What is Z-Wave?
Z-Wave is the international wireless protocol for communication in the Smart Home. This device is suited for use in the re ion mentioned in the Quickstart section.
Z-Wave ensures a reliable communication by reconfirmin every messa e (two-way communication) and
every mains powered node can act as a repeater for other nodes (meshed network) in case the receiver is
not in direct wireless ran e of the transmitter.
This device and every other certified Z-Wave device can be used together with any other certified
Z-Wave device regardless of brand and origin as lon as both are suited for the same frequency ran e.
If a device supports secure communication it will communicate with other devices secure as lon as this
device provides the same or a hi her level of security. Otherwise it will automatically turn into a lower level
of security to maintain backward compatibility.
For more information about Z-Wave technolo y, devices, white papers etc. please refer to www.z-wave.info.
Product Description
This device measures the three air quality parameters temperature, humidity and dew point an reports them to a central controller. Beside this, the device can
directly control roups of other Z-Wave devices on over- and undershootin a set temperature and/or humidity parameter. This can be used to establish control
loops for temperature and humidity. The device wakes up every 15 minutes to measure the values and it will send unsolicited reports when values chan e.
Additionally, the device will report all values on request.
The mold detector is actively monitorin the dan er of mold in a room based on the temperature and humidity and will issue alarm warnin s when critical air
conditions met. Wireless Alarm and red and a reen blinkin LED will indicate a mold condition. This local LED warnin function is also available when the device
is not included in any Z-Wave network and works stand alone.
Prepare for Installation / Reset
Please read the user manual before installin the product.
In order to include (add) a Z-Wave device to a network it must be in factory default state. Please make sure to reset the device into factory default. You can do
this by performin an Exclusion operation as described below in the manual. Every Z-Wave controller is able to perform this operation however it is recommended
to use the primary controller of the previous network to make sure the very device is excluded properly from this network.
Reset to factory default
This device also allows to be reset without any involvement of a Z-Wave controller. This procedure should only be used when the primary controller is inoperable.
Remove the cover, press the button for 5 seconds until it flashes reen. Release the button and press the button a ain until the blinkin stops.
Safety Warnin for Batteries
The product contains batteries. Please remove the batteries when the device is not used. Do not mix batteries of different char in level or different brands.

The POPP Mold Detector can be mounted in two ways.
1. use the enclosed adhesive tape. Clean the substrate carefully from rease and dirt to achieve optimum stren th of the adhesive areas.
2. use the enclosed screws and dowels to fix it to the wall or other surface.
Inclusion/Exclusion
On factory default the device does not belon to any Z-Wave network. The device needs to be added to an existing wireless network to communicate with the
devices of this network. This process is called Inclusion.
Devices can also be removed from a network. This process is called Exclusion. Both processes are initiated by the primary controller of the Z-Wave network. This
controller is turned into exclusion respective inclusion mode. Inclusion and Exclusion is then performed doin a special manual action ri ht on the device.
Inclusion
Tripple clickin the tamper button includes (adds) the device.
The LED flashes alternately red/ reen until inclusion is started and reen twice after completion.
Exclusion
Tripple clickin the tamper button excludes (removes) the device.
The LED flashes alternately red/ reen until inclusion is started and reen once after completion for confirmation.
Product Usa e
Open the POPP Mold Detector
To open the POPP Mold Detector, press the lock with your fin er and pull the housin cover upwards.
Tamper button
The tamper button is located on the side of the POPP Mold Detector. This button is also used for inclusion and exclusion.
Functionality
Once the device is powered up it will start monitorin the air parameters and warn of mold usin the local red and reen LED. All air parameters are measured
every 15 minutes. If there is a chan e by the value set in parameter 1 and 2, it is sent to the central unit. Pushin the button will force an immediate measurement
and the LEDs will indicate the dan er of mold
reen: no dan er of mold in the room
red: dan er of mold, on the windows to lower the humidity
The device contains three sensors with the followin accuracy measures:
Humidity: +/- 3 % on relative humidity, +/-1 % hysteresis
Temperature: 0 ... 65 °C +/- 1 Kelvin
Dew Point: 0 ... 65 °C +/- 1 Kelvin (calculated from other sensor values)
Besides the measured values the device will issue Z-Wave notifications on moisture (0x10).
Node Information Frame
The Node Information Frame (NIF) is the business card of a Z-Wave device. It contains information about the device type and the technical capabilities. The
inclusion and exclusion of the device is confirmed by sendin out a Node Information Frame. Beside this it may be needed for certain network operations to send
out a Node Information Frame. To issue a NIF execute the followin action: Tripple Click the tamper button
Communication to a Sleepin device (Wakeup)
This device is battery operated and turned into deep sleep state most of the time to save battery life time. Communication with the device is limited. In order to

communicate with the device, a static controller C is needed in the network. This controller will maintain a mailbox for the battery operated devices and store
commands that can not be received durin deep sleep state. Without such a controller, communication may become impossible and/or the battery life time is
si nificantly decreased.
This device will wakeup re ularly and announce the wakeup state by sendin out a so called Wakeup Notification. The controller can then empty the mailbox.
Therefore, the device needs to be confi ured with the desired wakeup interval and the node ID of the controller. If the device was included by a static controller this
controller will usually perform all necessary confi urations. The wakeup interval is a tradeoff between maximal battery life time and the desired responses of the
device. To wakeup the device please perform the followin action: A sin le click on the tamper button will wakeup the device.
Quick trouble shootin
Here are a few hints for network installation if thin s dont work as expected.
Make sure a device is in factory reset state before includin . In doubt exclude before include.1.
If inclusion still fails, check if both devices use the same frequency.2.
Remove all dead devices from associations. Otherwise you will see severe delays.3.
Never use sleepin battery devices without a central controller.4.
Dont poll FLIRS devices.5.
Make sure to have enou h mains powered device to benefit from the meshin6.
Association - one device controls an other device
Z-Wave devices control other Z-Wave devices. The relationship between one device controllin another device is called association. In order to control a different
device, the controllin device needs to maintain a list of devices that will receive controllin commands. These lists are called association roups and they are
always related to certain events (e. . button pressed, sensor tri ers, ...). In case the event happens all devices stored in the respective association roup will
receive the same wireless command wireless command, typically a 'Basic Set' Command.

Confi uration Parameters
Z-Wave products are supposed to work out of the box after inclusion, however certain confi uration can adapt the function better to user needs or unlock further
enhanced features.
IMPORTANT: Controllers may only allow confi urin si ned values. In order to set values in the ran e 128 ... 255 the value sent in the application shall be the
desired value minus 256. For example: To set a parameter to 200 it may be needed to set a value of 200 minus 256 = minus 56. In case of a two byte value the
same lo ic applies: Values reater than 32768 may needed to be iven as ne ative values too.
