The SE2000BX Static Exciter is designed to
replace most electronic, saturable reactor and
rotary exciters used on slip ring or rotor fed
electric generators. The SE2000BX offers
unique features such as a remote mounted
control panel and easy serviceability in the
field. The input power and voltage sensing
for the SE2000BX are taken directly from the
generator AC stator and rectified into a
controllable DC input to the main generator
rotor. The SE2000BX is a complete static
exciter that includes the voltage regulator,
power fusing, surge suppression, build up
module and connection terminals. Optional
devices are offered for the SE2000BX such
as an interface card, which allows the
SE2000BX to be controlled with power factor
controllers and other types of genset and PLC
controllers. The SE2000BX has provisions
for parallel operation.

The SE2000BX is a complete static exciter assembly that is ready for installation.
The SE2000BX is designed for simple installation and the voltage regulator
assembly is designed so that it can be remotely located for safety and operator
convenience. The SE2000BX should be located in a dry and clean area with free
airflow over the rectifier section.
Installation Instructions:
Only professional electrical generator service technicians
should install this equipment! Wear safety gear such as eye and
face protection and use high voltage blankets and gloves when
working on exposed electrical equipment that could cause
electrocution or personal injury! Do not operate this generator
at speeds lower than synchronous speed with the static exciter
energized!
1. Unpack the SE2000BX from its shipping container and inspect the unit for
shipping damage or loose parts.
2. Carefully read the installation instructions before attempting installation.
3. Check generator slip rings and brushes for proper contact and ring condition.
4. Mount exciter onto a cabinet or housing. You can mount the regulator control
assembly in another location for safety and ease of operation.
5. Install 190 to 240vac single phase to the AC1 and AC2 terminals of the static
exciter (Fig A). It is highly recommended that a disconnect switch or
breaker is placed between the generator stator and the static exciter for
emergency purposes!
6. Install the F+ and F- wiring to the F+ and F- terminals located on the bus bar
assemblies of the static exciter (Fig A).
7. Connect up wiring to TB3 as shown in the following wiring diagrams (Fig B and
C).
8. Perform a complete final check of the wiring of this static exciter before
going to the next step!
9. Turn the regulator off/on switch to off.
10. Start prime mover and bring up to design speed.
11. Turn run/idle switch to run or on.
12. Set up the voltage regulator as per the regulator setup specifications supplied
with this static exciter (XR500D Universal Voltage Regulator). This static
exciter is shipped set up for 208vac @ 60hz. If the voltage is pulsing, it
possibly could mean that the build up relay is plugging. This plugging can
be corrected by raising the internal voltage adjustment on the XR500D until
the voltage begins to rise and pulls in the build up relay (about 200vac).
13. Set voltage to your specification and observe for at least 10 minutes.
14. Apply load.

*The SE2000BX static exciter has a removable control panel located below the
main rectifier assembly. It is recommended that this panel be mounted in a
location away from the main exciter assembly for safety and operator use. The
relocation should be as close to the exciter assembly as possible.

Generator voltage should droop during starting of an inductive load, if it rises, reverse the
X and Y connections. Always close the Unit/Parallel switch during non-parallel operation
of the generator. The current transformer must be totally isolated from all other circuitry
of the generator, instrumentation panels or controls.
