Withthevehicleyoureceivetwomasterkeys
andoneauxiliarykey.Thetwomasterkeysfit
alllocks,theauxiliarykeydoesnotfittheglove
compartmentlock.
Vehicleswitha rearseatstoragecompart-
mentreceivetwoadditionalkeysforthecom-
partmentlock.
Themasterkeyshavea built-inflashlight.The
lightisonaslongasthecontactbuttonisde-
pressed.
Whenthelightbeginstofade,thebatterymust
bereplacedwithoneofthesametype.A dis-
chargedbatterycouldleakanddamageyour
clothing.
Byvirtueofthenewformatforthemaster
andauxiliarykeys,theunauthorizedmanu-
factureofkeysisalmostcompletelyelimi-
nated.Thismeanshowever,thatyouyour-
selfwillnotbeabletogetreplacementkeys
cut,youmustorderthemfromthemanufac-
turer.
Shouldyouneednewkeys,youmustgivethe
keynumber.Thisnumberisnotedonthekey
cardthatyoureceivewiththekeys.Keepthis
cardsomewheresafe,notinthevehicle.

ReplacingtheButtonBattery
forKeyLight
1.Carefullyliftthecoverinthekeyheadwith
afingernailora smallscrewdriver,andre-
movetheoldbattery.
2.Insertthenew1.5or1.4Voltbatterywith
theplus(+)sideup.
3.Pressthecoverbackintothekeyhead.
Alarmsystem
Ifyourcarisequippedwithanalarmsystem
youwillhavereceivedtwoS-keysinsteadof
thenormalmasterkeys.Thealarmsystem
canbeactivatedonlywiththeS-keybylock-
ingthedoorsorclosingtheluggagecompart-
mentdoorandturningthekeytotheleft.Ifthe
doorsarelockedwiththeauxiliarykeythen
thedoorwillbemechanicallylockedbutthere
isnocontacttoactivatethealarm.Thealarm
systemisswitchedoffautomaticallywhena
doorortheluggagecompartmentisopened
withtheS-key.Iftheluggagecompartment
doorisopenedwhilethealarmsystemis
switchedon,thekeymustbeturnedtotheleft
toreactivatethealarmsystem.Ifthedriver's
orpassengersidedoor,enginecompartment

Whilstthedoorsareclosedthewindowregu-
latorscanonly beoperatedwhilsttheignition
keyisinposition"1"or"2".
Iftheignitionkeyisinposition"0"orifithas
beenwithdrawnaltogether,thewindowscan
beopenedandclosedonlywhilstthedriver's
doorisopen.
hoodortheluggagecompartmentdooris
opened,oriftheignitionisswitchedonwhile
thealarmisactivateda speciallyprotected
sirenwillsoundforabout30seconds.The
enginecannotbestarted.
In theinterestof securitytheS-Keyshould
neverbelentouttootherpersons.Theauxi-
liarykeycanbeusedasa "workshop"keyand
canalsobehandedoveratfillingandservice
stations.
Doors
Thedoorsareopenedfromtheoutsideby
pullingtheinsetdoorhandle,andfrominside,
bypullinglever(C).
Accesstothestoragecompartmentsinthe
doorisobtainedbypressingthesafetyknob,
andtippingthearmrestoutwards.
Thewindowregulatorsareoperatedbythe
rockerswitchesinthecentreconsole.
Warning:Toavoidinjurytounknowingoccu-
pantsofthevehicle,(e.g.children)bythe
closingofthewindows,theignitionkeyshould
alwaysbewithdrawnwhenleavingthevehicle,
ifonly fora shortperiod.
Thefootwelllights(D)mountedforwardin
thelowerpartofthedoortrimcomeon,with
theswitchintheappropriateposition,when
thedoorortheluggagecompartmentdooris
opened.Eachlightcanalsobeswitchedonor
offindividuallybymeansoftheintegrated
switch.

Centraldoorlocking
Bymeansofthecentraldoorlockingsystem
bothdoorsareelectricallylockedorunlocked
byoperatingonelock.
Whenthedoorsarelockedthelockingbut-
tons(A)mustbefullyretracted.Ifthisisnot
thecasethelockonthatdoorisnotproperly
engaged.Re-openthedoor,closeitproperly
andre-lockit.
Onvehicleswithcentrallockingthepassenger
doorcanbelockedandunlockedbyturning
theknob(B)aswellaswiththekey.
Topreventbeingaccidentallylockedoutof
thevehicleitisimpossibletolockthedoor,
whileopen,eitherusingtheknob(B)or with
thekey.
Centrallockingisonlypossiblewhenboth
driverandpassengerdoorsareclosed.If
onedoorislockedbeforetheotherisclosed
itwillautomaticallyunlockwhentheotherdoor
isclosed.
Whentheignitionhasbeenswitchedonor
whentheignitionkeyisturnedtoposition1,
bothdoorscanbeelectricallylockedorun-
lockedbypressingthecentrallockingbutton
inthecenterconsole.Thelampinthecentral
doorlockingbuttonremainslitwhilstthesys-
temisactivated.
Whentheignitionisswitchedoffbutwiththe
keystillintheignitionlockthedoorscanbe
centrallylockedusingeitherthekeyorthe
knob(B).
Doorguardlights
Thedoorguardlightscomeonwhena door
ortheluggagecompartmentdoorisopened.

