Introduction
Thank you for purchasing a Pico Technology data logger. This guide explains how to install the
PicoLog 6 software and connect your data logger. It also contains important safety information
and advice on accessing user manuals and technical support.
We recommend that you use this document in the order it is presented:

1.1 System requirements
To ensure that PicoLog 6 operates correctly, you must use a computer with the system
requirements shown in the table below. The performance of the data logger will improve with a
more powerful PC, and will benet from a multi‑core processor.

* PicoLog 6 for Linux is distributed as an AppImage, so you can install it without superuser
permissions: see appimage.org for further information. The software has been tested on RedHat,
OpenSUSE and Ubuntu.
1.2 Installing the software
1. Go to www.picotech.com/downloads, select your data logger’s series and model from the
lists, then select the latest PicoLog software. Download and run the installer.
2. In the PicoLog installer, select the language you wish to use.
3. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the software. Do not connect the data logger
until the installation is complete.
4. You can try out the software with a demo device now, by clicking the new PicoLog6 icon
on your desktop.

Step 2: Safety information
To prevent possible electrical shock, re, personal injury, or damage to the product, read this
safety information carefully, along with the product‑specic safety information in the product
User’s Guide, before attempting to install or use the product. In addition, follow all generally
accepted safety practices and procedures for working with and near electricity.
The product has been designed and tested in accordance with the following European Union
directives: 2014/30/EU (EMC), 2014/35/EU (LVD), 2012/19/EU (WEEE) and 2011/65/EC (RoHS),
and left the factory in a safe condition. For more information, please refer to your product’s
EUDeclaration of Conformity, available for download from www.picotech.com.

2.2 Maximum input ranges
Observe all terminal ratings and warnings marked on the product.
The full scale measurement range is the maximum voltage that the instrument can accurately
measure. The overvoltage protection range is the maximum voltage that will not damage the
instrument.

WARNING
To prevent electric shock, do not attempt to measure voltages outside of the specied full
scale measurement range.
Signals exceeding the voltage limits in the table below are dened as “hazardous live” by
EN 61010. To prevent electric shock, take all necessary safety precautions when working on
equipment where hazardous live voltages may be present.

WARNING
Pico data loggers are only designed to measure or contact low voltages as dened by the
EU Low Voltage directive. To prevent electric shock, do not attempt to measure or contact
voltages outside the signal voltage limits of EN61010 or the specied full scale measurement
range, whichever is lower.
To prevent injury or death, do not allow the data logger to connect or make contact with the
mains (line power).
Take care when using temperature converters near mains equipment. Make sure the sensor
is not accidentally connected to a mains voltage: this may cause damage to the converter or
your computer, and your computer chassis may become live.
CAUTION
Exceeding the overvoltage protection range on any connector can cause permanent damage
to the data logger and other connected equipment.
2.3 Grounding
WARNING
The data logger’s ground connection through the USB cable is for measurement purposes
only. The data logger does not have a protective safety ground.
Never connect the ground input (chassis) to any electrical power source. To prevent personal
injury or death, use a voltmeter to check that there is no signicant AC or DC voltage between
the data logger ground and the point to which you intend to connect it.
CAUTION
Applying a voltage to the ground input is likely to cause permanent damage to the data logger,
the attached computer, and other equipment.
To prevent measurement errors caused by poor grounding, always use the high-quality USB
cable supplied with the data logger.
2.4 Environment
WARNING
To prevent injury or death, do not use in wet or damp conditions, or near explosive gas or
vapor.
CAUTION
To prevent damage, always use and store your data logger in appropriate environments.

Step 3: Connecting your data logger
Make sure you have already installed the PicoLog software before you connect the data logger.
The data logger will not work without the software.
1. Connect the data logger to your PC using the USB cable supplied. See the diagram below
for more information.
2. Wait for your computer to install the data logger. While doing so it will display a message
or icon in the taskbar telling you it has found the device.
3. Run the software by clicking the new PicoLog 6 icon on your desktop. PicoLog 6 will
automatically detect and identify your data logger. You are now ready to begin data
acquisition.

(PT-104 and PicoLog CM3 only), see the product User’s Guide.

