KNOW YOUR UNIT

PLAN AHEAD
WARNING: Inspect area before start-
ing unit, Remove all debris and hard objects
such as rocks, glass, wire, etc, that can rico-
chet, be thrown, or otherwise cause injury or
damage during operation.
• Always wear eye protection when operating,
servicing, or performing maintenance on unit.
Weadng eye protection will help to prevent
brush or debris from being thrown or dcochet-
ing into eyes and face which can result in
blindness and/or serious injury. Eye protec-
tion should be marked Z87,
• Wear hearing protection when using this
unit,
• Secure hair above shoulder length, Secure or
remove jewelry, loose clothing, or clothing
with loosely hanging straps, ties, tassels, etc.
They can be caught in moving parts,
• Stay alert. Do not operate unit when you are
tired, ill, upset, or ifyou are under the influence
of alcohol, drugs, or medication,
• Keep children, bystanders, and animals
away from work area a minimum of 30 feet
(10 meters) when starting or operating unit.
HANDLE FUEL WITH CAUTION
• Eliminate all sources of sparks or flame (in-
cluding smoking, open flames, or work that
can cause sparks) in the areas where fuel is
mixed, poured, or stored,
• Mix and pour fuel in an outdoor area; store
fuel in a cool, dry, well ventilated place; use
an approved, marked container for all fuel
purposes,
• Do not smoke while handling fuel or while
operating the unit.
• Do not fill fuel tank while engine is running.
• Make sure the unit is properly assembled
and in good operating condition.
• Avoid spilling fuel or oil. Wipe up fuel spills
before starting the engine.
• Move at least 10 feet (3 meters) away from
fuel and fueling site before starting engine,
• Always store gasoline in a container ap-
proved for flammable liquids.
OPERATE YOUR UNIT SAFELY

HANDS AWAY FROM BLADE-Blade
moves momentarily after the trigger is re-
leased. Do not attempt to clear away cut ma-
terial when the blade is in motion. Make sure
the switch is in the OFF position, the spark
plug wire is disconnected, and the blade has
stopped moving before removing jammed
material from the cutting blade. Do not grab or
hotd the unit by the cutting blade.
• inspect unit before each use for worn,
loose, missing, or damaged parts. Do not
use until unit is in proper working order.
• Keep outside surfaces free from oil and fuel.
• Never start or run engine inside a closed
room or building. Breathing exhaust fumes
can kill.
• Avoid dangerous environments. Do not use
in unventilated areas or where explosive
vapors or carbon monoxide build up could
be present.
• Do not overreach or use from unstable sur-
faces such as ladders, trees, steep slopes,
rooftops, etc. Keep firm footing and balance
at all times.
• Do not raise unit above your shoulders; the
cutting blade can come dangerously close
to your body.
• Always keep unit in front of your body. Keep
all parts of your body away from the cutting
blade.
• Keep the cutting blade and air vents free
from debris.
• Use only for jobs explained in this manual,
MAINTAIN YOUR UNIT PROPERLY
• Have al_ maintenance other than the rec-
ommended procedures described in the in-
struction manual performed by an autho-
rized service dealer.
• Disconnect spark plug before performing
maintenance except for carburetor adjust-
ments,
• Do not use a cutting blade that is bent,
warped, cracked, broken, or damaged in
any other way, Have worn or damaged
parts replaced by an authorized service
dealer,
• Use only recommended Poulan PRO@ cut-
ting blades and replacement parts; use of
any other parts may void your warranty and
cause damage to your unit.
• Empty fuel tank before storing the unit. Use
up fuel left in carburetor by starting engine and
letting it run until it stops.
• Hand carry the unit with the engine stopped
and the muffler and cutting blade away from
your body, preferably with the blade cover
installed.