Interiorlights
Theinteriorlights,whichareindependentfrom
oneanother,comeon,withtheswitchinthe
appropriateposition,assoonasa doororthe
luggagecompartmentdoorisopened.
Theinteriorlightsgooutwhentheignitionis
switchedonorautomaticallyafterapprox.30
seconds.
Afterleavingthevehicle,theinteriorlightsgo
outautomaticallyapprox.30secondsafter
lockingthedoororoperatingthedoorlock.
Footwelllightinlowerpartofdoortrim
Theinteriorlightshavethefollowingswitch
positions:
a-lightcomesononlywhena doororluggage
compartmentdoorisopened
b-lightswitchedoffpermanently
c-lightswitchedonpermanently.
Luggagecompartmentlightintailgate
Theinteriorlightintheheadliningandthe
luggagecompartmentlightareswitchedon
andoffbytiltingthelampglass.Thefootwell
lightsareoperatedbytheswitchintegrated
inthelight.

Frontseats
Correctseatpositioningisimperativeforsafe
andalertdriving.Toenableindividualseat-
ingcomfort,twoswitcheseachwithfourfunc-
tionspermitinfinitelyvariableelectricalfore
andaftadjustmentandheightadjustmentas
wellasseatbackadjustment.
Tofindthemostsuitableseatposition,we
suggestthefollowingprocedure:
1.Operateswitchforforeandaftadjustment
untilyourlegisstraightwhenfullydepress-
ingtheclutchpedal.Youshouldnothowever
havetooutstretchyourfoottoreachthis
position.
2.Setthedesiredseatheightatfrontandrear.
3.Gripthetophalfofthesteeringwheel.Then
set thebackrestanglesothatwithalmost
fullyoutstretchedarmsyourshouldersstill
contactthebackrest.
4.Ifnecessary,correcttheforeandaftadjust-
mentonceagain.
Foreandaftadjustment

Seatheating
Theseatheatingisswitchedonbymeansof
switch(A)andheatstheseatandback.After
approx.15minutestheheatingisswitchedoff
automaticallybya time-lagrelay.
Theheatingcanalsobeswitchedoffbefore
thenbypressingtheswitchdownwards.
Steeringwheeladjustment
Afteradjustingyourseat,checktheposition
ofthesteeringwheelandyourviewofthein-
struments.
Foroptimumlegroomandviewoftheinstru-
ments,thesteeringwheelwiththeinstrument
consoleisheight-adjustable.Todothis,re-
leasetheleverundertheconsoleandclamp
againwheninthedesiredposition.

EmergencyoperationofseatSportsSeatBackrestlock
Foreandaftadjustmentandbackrestadjust-
mentarecarriedoutmanuallyonsportsseats.
Tomovetheseatbackwardsandforwards,
pulltheoutsidelockingleveratthefrontof
theseatupwards,moveseatintodesiredpo-
sition,releaseleverandensurethattheseat
engagessecurely.
Inordertoadjustthebackrest,pulltheinside
lockingleveratthefrontoftheseatupwards,
ShouldtheelectricalseatadjustmentsystemsetseattodesiredpositionandreleasetheThebackrestsaresecuredinpositiontostop
fail,foreandaftadjustmentoftheseatispos-lever.themtippingforwardduringbraking.Tore-
sibleusingtheAllenkeyinthetoolkit.UsetheWhenthereisnoloadonthebackrest,itwilllease,raisetheknobinthesidepartofthe
keytoturntheservomotoratthefrontonthealwaysbepushedforwardsbyspringforcebackrest.Thebackrestsarelockedinposition
seat.whentheleverispulled.whentheyaretiltedback.

Similarly,therearseatbackrestscanbere-
leasedandtippedforward,therebygiving
moreluggageroomintherear.
Rearwindowmirrors
Beforebeginninga journeyyoushoulden-
surethattherearviewmirrorsareproperly
adjusted.
Theinteriorrearviewmirrorisstuckdirectly
onthewindscreen.Thisenablesa veryshort
mirrorstemtobeusedtherebyobviatingvib-
ration,anda blurredimage.
Theelectricallyadjustablewingmirrorscan
besetwiththeswitchinthedriver'sdoor.The
passengerdoorwingmirrorisadjustableby
thesameswitch,bypressingtherockerswitch
infrontoftheadjusterswitchintotheappro-
priateposition.Whennecessary,thewing
mirrorscanalsobeadjustedbyhand.
Usetheluggagenettosecureyourluggage
tostop itslidingduringbrakingorinbends.
Thebracketsforattachingtheluggagenetare
ontheflooroftheluggagecompartment. Themirrorisadjustedtotheanti-dazzleposi-
tionbypressingtheleverunderneathit. Thewingmirrorsarealsoelectricallyheated whentherearwindowheatingisturnedon.