Some Pico data loggers have enhanced environmental specications. Refer to the device’s
User’s Guide and Data Sheet for further information.
2.5 Care of the product
The product contains no user-serviceable parts. Repair, servicing and calibration require
specialized test equipment and must only be performed by Pico Technology or an approved
service provider. There may be a charge for these services unless covered by the warranty.
WARNING
To prevent injury or death, do not use the product if it appears to be damaged in any way, and
stop use immediately if you are concerned by any abnormal operations.
When cleaning the data logger, use a soft cloth and a solution of mild soap or detergent
in water. To prevent electric shock, do not allow water to enter the casing, as this will
compromise the electronics or insulation inside.
CAUTION
Do not tamper with or disassemble the data logger, connectors or accessories. Internal
damage will affect performance.

Documentation
The Data Sheet contains the latest specications for your data logger. We recommend that
you print a copy and keep it for easy reference. For detailed information on operating and
installing your product, you should consult its User’s Guide. You can download PDF copies
of all documentation relevant to your data logger, including the Programmer’s Guide, from
www.picotech.com/downloads.
Software updates and replacement
You can download the latest versions of all Pico software free of charge from
www.picotech.com/downloads. If you require a software disk, please contact Pico Technology
or your distributor.
Using PicoScope®software with your data logger
In addition to the PicoLog 6 software, the PicoLog 1012, PicoLog 1216 and DrDAQ data loggers
are also compatible with the PicoScope 6 software. This is available for free download from
www.picotech.com/downloads.
Writing your own software
PicoSDK, a software development kit with all the drivers and other les you will need to develop
your own custom programs, is available for download from www.picotech.com/downloads.

1.1 Conguration système requise

2.2 Plages d'entrée maximum

ATTENTION
Le dépassement de la plage de protection contre les surtensions sur n'importe quel
connecteur peut causer des dommages permanents à l'enregistreur de données et à tout autre
accessoire connecté.
2.3 Mise à la terre
AVERTISSEMENT
La liaison à la terre de l'enregistreur de données via le câble USB est destinée exclusivement à
des ns de mesure. L'enregistreur de données ne possède pas de terre de protection/sécurité.
Ne raccordez jamais l'entrée de terre (châssis) à une source d'alimentation électrique. An
d'éviter toute blessure, voire la mort, utilisez un voltmètre pour vérier l'absence de tension
continue ou alternative signicative entre la terre de l'enregistreur de données et le point
auquel vous avez l'intention de la raccorder.

l'enregistreur de données, à l'ordinateur connecté, et à d'autres équipements.

2.4 Environnement

Step 3: Connexion de votre enregistreur de données
Assurez‑vous d'avoir déjà installé le logiciel PicoLog avant de connecter l'enregistreur de
données. L'enregistreur de données ne fonctionnera pas sans le logiciel.
1. Connectez l'enregistreur de données à votre PC à l'aide du câble USB fourni. Consultez le
diagramme ci-dessous pour plus d'informations.
2. Attendez que votre ordinateur ait installé l'enregistreur de données. Au cours de cette
attente, un message ou une icône va s'acher dans la barre des tâches, vous indiquant
que le périphérique a été trouvé.
3. Exécutez le logiciel en cliquant sur la nouvelle icône PicoLog 6 sur votre bureau. PicoLog
6 va automatiquement détecter et identier votre enregistreur de données. Vous êtes
désormais prêt à démarrer l'acquisition de données.

1.1 Requisiti di sistema

1.2 Installazione del software
1. Andare su www.picotech.com/downloads, selezionare la serie e il modello del proprio

2.2 Intervalli di ingresso massimi

AVVERTENZA
Per evitare scosse elettriche, non cercare di misurare tensioni superiori all'intervallo di
misurazione sulla scala completa specicato.
I segnali che superano i limiti di tensione nella tabella sottostante sono deniti "tensioni
pericolose" dalle Norme EN 61010. Per evitare scosse elettriche, prendere tutte le precauzioni
di sicurezza necessarie quando si lavora su apparecchiature dove potrebbero essere presenti
tensioni pericolose.