SAFETY NOTICE: Exposure to vibrations
through prolonged use of gasoline powered
hand tools could cause blood vessel or nerve
damage in the fingers, hands, and joints of
people prone to circulation disorders or ab-
normal swelling, Prolonged use in cold
weather has been linked to blood vessel dam-
age in otherwise healthy people. If symptoms
occur such as numbness, pain, loss of
strength, change in skin color or texture, or
loss of feeling in the fingers, hands, or joints,
discontinue the use of this tool and seek
medicat attention, An anti vibration system
does not guarantee the avoidance of these
problems, Users who operate power tools on
a continual and regular basis must monitor
closely their physical condition and the condi-
tion of this tool.
SPECIAL NOTICE: This unit is equipped
with a temperature limiting muffler and spark
arresting screen which meets the require-
ments of California Codes 4442 and 4443. Atl
U.S. forest land and the states of California,
idaho, Maine, Minnesota, New Jersey, Ore-
gon, and Washington require by law that
many internal combustion engines be
equipped with a spark arresting screen. Ifyou
operate in a locale where such regulations ex-
ist, you are legally responsible for maintaining
the operating condition of these parts. Failure
to do so is a violation of the law. For normal
homeowner use, the muffler and spark arrest-
ing screen will not require any service. After
50 hours of use, we recommend that your
muffler be serviced or repiaced by an autho-
rized service dealer.
Examine parts for damage. Do not use dam-
aged parts.
NOTE: If you need assistance or find parts
missing or damaged, call 1-800-554-6723,
It is normal for the fuel filter to rattle in the
empty fuel tank.
Finding fuel or oil residue on muffler is normal
due to carburetor adjustments and testing
done by the manufacturer.

ON/OFF SWITCH
The ON/OFF SWITCH is used to stop the en-
gine. To stop the engine, move the switch to the
OFF position.
CHOKE
The CHOKE he_ps to supply fuel to the engine
to aid in cold starting. Activate the choke by
moving choke lever to the desired position. See
STARTING YOUR ENGINE for complete start-
ing information.
PRIMER BULB
The PRIMER BU LB removes air from the car-
buretor and fuel lines and fills them with fuel
This allows you to start the engine with fewer
putls on the starter rope. Activate the primer
bulb by pressing it and allowing it to return to
its original position.
THROTTLE TRIGGER
The THROTi-LE TRIGGER controls engine
speed. Squeeze the trigger for full speed opera-
tion; release it for idle speed.
WARNING: Muffler is very hot during
and after use. Do not touch the muffler or aF
low combustible material such as dry grass or
fuel to do so.
BEFORE STARTING ENGINE
_IWARNING: Be sure to read the fuel
information in the safety rules before you be-
gin. If you do not understand the safety rules,
do not attempt to fuel your unit. Call
1-800-554-6723.
FUELING ENGINE
_i WARNING: Remove fuel cap slowly
when refueling. HELPFUL TIP
To obtain the correct oil mix I
ratio, pour 3.2 ounces of
2-cycle synthetic oil into
one gaflon of fresh gas.
This engine is certified to operate on unleaded
gasoline. Before operation, gasoline must be
mixed with a good quality synthetic 2-cycle air-
cooled engine oil designed to be mixed at a ratio
of 40:1. PoulanANeed Eater brand synthetic oil
is recommended. A 40:1 ratio is obtained by
mixing 3.2 ounces (95 ml) of oil with 1 gallon (4
liters) of unleaded gasoline). DO NOT USE au-
tomotive oil or boat oil. These oils will cause en-
gine damage. When mixing fuel, follow instruc-
tions printed on oil container. Once oil is added
to gasoline, shake container momentariIy to as-
sure that the fuel is thoroughly mixed. Always
read and follow the safety rules listed under
HANDLE FUEL WITH CAUTION.
IMPORTANT
Experience indicates that alcohol Mended fuels
(called gasohol or using ethanol or methanol)
can attract moisture which leads to separation
and formation of acids during storage. Acidic
gas can damage the fuel system of an engine
while in storage. To avoid engine problems.
empty the fuel system before storage for 30
days or longer. Drain the gas tank, start the en-
gine and let it run until the fuel lines and carbure-
tor are empty. Use fresh fuel next season.
Never use engine or carburetor cleaner prod-
ucts in the fuel tank or permanent damage
may occur.
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
It is recommended that the engine not be
operated for longer than 30 seconds at full
throttle. Releasing the trigger and allowing
the engine to briefly return to idle speed (5 -
10 seconds) will be sufficient.

