SAvoid dangerous environments. Do not use
in unventilated areas or where dust or explo-
sive vapors can build up.
STo reduce the risk of electrical shock, useex-
tension cords specifically marked as suitable
foroutdoorappliances. Theelectrical ratingof
thecordmust notbe less thanthe rating ofthe
unit. The cord must be marked with the suffix
“W-A” (in Canada, “W”). Make sure your ex-
tension cord is in good condition. Inspect ex-
tension cord before use and replace if dam-
aged. An undersized extension cord will
cause adrop inlinevoltageresultinginloss of
power and overheating. If in doubt, use the
next heavier gauge. The smaller the gauge
number, the heavier the cord.
SDo not use multiple cords.
SThe powerhead may have a polarized plug
(one blade is wider than the other); if so, itwill
require the use of a polarized extension cord.
The appliance plug will fit into a polarized ex-
tensioncordonlyoneway. Iftheplugdoes
not fit fully into the extensioncord, reverse the
plug. If the plug still does not fit, obtain a cor-
rect polarized extension cord. A polarized ex-
tensioncordwillrequiretheuseof apolarized
wall outlet. This plug will fit into the polarized
wall outlet only one way. If plug does not fit
fully into the wall outlet, reverse the plug. If it
still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician
to install theproper wall outlet. Do notchange
the equipment plug, extension cord recep-
tacle, or extension cord plug in any way.
SDo not attemptto repair unit. Inspect the insu-
lation and connectors on the powerhead and
extension cord before each use. If there is
any damage, do not use until damage is re-
paired by your authorized service dealer.
SDo not pull or carry by cord; do not use cord
as a handle, close a door on cord, or pull cord
around sharp edges or corners. Keep cord
away from heated surfaces. Do not unplug by
pulling on cord. To unplug, graspthe plug, not
the cord.
SDo not use the powerhead if the switch does
not turn the unit on andoff properly. Have the
unit repaired by your authorized servicedeal-
er.
SKeep theextension cord clearof operator and
obstacles at all times. Donotexpose cords to
heat, oil, water, or sharp edges.
SAvoid any body contact with any grounded
conductor, such as metal fences, or pipes, to
avoid the possibility of electric shock. Don’t
handle plug or unit with wet hands.
SDo notusewith damagedcordorplug. Ifpow-
erhead is not working as it should, has been
dropped, damaged, left outdoors, or dropped
into water, return it to your authorized service
for repair.
SGround Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI)
protection shouldbeprovided onthe circuit or
outlet to be used for the powerhead. Recep-
tacles are available having built-in GFCI
protection and may be used for this measure
of safety.
Your powerhead should be double insulated
tohelpprotectagainstelectricshock. Double
insulation construction consists of two sepa-
rate “layers” of electrical insulation instead of
grounding. Tools and appliances built with a
double insulation system are not intendedto
be grounded.Safety precautionsmust beob-
served when operating any electrical tool.
The double insulation system only provides
addedprotectionagainstinjury resultingfrom
an internal electrical insulation failure.
WARNING: All repairs to an electric
powerhead,includinghousing,switch,motor,
etc.,mustbediagnosedandrepairedbyqual-
ified service personnel. Replacement parts
foradoubleinsulatedappliancemustbeiden-
tical to the parts they replace. A double insu-
lated appliance is marked with the words
“double insulation” or “doubleinsulated”. The
symbol (square within a square) may also
be marked on the appliance. Failure to have
the unit repaired by your authorized service
dealer can cause the double insulation con-
struction to become ineffective and result in
serious injury.
UNIT/MAINTENANCESAFETY
WARNING: Disconnect powerhead
spark plug (or disconnect powerhead from
power source) before performing mainte-
nance.
SInspect entire unit before each use. Replace
damaged parts. Check for fuel leaks. Make
sure all fasteners are in place and securely
fastened.
SMaintain unit according to recommended pro-
cedures.
SThrow away blades that are bent, warped,
cracked, broken, or damaged in any other
way. Replace parts that are cracked,
chipped, or damaged before using the unit.
SUse only recommended Poulan PRO!
parts and accessories. Never use wire,
wire rope, string, flailing devices, etc.
SBe sure blade stops turning when engine
idles (see CARBURETOR ADJUST-
MENTS section of powerheadmanual).
SRemove the blade before making carburetor
adjustments. Hold the unit by hand. Do not
make carburetor adjustments from the blade
side of the unit.
SKeep others away when making carburetor
adjustments.
SNever start the unit with theclutch housing re-
moved. The clutch can fly offand cause seri-
ous injury.
SHave all maintenance and service not ex-
plained in this manual performedby anautho-
rized service dealer.
SIf blade strikes a foreign object, follow these
steps: stop unit and disconnect spark plug
wire (or disconnect from power source), in-
spect fordamage,and repair any damagebe-
fore resuming operation of the unit.