AVVERTENZA
I registratori di dati Pico sono progettati solo per misurare o contattare tensioni basse come

Fare attenzione quando si usano convertitori di temperatura in prossimità di apparecchiature
di rete. Assicurarsi che il sensore non sia collegato accidentalmente a una tensione di rete:

2.3 Messa a terra
AVVERTENZA
Il collegamento a terra del registratore di dati attraverso il cavo USB ha nalità unica di
misurazione. Il registratore di dati non è dotato di una massa di sicurezza protettiva.
Non collegare mai l'ingresso di terra (telaio) ad alcuna fonte di energia elettrica. Per evitare
lesioni anche mortali, utilizzare un voltmetro per vericare che non sia presente una tensione
CA o CC signicativa tra l'ingresso della messa a terra del registratore di dati e il punto in cui si
desidera collegare lo strumento.
ATTENZIONE
L'applicazione di una tensione all'ingresso di terra può causare danni permanenti al
registratore di dati, al computer collegato e ad altre apparecchiature.
Per evitare errori di misura causati da una messa a terra errata, utilizzare sempre il cavo USB
ad alta qualità fornito in dotazione con il registratore di dati.
2.4 Ambiente
AVVERTENZA
Per evitare lesioni anche mortali, non utilizzare in ambienti bagnati o umidi né in prossimità di
gas o vapori esplosivi.
ATTENZIONE
Per evitare danni, utilizzare e conservare il registratore di dati in ambienti adatti.

Step 3: Collegare il tuo registratore di dati
Assicurarsi di aver già installato il software PicoLog prima di collegare il registratore di dati. Il
registratore di dati non funzionerà senza il software.
1. Collegare il registratore di dati al PC utilizzando il cavo USB in dotazione. Vedi lo schema
qui di seguito per ulteriori informazioni.
2. Aspettare che il computer installi il registratore di dati. Durante l’installazione l’utente
visualizzerà un messaggio o un’icona nella barra delle applicazioni che indica che è stato
trovato il dispositivo.
3. Avviare il software facendo clic sulla nuova icona PicoLog 6 sul desktop. PicoLog 6 rileva
e identica automaticamente il registratore di dati. Si è pronti ora per iniziare l’acquisizione
di dati.

2.5 Manutenzione del prodotto
Il prodotto contiene componenti non riparabili dall'utente. La riparazione, manutenzione e
taratura richiedono apparecchiature di test specializzate e devono essere effettuate soltanto da
Pico Technology o da un fornitore di servizi approvato. Tali servizi possono essere a pagamento,
se non coperti dalla garanzia.
AVVERTENZA
Per evitare lesioni anche mortali, non utilizzare il prodotto se sembra danneggiato in qualsiasi
modo e interrompere immediatamente l'uso se si rileva un funzionamento anomalo.
Pulire il registratore di dati con un panno morbido inumidito con una soluzione di sapone
o detergente delicato e acqua. Per evitare scosse elettriche, evitare l'ingresso di acqua
nell'involucro, che danneggia le parti elettroniche o l'isolamento interno.

WARNUNG
Um Stromschlaggefahr zu vermeiden, messen Sie keine Spannungen außerhalb der
angegebenen Messspanne.
Signale, die die Spannungsgrenzen in der nachstehenden Tabelle überschreiten, sind
gemäß EN61010 als „berührungsgefährliche Spannung“ deniert. Um Stromschlaggefahr
zu vermeiden, ergreifen Sie alle erforderlichen Vorsichtsmaßnahmen, wenn Sie an Anlagen
arbeiten, an denen berührungsgefährliche Spannungen vorhanden sein können.