IMPORTANT POINTS
• Use the minimum throttle speed necessary
to effectively cut hedges for optimal hedge
trimmer performance.
• Never attempt to use this hedge trimmer to
cut hedges that have any branches with a
diameter larger than 5/8" (1.5 cm).

STOPPING YOUR ENGINE
• To stop the engine, move the ON/OFF
switch to the OFF position.
•If engine does not stop, move choke lever
to the FULL CHOKE position.
STARTING YOUR ENGINE
• Fuel engh_e. Move at least 10 feet (3 me-
ters) away from the fueling site.
• Remove the blade cover from the blade
before starting the unit.
• Hold the unit on the ground in the starting
position as shown. Support unit so the
blade is off of the ground and away from
trees, bushes, onlookers, etc.
Trigger
1. Move the ON/OFF switch to the ON posi-
tion.
2. Engage the throttle lock as follows:
• press the throttle lock-out;
• squeeze and hold throttle trigger;
• press and hold throttle lock, then
• release the throttle trigger
NOTE: Keep the throttle lock engaged until
the engine starts.
3. Slowly press the primer bulb 6 times.
4. Move the choke lever to the FULL CHOKE
position.

STARTING A COLD ENGINE (or a
warm engine after running out of
fuel)
jl_ WARNING: The cutting blade will be
moving once the throttle lock has been set
and the engine is started. Wear your protec-
tive equipment and observe all safety instruc-
tions.
5. Pull starter rope handle sharply until en-
gine sounds as if it is trying to run, but do
not pull rope more than 6 times.
6. Move the choke lever to the HALF
CHOKE position.
7. Pull starter rope sharply until the engine
runs, but no more than 6 pulls.
NOTE: If the engine doesn't start after 6 pulls
(at the HALF CHOKE position), check to
make sure the ON/OFF switch is in the ON
position. Move the choke lever to the FULL
CHOKE position and press the primer bulb 6
times; pull the starter rope 2 more times.
Move the choke lever to the HALF CHOKE
position and pull the starter rope until the en-
gine runs, but no more than 6 more pulls, if
the engine still doesn't start, it is probably
flooded. Proceed to STARTING A
FLOODED ENGINE.
8. Once the engine starts, allow the engine to
run 10 seconds, then move the choke lever
to the OFF CHOKE position. Allow the unit to
run for 30 more seconds at the OFF CHOKE
position before squeezing and releasing the
throttle trigger to release the throttle lock.
NOTE: if engine dies with the choke lever in
the OFF CHOKE position, move the
choke lever to the HALF CHOKE position
and pull the rope until the engine runs, but
no more than 6 pulls.

STARTING A WARM ENGINE
1. Move the ON/OFF switch to the ON posi-
tion.
2. Slowly press the primer bulb 6 times.
3. Move the choke lever to the HALF
CHOKE position.
4. Engage the throttle lock as directed in
STARTING A COLD ENGINE.
NOTE: Keep the throttle tock engaged until
the engine starts.
5. Pull starter rope sharpty until engine runs,
but no more than 5 pulls.
6. Allow the engine to run 10 seconds, then
move the choke tever to the OFF CHOKE
position.
7. Release the throttle lock by squeezing and
releasing the trigger.
NOTE: If engine has not started, pull starter
rope 5 more pulls. If engine still does not
run. it is probably flooded. Proceed to
STARTING A FLOODED ENGINE.
STARTING A FLOODED ENGINE
Flooded engines can be started by p_acing
the ON/OFF switch inthe ON position and the
choke lever in the OFF CHOKE position and
engaging the throttle lock as directed in the
STARTING A COLD ENGINE section; then.
pull the rope to clear the engine of excess
fuel. Starting could require pulling the starter
rope many times depending on how badly the
unit is flooded. If the unit still doesn't start, refer
to the TROUBLESHOOTING TABLE or call
1-800-554-6723.

INSPECT AND CLEAN UNIT AND
LABELS
• Before and after each use. inspect com-
plete unit for loose or damaged parts. After
each use, clean the unit and labels using a
damp cloth with a mild detergent.
• Wipe off unit with a clean dry cloth.

GENERAL RECOMMENDATIONS
The warranty on this unit does not cover items
that have been subjected to operator abuse
or negligence. To receive fult value from the
warranty, the operator must maintain unit as
instructed in this manual. Various adjust-
ments will need to be made periodically to
properly maintain your unit.