Safetybelts
YourPorscheisequippedwithsafetybelts
asstandardfittings.Alloccupantsofthecar
shouldwearsafetybeltsfortheirownsafety,
oneveryjourney.Toremindyouofthis,the
safetybeltwarninglightinthecentrecon-
solecomesoneverytimetheignitionisturned
onanddoesnotgooutuntilthebuckleonthe
driver'sseatbeltisinsertedintheanchorpoint.
Thelapandshoulderbeltsasfittedarenot
suitableforchildrenunder140cm(4ft.6 ins.)
tall.Tostopthemdistractingthedriver'satten-
tion,andfortheirownsafety,childrenunder
12yearsoldshouldalwaystravelintherear
seats.
Neveruseoneseatbeltfortwopeople.
Looseclothingaffectsthefitoftheseatbelt.
Youshouldthereforetakeyourcoatoff,be-
causea correctseatingpositionandfreedom
ofmovementareimportantforcomfortand
safety.
Donotrunthebeltoverfragileobjectsinyour
pockets,e. g. spectacles,pensor a pipeetc.,
asthesecouldrepresentadditionalhazards.
Pleaserememberwhendrivingabroadthat
insomecountriesthewearingofseatbelts
iscompulsory.
Puttingonthebelts
Decidethebestseatingpositionforyour-
self.Takeholdoftheslidingbuckleandpull
thebeltfirmlyoverchestandhips.Pressthe
buckleintotherespectiveanchorpointonthe
insideoftheseatuntilyouhearthatthelatch
islocked.Slidetheplasticloopuptothebuckle.
Avoidtwistsinthewebbingwhenputting
onthebelt.

Thelappartofthebeltmustalwaysstaytaut
overthepelvis.Afterputtingthebelton,you
shouldthereforepulltheshoulderpartofthe
beltupwardsasshowninthepicture.Now
andagainduringthejourney,youshouldre-
peatthisproceduretoensurethatthelapbelt
isalwaystaut.
Thelockingmechanismintheroll-upunitis
sodesignedthatbyrapidaccelerationor
braking,corneringordrivingonsteepinclines,
thebeltislocked.Thislockingsystemreacts
morequicklytotheretardationofthecarthan
toanypullonthebelt.
Releasingthebelts
Toreleasethebelt,presstheredbutton
marked"press".Thebucklethenspringsout
oftheanchorage,whetherthereisanyload-
ingonthebeltornot.
Makesurethatthebeltsarealwaysfullyre-
tractedwhennotinuse.Thiswillpreventthem
becomingdirtyandavoidunnecessarydam-
agetothebeltsthemselves.
Youshouldcheckyourseatbeltsregularly for
signsofdamagetothewebbing.Makesure
thatthelocksandanchoragepointsarein
goodcondition.Ifthebeltshavebeensub-
jectedtohighloadsorstretchedinanaccident,
havethemreplacedintheinterestsofyour
ownsafety.
Backseatsafetybelts
Thebackseatsareequippedwithautomatic
lapbelts.Donottwistthebeltwhenputtingit
on.Thebeltisreleasedbypressingthered
button.
Warning.Pleasedonotmakeanyalterations
oradditions.
Incaseofdoubtpleaseconsultyourauthor-

Footbrake Clutch
Handbrake
Thehandbrakeiscableoperatedtotherear
wheelsonly.Itisappliedbypullingthelever
upwards.
Toreleasethebrake,thelevermustbepulled
upwardsslightlywhilstpressingthebuttonin
theendoftheleveruntiltheratchetiscleared,
andthenlettingtheleverdownwards.
Thecentralwarninglightandthehandbrake
warninglightwillgooutwhenthebrakelever
isfullyreleased.(SeeAutomaticwarningunit.)
Toreducethepedaleffortnecessarywhen
braking,yourPorschehasa brakeservounit.
Thevacuumnecessarytooperatethisunitis
takenfromtheengineinletmanifold,when
theengineisrunning.
Pleasenotethatwitha defectiveservounit,
orwhenthevehicleisbeingtowedwiththe
engineturnedoff,thebrakingeffortrequired
isconsiderablyincreasedassoonasthe
vacuumreservoirisusedup.
Withproperlybledandfunctioningbrakes,the
freemovementofthebrakepedalwillremain
constant.Thisfreetravelbeforethebrakes
starttooperatecanbe20mm(0.8ins.).
Shouldthisfreetravelsuddenlybecomebigger,
it couldbe thatairhasenteredthebrakesys-
tem.Lowbrakefluidlevelisindicatedbythe
flashingofthecentralwarninglight(seeCent-
ralwarningunit).Inaddition,the"brakefluid"
labelintheright-handinstrumentclusterlights
up.
Duetothehydraulicoperationoftheclutch,
afreetravel oftheclutchpedalof2.5mmis
necessary.
Shouldthisfreetravelsuddenlybecome
bigger,itcouldmeana malfunctionofthe
clutch.Pleaseconsultyourworkshopfor
rectification.