WARNUNG
Die Datenlogger von Pico sind nur dafür ausgelegt, Niederspannungen im Sinne
der EU-Niederspannungsrichtlinie zu messen oder damit verbunden zu werden. Um
Stromschlaggefahr zu vermeiden, messen Sie keine Spannungen außerhalb der
Signalspannungsgrenzen nach EN 61010 oder der angegebenen Messspanne (je nachdem,
welcher Wert niedriger ist).
Um schwere oder tödliche Verletzungen zu vermeiden, darf der Datenlogger nicht direkt mit
dem Netzstrom verbunden werden oder daran anliegen.
Bei der Verwendung von Temperaturwandlern in der Nähe von Netzstromgeräten ist Vorsicht
geboten. Vergewissern Sie sich, dass der Fühler nicht aus Versehen an eine Netzspannung
angeschlossen wird. Dies kann zu Schäden am Wandler oder Ihrem Computer führen und das
Computergehäuse kann unter Strom gesetzt werden.
ACHTUNG
Wenn der Spannungsbereich des Überspannungsschutzes an einem beliebigen Anschluss
überschritten wird, kann dies zu dauerhaften Schäden am Datenlogger oder an anderen
angeschlossenen Geräten führen.
2.3 Erdung
WARNUNG
Der Erdungsanschluss des Datenloggers über das USB-Kabel dient nur zu Messzwecken. Der
Datenlogger ist nicht mit einer Schutzerdung ausgestattet.
Schließen Sie den Erdungseingang (Gehäuse) nicht an eine Stromquelle an. Um schwere oder
tödliche Verletzungen zu vermeiden, stellen Sie mit einem Voltmeter sicher, dass zwischen der
Erdung des Datenloggers und dem beabsichtigten Anschlusspunkt keine relevante Wechsel-
oder Gleichspannung anliegt.
ACHTUNG
Wenn Sie eine Spannung an den Erdungseingang anlegen, besteht die Gefahr einer
dauerhaften Beschädigung des Datenloggers, des angeschlossenen Computers und der
weiteren Ausrüstung.
Um Messfehler durch eine mangelhafte Erdung zu vermeiden, verwenden Sie stets das mit
dem Datenlogger gelieferte Qualitäts-USB-Kabel.
2.4 Umgebung
WARNUNG
Um schwere oder tödliche Verletzungen zu vermeiden, verwenden Sie das Gerät nicht in
feuchten Umgebungen oder in der Nähe von explosiven Gasen oder Dämpfen.

Step 3: Anschluss des Datenloggers
Vergewissern Sie sich, dass die PicoLog-Software vor dem Anschluss des Datenloggers
installiert wurde. Der Datenlogger funktioniert ohne die Software nicht.
1. Verbinden Sie den Datenlogger über das mitgelieferte USB-Kabel mit Ihrem PC. Weitere
Informationen nden Sie in der folgenden Abbildung.
2. Warten Sie, bis Ihr Computer den Datenlogger installiert hat. Währenddessen erscheint
eine Meldung oder ein Symbol in der Taskleiste, und meldet, dass das Gerät gefunden
wurde.
3. Starten Sie die Software durch Klicken auf das neue PicoLog 6-Symbol auf Ihrem Desktop.
PicoLog 6 erkennt und identiziert Ihren Datenlogger automatisch. Sie können jetzt mit der
Erfassung von Daten beginnen.

2.5 Pege des Produkts
Das Produkt enthält keine vom Benutzer zu wartenden Teile. Die Reparatur, Wartung und
Kalibrierung des Produkts erfordern spezielle Prüfsysteme und dürfen nur von Pico Technology
oder einem zugelassenen Dienstleister durchgeführt werden. Diese Leistungen können
gebührenpichtig sein, sofern sie nicht unter die Garantie fallen.
WARNUNG
Um schwere oder tödliche Verletzungen zu vermeiden, verwenden Sie das Produkt nicht, wenn
es jegliche Anzeichen von Beschädigung aufweist und stellen Sie den Gebrauch unverzüglich
ein, wenn es sich ungewöhnlich verhält.
Reinigen Sie den Datenlogger mit einem weichen Tuch und einer Lösung aus milder Seife oder
einem milden Reinigungsmittel und Wasser. Um Stromschlaggefahr zu vermeiden, darf kein
Wasser in das Gehäuse eindringen, da andernfalls die elektronischen Komponenten oder die
Isolierung im Inneren des Geräts beschädigt werden.
ACHTUNG
Der Datenlogger, die Anschlüsse und das Zubehör dürfen nicht manipuliert oder zerlegt
werden. Interne Schäden wirken sich auf die Leistung aus.