CHECK FOR DAMAGED OR
WORN PARTS
Contact an authorized service dealer for re-
placement of damaged or worn parts.
• ON/OFF Switch - Ensure ON/OFF switch
functions property by moving the switch tothe
OFF position. Make sure engine stops; then
restart engine and continue.
• Fuel Tank - Do not use unit iffuel tank shows
signs of damage or leaks.
• Gearbox - Do not use ifthe gearbox shows
signs of damage or leaks. After 50 hours of
use, we recommend that your gearbox be
serviced by an authorized service dealer.
Air Filter Screw %
Cleaning the air filter:
A dirty air filter decreases engine perform-
ance and increases fuel consumption and
harmful emissions. Always clean after every
5 hours of operation.
1. Clean the cover and the area around it to
keep debris from falling into the carburetor
chamber when the cover is removed.
2. Remove parts as illustrated.
NOTE: Do not clean filter in gasoline or other
flammable solvent. Doing so can create afire
hazard or produce harmful evaporative emis-
sions.
3. Wash the filter in soap and water.
4. Allow filter to dry.
5. Add a few drops of oil to the filter; squeeze
filter to distribute oil.
6. Replace parts.
INSPECT MUFFLER AND SPARK
ARRESTING SCREEN
WARNING: The muffler on this prod-
uct contains chemicals known to the State of
California to cause cancer.

As your unit is used. carbon deposits build up
on the muffler and spark arresting screen.
For normal homeowner use, however, the
muffler and spark arresting screen will not re-
quire any service. After 50 hours of use, we
recommend that your muffler be serviced or
replaced by your authorized service dealer.
CARBURETOR ADJUSTMENT
WARNING: Keep others away when
maMng idle speed adjustments. The blade
will be movh_g dudng most of this procedure.
Wear your protective equipment and observe
all safety precautions, When making adjust-
ments, use a screwdriver short enough to
keep your hands behh_d the handguard and
away from the blade. After makh_g adjust-
ments, the blade must not move at idle speed,
The carburetor has been carefully set at the
factory. Adjustments may be necessary if you
notice any of the foilowh_g conditions:
• Engine will not idle when the throttle is re-
leased.
• The blade moves at idle.
Keep others away when making idle speed
adjustments. Make adjustments with the unit
resting on a level surface free of debris that can
be caught in the hedge trimmer blade. Serious
injury to the operator and others can occur ifthe
carburetor is not properly adjusted. Keep all
parts of your body away from the blade and
muffler.
Idle Speed Adjustment
Allow engine to idle. Adjust speed until engine
runs without blade moving (idle too fast) or en-
gine stalling (idle speed too slow).
• Turn idle speed screw clockwise to in-
crease engine speed if engine stalls or dies.
• Turn idle speed screw counterclockwise to
decrease engine speed if the blade moves
at idle.
_WARNING: Recheck the idle speed
after each adjustment. The blade must not
move at idle speed to avoid serious injury to
the operator or others. Idle Speed Screw

BLADE ADJUSTMENT
The clearance between the cutting blades
must be adjusted periodically to maintain opti-
ma] performance and sharp cutting.

top side of the blade guide.

4. While holding each bolt in place with a
wrench, retighten the nuts.

NOTE: After adjustment, the washers be-
tween the bolt head and the blade should be
able to be turned by hand, but not loose
enough to move when the unit is tilted from
side to side.
CAUTION: if the clearance between the
cutting blades is set too wide, the blades will
not cut correctly, if the blades are adjusted too
tight, overheating may occur.
REPLACE SPARK PLUG
Replace spark plug each year to ensure the
engine starts easier and runs better. Set
spark plug gap at 0.025 h_ch (0.6 mm). Igni-
tion timing is fixed, nonadjustable.
1. Twist, then pull off spark plug boot.
2. Remove spark plug from cylinder and dis-
card.
3. Replace with Champion ROJ-6Y spark
plug and tighten securely with a 3/4 inch
(19 mm) socket wrench.
4. Reinstall the spark plug boot.
REPLACE FUEL FILTER
To replace fuel filter, drain unit by running it dry
of fuel, then remove fuel cap/retainer assem-
bly from tank. Pull filter from tank and remove
itfrom the fuel line. Install new fuel filter on fuel
line; reinstall parts.

