GENERAL SAFETY RULES
Safety is a combination of common sense, staying alert, and knowing how your string trimmer works.
SAVE THESE SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS.
WARNING: Do not operate this unit until you read this instruction manual for safety,
operation and maintenance instructions. Failure to follow all instructions listed below may
result in electric shock, fire, and/or serious personal injury.
WORK AREA SAFETY
Don’t use trimmer in rain, damp or wet locations. Do not operate trimmer in gaseous or explosive
atmospheres. Motors in these tools normally spark, and the sparks might ignite fumes.
Check the work area before each use. Remove all objects such as rocks, broken glass, nails, wire, or
line which can be thrown or become entangled in the machine.
Keep bystanders away . All visitors and pets should be kept a safe distance away from the work area.
ELECTRICAL SATETY
Grounding instructions
IN THE EVENT OF A MALFUNCTION OR BREAKDOWN, grounding provides the path of least
resistance for electric current and reduces the risk of electric shock. This tool is equipped with an electric
cord that has an equipment grounding conductor and a grounding plug. The plug MUST be plugged into
a matching outlet that is properly installed and grounded in accordance with ALL local codes and
ordinances.
DO NOT MODIFY THE PLUG PROVIDED. If it will not fit the outlet, have the proper outlet installed
by a licensed electrician.
IMPROPER CONNECTION of the equipment grounding conductor can result in electric shock. The
conductor with the green insulation (with or without yellow stripes) is the equipment grounding
conductor. If repair or replacement of the electric cord or plug is necessary, DO NOT connect the
equipment grounding conductor to a live terminal.
CHECK with licensed electrician or service personnel if you do not completely understand the grounding
instructions, or if you are not sure if the tool is properly grounded.
USE ONLY THREE-WIRE EXTENSION CORDS that have 3-pronged plugs and outlets that accept the
tool's plug as shown in Fig. A. Repair or replace a damaged or worn cord immediately.
CAUTION: In all cases, make certain the outlet in question is properly grounded. If you are not sure if it
is, have a licensed electrician check the outlet.

6
WARNING: Do not expose to rain or use in damp locations.
Guidelines for using extension cords
Make sure your extension cord is in good condition. When using an extension cord, be sure to use one
heavy enough to carry the current your product will draw. An undersized cord will cause a drop in line
voltage resulting in loss of power and overheating. The table below shows the correct size to be used
according to cord length and nameplate ampere rating. If in doubt, use the next heavier gauge. The
smaller the gauge number, the heavier the cord.
Minimum Gauge for Extension Cords (AWG)
(When using 120 V only)
Make sure your extension cord is properly wired and in good condition. Always replace a damaged
extension cord or have it repaired by a qualified person before using it.
Protect your extension cords from sharp objects, excessive heat and damp or wet areas.
Use a separate electrical circuit for your tools. This circuit must not be less than a #12 wire and should be
protected with a 15 A time-delayed fuse. Before connecting the motor to the power line, make sure the
switch is in the OFF position and the electric current is rated the same as the current stamped on the motor
nameplate. Running at a lower voltage will damage the motor.
WARNING: This tool must be grounded while in use to protect the operator from electric
shock.
PERSONAL SAFETY
All visitors, children and pets should stay at a safe distance from the work area.Keep bystanders
away.
Stay alert. Watch what you are doing. Use common sense. Do not operate string trimmer when you
are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medications.
Use right appliance. Do not use an appliance for any job except that for which it is intended.
Don’t wear loose clothing or jewelry. Wear protective hair covering to contain long hair. They can be
caught in moving parts. Use of rubber gloves and substantial footwear is recommended when
working outdoors.
Wear safety glasses with side shields or goggles that are marked to comply with ANSI Z87.1
standard when operating this product. Use face or dust mask if environment is dusty.

