER.
» The hour digits begin to blink.
2 Rotate Tuning Knob to set the hour.
3 Press Tuning Knob to conrm.
» The minute digits begin to blink.
4 Rotate Tuning Knob to set the minute.
5 Press Tuning Knob to conrm.
» When the time has elapsed, the buzzer
will sound and blinks.
To stop the cooking timer
Press TIMER to turn off the buzzer.
» The radio tunes to the last selected station
and stops blink.
To reset the cooking timer
Press and hold TIMER for 3 seconds.
» The disappears on the display panel.
Play audio from an external
device
You can listen to audio from an external device
through this radio.
1 Connect an audio cable to:
• the AUDIO IN socket on the radio.
• the headphone socket on an external
device.
2 Press to turn on the radio.
3 Press SRC repeatedly to select the AUDIO
IN mode.
4 Play the external device (refer to its user
manual).
Adjust the volume level
During play, press +/- to increase/decrease the
volume level.

7 Troubleshooting
Warning
• Never remove the casing of this apparatus.
To keep the warranty valid, never try to repair
the system yourself.
If you encounter problems when using this
apparatus, check the following points before
requesting service. If the problem remains
unsolved, go to the Philips web site (www.
philips.com/support).When you contact Philips,
ensure that the apparatus is nearby and the
model number and serial number are available.
No power
• Ensure that the Mains cord is connected
securely.
• Ensure that there is power at the AC
Mains.
• Ensure that the batteries are inserted
correctly.
No sound
•Adjust the volume.
Clock/timer setting erased
•Replace the battery.
•Power has been interrupted or the power
plug has been disconnected.
•Reset the clock/timer.
No response from the unit
•Take out the batteries and turn on the unit
again.
•Disconnect and reconnect the AC power
plug, then turn on the unit again.