• Store unit and fuel h_awell ventilated area
where fuel vapors cannot reach sparks or
open flames from water heaters, electric
motors or switches, furnaces, etc.
• Store unit with the blade cover installed.
Position unit so that any sharp object can-
not accidentally cause injury.
• Store unit and fuel well out of the reach of
children.
SEASONAL STORAGE
Prepare unit for storage at end of season or if
it will not be used for 30 days or more.
If your unit is to be stored for a period of time:
•Clean the entire unit.
• Store in a clean dry area.
• Clean all parts and check for damage.
Have damaged parts repaired or replaced
by an authorized service dealer,
• Keep all nuts, bolts, and screws tight.
• Lightly oil external metal surfaces, includ-
ing the blade.
• Install the blade cover.
To oil the blade, do the following:
• Stop the engine and allow blade to come to
a complete stop.
• Ensure ON/OFF switch is in the OFF posi-
tion.
• Disconnect the spark plug wire.
• Apply a light machine oil along the edge of
the top strap as shown.
FUEL SYSTEM
Under FUELING ENGINE in the OPERA-
TION section of this manual, see message la-
beled iMPORTANT regarding the use of ga-
sohol in your engine. Fuel stabilizer is an ac-
ceptable alternative in minimizing the formation
of fuel gum deposits during storage. Add stabi-
lizer to gasoline in fuel tank or fuel storage con-
tainer. Follow the mix instructions found on sta-
bilizer container, Run engine at least 5 minutes
after adding stabilizer,

ENGINE
• Remove spark plug and pour 1 teaspoon of
40:1,2-cycle engine oil (air cooled) through
the spark plug opening. Slowly pull the
starter rope 8 to 10 times to distribute oil.
• Replace spark plug with new one of recom-
mended type and heat range (see RE-
PLACE SPARK PLUG section).
• Clean air filter.
• Check entire unit for loose screws, nuts,
and bolts. Replace any damaged, broken,
or worn parts.
• At the beginning of the next season, use
only fresh fuel having the proper gasoline to
oil ratio.
OTHER
• Do not store gasoline from one season to
another.
• Replace your gasoline can if itstarts to rust.

engine for the periods of time listed below pro-
vided there has been no abuse, neglect, or
improper maintenance of your small off-road
engine. Your emission control system in-
cludes parts such as the carburetor and the
ignition system. Where a warrantable condi-
tion exists, ELECTROLUX HOME PROD-
UCTS, iNC., will repair your small off-road
engine engine at no cost to you. Expenses
covered under warranty include diagnosis,
parts and labor. MANUFACTURER'SWAR-
RANTY COVERAGE: If any emissions re-
lated part on your engine (as listed under
Emissions Control Warranty Parts List) is de-
fective or a defect in the materials or work-
manship of the engine causes the failure of
such an emission related part, the part will be

RANTY RESPONSIBILITIES: As the small
off-road engine engine owner, you are re-
sponsible for the performance of the required
maintenance listed in your instruction manu-

covering maintenance on your small off- road

UCTS, INC., cannot deny warranty solely for

Este motor est&`habilitado para funcionar con
gasolina sin plomo. Antes de eomenzar con el
usa, se deberA mezclar la gasolina con un
aceite de sintetico de buena calidad para mo-
tores de 2 tiempos enfriados a aire. Recom-
endamos el aceite de sint6tico de }a marca
Poulan/Weed Eater. Mezcle Ia gasolina con el
aceite en la proporci6n 40:1. (Se obtiene una
proporei6n de 40:1 mezclando 3,2 onzas de
aceite con cada gat6n de gasolina sin plomo).
NO USE aceite para autom6viles ni para
barcas. Estos aceites da_ar&`n el motor. AI
mezclar e_ combustible, siga las
instrucciones impresas en el recipiente de
aceite. Una vez aSadido el aceite a la
gasolina, agite el recipiente brevemente para
asegurarse que el combustible este
completamente mezclado. Lea siempre y
siga las reglas de seguddad que se
encuentran bajo MANEJE EL COMBUS-
TIBLE CON EXTREMe CUiDADO en la
seccion reglas de seguridad.
IMPORTANTE
La expedencia iedica que los combustibles
mezciados con alcohol (tos Ilamados gasohol o
los que tienen etanol o metanot) pueden atraer
la humedad, Ioque puede causar la separaci6n
y la formacion de &`cidos durante el almacenaje.
La gasoiina acida puede daSar el sistema de
combustible del motor durante el almacenaje.
Para evitar problemas con el motor, debera
vaciarse el sistema de combustible antes de
aimacenar el aparato per 30 dias o m&`s. Vacie