account the working conditions and the work to be performed. Use of the power tool for operations
different from those intended could result in a hazardous situation.
Save these instructions. Refer to them frequently and use them to instruct others who may use this
tool. If you lend this tool to someone else, also lend them these instructions.
SERVICE
Tool service must be performed only by qualified repair personnel. Service or maintenance
performed by unqualified personnel could result in a risk of injury.
When servicing a tool, use only identical replacement parts. Follow instructions in the Maintenance
section of this manual. Use of unauthorized parts or failure to follow Maintenance Instructions may
create a risk of electric shock or injury.
SPECIFIC SAFETY RULES FOR ELECTRIC STRING TRIMMER
Only operate trimmer in daylight or good artificial light.
When being used as an Edger, stones, pieces of metal and other objects can be thrown out at high
speed by the line. The tool and guard are designed to reduce the danger. However, the following
special precautions should be taken: MAKE SURE that other persons and pets are at least 100 feet
(30m) away.
Use only the manufacturer’s 0.065 in. diameter replacement line in the cutting head. Do not use any
other cutting attachment, for example, metal wire, rope, or the like. To install any other brand of
cutting head to this string trimmer can result in serious personal injury.
Never operate unit without the grass deflector in place and in good condition.
Check damaged parts. Before further use of the tool, a guard or other part that is damaged should be
carefully checked to determine that it will operate properly and perform its intended function. Check
for alignment of moving parts, binding of moving parts, breakage of parts, mounting and any other
conditions that may affect its operation. A guard or other part that is damaged must be properly
repaired or replaced by an authorized service center to avoid risk of personal injury.
Never use blades, flailing devices, wire, or rope. Unit is designed for string trimmer use only. Use of
any other accessories or attachments will increase the risk of injury.
Keep the air vents clean and free of debris to avoid overheating the motor. Clean after each use.
Stop the unit and disconnect the power source when not in use. Carry the unit with the motor
stopped.
Do not use the string trimmer with any type of accessory or attachment. Such usage might be
hazardous.
Risk of cut. Keep hands away from the line. Keep both hands on handles when power is on.
Do not attempt to remove cut material or hold material to be cut when lines are moving. Make sure
trimmer switch is off when clearing jammed material from guard. Do not grasp the guard or lines
when picking up or holding the trimmer.
Do not force trimmer. It will do the job better and with less likelihood of a risk of injury at the rate for
which it was designed.
When not in use, the string trimmer should be stored indoors in a dry and high or locked-up place, out
of reach of children.

CUTTING INSTRUCTIONS
Basic cutting procedure
Wear non-slip gloves for maximum grip and protection.
For the best cutting action against walls, fences and in high grass, move trimmer slowly so grass is cut
WITH THE TIP of the high speed nylon line.
Avoid running trimmer with hub in contact with ground. Trim only when grass and weeds are dry.
NOTE: As the weather becomes cooler, the tendency for the nylon line to break becomes greater. DO
NOT USE WHEN TEMPERATURE IS BELOW 50 degrees F.
Cut tall grass from top down. Hold the trimmer with your right hand on the rear handle and your left
hand on the front handle. Trimmer should be held at a comfortable position with the rear handle about hip
height.
WARNING: Always hold trimmer away from body. Any contact with the string trimmer
cutting head while operating can result in serious personal injury.
WARNING: Do not trim near electrical wires.
WARNING:Do not operate a string trimmer in a tree, on a ladder, or on a scaffold; this is
extremely dangerous.
Trimming instructions
Angle unit as shown (See fig.5).
Slowly swing trimmer side to side as shown (See fig.6).
To convert for maintenance edging, turn off the tool.
Unplug the string trimmer. Pull up shaft locking collar
and turn handle end counterclockwise. Release edging
shaft locking collar when handle has been rotated 180°
and locks into place (See fig.7).
Rotate the wire edge guide forward and down into place
before edging.
To operate as a maintenance edger, position trimmer
above sidewalk as shown (See fig.8).
Return to trimming position by turning the tool off, push
in direction of arrow and rotate the trimmer head counter
clockwise until it stops. When using the tool in the
trimmer mode you may choose to fold the wire edge
guide up out of the way.
Advancing lines

spool. Wind the first line around the upper part of the spool
clockwise, as shown by the arrows on the spool. Place line in
the
slot on spool, leaving about 6 in. extended beyond the slot. Do
not overfill. After winding the line, there should be at least 1/4
in.
between the wound line and the outside edge of the spool.