arranque hasta que el motor arranque,
pero no mrs de 6 tirones.
AVlSO: Si el motor no arranca despues del
sexto tir6n de la cuerda de arranque (con la
palanca del cebador en la posici6n HALF
CHOKE), verifique que el interruptor ON/
OFF esta en ia posici6n ON. Mueva la palan-
ca deI cebador a la posici6n FULL CHOKE y
oprima el bombeador 6 veces; tire firme-
mente del mango de la cuerda de arranque
otras 2 veces. Mueva la palanca de1cebador
a ia posici6n HALF CHOKE y tire de la cuerda
de arranque hasta que el motor se ponga en
marcha, pero no m&.s de 6 veces. Si el motor
no arranoa, probablemente se enouentre
ahogado. Proceda con la secci6n ARRAN-
QUE DE MOTOR AHOGADO.
8. Una vez que el motor arranca, permita que
el motor marche por 10 segundos, luego
mueva la palanca del cebador a la posici6n
OFF CHOKE. Permita que el motor marche
por otros 30 segundos con la palanca en la
posicion OFF CHOKE, entonces suelte el
cierre del acelerador apretando y luego soF
tando el gatillo acelerador.
AVlSO: Si el motor se cala con la paianca del
cebador en la posicion OFF CHOKE, mueva la
palanca a la posicion HALF CHOKE y tire de la
cuerda de arranque hasta que el motor se pon-
ga en march& pero no m&.sde 6 tirones.
PARA ARRANCAR CON EL MOTOR
CALIENTE
1. AsegLirese de que el interruptor ON/OFF
se encuentre en la posici6n ON.
2. Oprima lentamente el bombeador 6 veces.
3. Mueva la patanca del cebador a la posi-
ci6n HALF CHOKE.
4. Accione el cierre del acelerador como se
iinstruye en la seccion COMO ARRAN-
CAR UN MOTOR FRIO.
AVlSO: Mantenga el cierre del acelerador
accionado hasta que el motor arranca.
5. Tire firmemente de la cuerda de arranque
hasta que el motor se ponga en marcha,
pero no m&.s de 5 veces.
6. Permita que el motor marche por 10 se-
gundos, luego, mueva ta palanca det ce-
bador a la posici6n OFF CHOKE.
7. Suelte el cierre del acelerador apretando y
soltando el gatitlo acelerador.
AVlSO: Si el motor no se ha puesto en mar-
cha, tire de la cuerda de arranque otras 5
veces. Si el motor persiste sin arrancar, pro-
babtemente se encuentre ahogado. Proceda
con la seccion ARRANQUE DE MOTOR
AHOGADO.
ARRANQUE DE MOTOR AHOGADO
Un motor que se encuentra ahogado se podra
poner en marcha moviendo el interruptor
ON/OFF a la posici6n ON y la patanca del
cebador a la posici6n OFF CHOKE accione el
cierre del acelerador como se muestra en la
seccion PARA ARRANCAR CON MOTOR
FRIO; luego, tire de la cuerda de arranque para
aclarar el motor del exceso de combustible.
Que el motor se ponga en marcha podra
significar que se tire de la cuerda de arranque
muchas veces, dependiendo cu_.n ahogado se
encuentre el motor. Si el motor no arranca
despues de este procedimiento, vea la TABLA
DIAGNOSTICA o llame al 1-800-554-6723.

INSPECCIONE Y LIMPIE EL

nocivas. Umpie siempre el flltro de aire
despues de cada 5 horas de uso,
1. Limpie la tapa y la superficie alrededor de
la tapa para evitar que caiga suciedad o
deseehos en el carburador cuando se sa-
que ia tapa.
2. Retire las piezas como se ilustra.
AVISO: Para evitar peligro de incendio y de
emiciones evaporativas nocivas, no iimpie el fll-
tro de aire con gasolina ni cualquier otro sol-
vente inflammable,
3. Limpie el flltro con agua y jabon,
4. Permita que el filtro se seque,
5. Aplique varias gotas de aceite al filtro; ex-
prima el flltro para distribuir el aceite.
6. Reponga las piezas,
INSPECCIONE LA REJILLA ANTI-
CHISPA Y EL SILENCIADOR
_:_,ADVERTEN ClA: El silenciador en
este producto contiene las substancias
quimicas que el estado de California recon-
oce como causantes de c&`ncer,
A medida que se use el aparato, el silenciador
y la rejilla antichispas se van carbonizando.
Para el uso normal del dueSo de la casa, sin
embargo, el silenciador y la rejilla antichispa no
requerir&`n ning0n servicio. Despues de 50
horas de uso, recomendamos que al
silenciador se le de servicio o sea substituido

AJUSTE AL CARBURADOR
_'ADVERTENCIA: Mantengaaotras
personas alejadas de la zona en donde se en-
cuentre haciendo ajustes de marcha lenta. La
cuchilla se mover&, durante la mayor parte de
este procedimiento. Use su equipo protector y
observe todas las precauciones de seguridad,
AI hacer ajustes, utilice un destorniHador corto
para mantener sus manos detras del protector
de mano y lejos de la cuchilla. Despues de final-
izar con el procedimiento de ajuste, la cuchilla
deber&`n parar de moverse mientras el motor se
encuentra a la velocidad de marcha lenta.

El carburador ha sido ajustado cuidadosa-
mente en la f&.brica. PosiMemente sea nece-
sario hacer ajustes si se nota cualquiera de
las siguientes condiciones:
• El motor no funciona en marcha lenta cuan-
do se suelta el acelerador.
• La cuchilla se mueve en marcha lenta.
Mantenga a otras personas alejadas de la zona
en donde se encuentre haciendo ajustes de
marcha lenta. Haga los ajustes mientras el
aparato descansa en una superficie piana libre
de escombros que puedan enredarse en la cu-
chilla de la recortadora de setos. Si el carbura-
dot no se ajusta de forma apropiada puede cau-
sat graves heridas al usuario u otras personas.
Mantenga todas las partes de su cuerpo aleja-
das de la ouchilla y del silenoiador.
Marcha Lenta
Deje el motor en marcha lenta. Ajuste _as revo-
luciones hasta que el motor se mantenga en
marcha sin queet cuchiIla se muevan (la mar-
cha lenta es demasiado) o que el motor se aho-
gue (ta marcha lenta es demasiado lenta).
• Gire el tornillo de marcha lenta hacia la dere-
cha para aumentar las revoluciones si el mo-
tor se ahoga o se par&
• Gire el tornillo de marcha lenta hacia la iz-
quierda para reducir las revoluciones si la
cuchilta permanecieran moviendose mien-
tras el motor se encuentra en marcha leeta.
ADVERTENCIA: Vuelva a verificar
la marcha lenta despues de cada ajuste. La
cuchilia no deberan moverse cuando el motor
se encuentra en marcha lenta para asi evitar
graves heridas al usuario o a otras personas.

AVlSO: Despues del ajuste, las araedelas
entre ia cabeza del perno y ia cuchiHa deben
de dar vuelta a mano, pero no debe soltar
bastante para moverse cuando el aparato se
inclina de lado a lado.
PRECAUCION: Si la separacion entre las
cuchillas de torte est&.n demasiado separa-
das, las cuchillas no cortar&.n correctamente.
Si las cuchiHas se ajustan demasiado apreta-
das, ei recalentamiento puede ocurrir.
CAMBIE LA BUJIA
Debera cambiarse la bujia anualmente para
asegurarse que el motor arranque facilmente
y tenga un mejor rendimiento. Ajuste la

separaci6n de tos electrodos a 0,6 mm (0,025
de pulgada). EI encendido es fijo e inalterable.
1. Gire y saque la cubierta de la bujia.
2. Retire ta bujia del cilindro y desechela.
3. CAmbieIapor unabujiaOhampion RCJ-6Yy
ajuste firmemente ta bujia nueva con una
Ilave de cubo de 19 mm (3/4 de pulgada).
4. Instale nuevamente la cubierta de la bujia.
CAMBIE EL FILTRO DE
COMBUSTIBLE
Para cambiar el filtro de combustible, vacie por
completo el tanque de combustible, entonces,
remueva Ia tapa Y retentor del tanque. Tire del
filtro en el tanque y remuevalo de la linea de
combustible. Instale un filtro de combustible
nuevo en la linea de combustible y vuelva a
instalar las piezas.

_l_ ADVERTENCIA: Realice los
siguientes pasos despues de cada uso:
•Permita que el motor se enfrie y fije bien el
aparato antes de guardarlo o transportarlo.
• Guarde el aparato y el combustible en un
lugar bien ventilado donde los vapores del
combustible no puedan entrar en contacto
con chispas ni llamas abiertas
provenientes de calentadores de agua,
motores o interruptores electricos,
catefactores centrales, etc.
• Guarde el aparato con todos los
protectores en su lugar y col6quelo de
modo que las piezas filosas no puedan
causar heridas por accidente.
• Guarde et aparato yet combustible enun
lugar seguro y completamente fuera del
alcance de los niSos.
ESTACIONAL ALMACENAJE
Prepare el aparato para almacenarlo al final
de la temporada o si no Io va a usar por mas
de 30 dias.
Siva a almacenar el aparato durante un
periodo largo de tiempo:
• Limpie el aparato por completo.
• Almacene en un Area Iimpia y seco.
• Limpie todas 1as piezas y verifique que no
haya da{_adas sean reparadas o reempla-
zadas por su distribuidor autorizado del
servicio.
• Mantenga todas las tuercas, pernos y tor-
nillos firmemente apretados.
• Aplique una peque[_a cantidad de aceite a }as
superficies externas metAlicas, inclusive la
cuchilla.
• Instale la cubierta de la cuchilla.
Para aplicar aceite a la ¢uchilla, haga Io si-
guiente:
• Detenga el motor y permita que la cuchilla
se detenga por completo.
• AsegOrese de que el interruptor ON/OFF
esta en posici6n OFR
• Desconecte el cable de la bujia.
• Aplique una peque[_a cantidad de aceite de
maquina alrededor del borde de la banda
superior como se ilustra.
SISTEMA DE COMBUSTIBLE
Vea el mensaje marcado coma IMPORTANTE,
que se refiere al uso de combustibles con
mezcla de alcohol en su aparato, en la secci6n
de USO, bajo ABASTECIMIENTO DEL
MOTOR en este manual.
Los estabilizadores de combustible son una al-
ternativa aceptabie para minimizar la formacion
de depositos de goma durante el almacenaje.
A[1ada estabilizador a la gasoIina en el tanque
de combustible o en el recipiente para
almacenar el mismo. Siga las instrucciones de
mezcla que se encuentran impresas en el
envase. Ponga etmotor en marcha y dejelo en
marcha por unos 5 minutos despues de haberle
puesto estabiIizador.
INFORMACION UTIL

MOTOR
• Retire la bujia y vierta una cucharadita de
aceite 40:1 para motores a 2 tiempos
(enfriados a aire) por la abertura para la bujia.
Lentamente, tire de la cuerda de arranque de
8 a 10 veces para distribuir el aceite.

• Cambie la bujia por una nueva det tipo y de la
gamade caIor recomeedados (yea la secci6n
CAMBIE LA BUJIA).
• Umpie el filtro de aire.
• Examine toda el aparato para verificar que no
haya tornillos, tuercas ni pemos sueltos.
Cambie todas tas piezas dafladas,
quebradas o gastadas.
• AI principio de la pr6xima temporada, use
exclusivameete combustible fresno con la
proporcion correcta de gasolh_a a aceite.
OTROS
• No guarde la gasolina de una ternporada a
la proxima.
• Cambie el recipiente de gasolina si este se
empieza a oxidar.
