YourAPS-20BVehicle AlarmSystemhasmany featuresandavailable optionssomeofwhich
mustbeselected at time of installation. For your reference,the list on the back page ofthis
manual shows what features and options have been installed with this particular system.
Consultyourinstallingdealer for options that may have been installed andarenotlisted.
ARMINGTHE SYSTEM- ACTIVE
1.Turnthe engine off, exit the vehicle andcloseall doors.
2.Pressandreleasethelockbuttonofyourkeychaintransmitteronetime.
The parking lights will flash once, the siren will chirp once, and the dash mounted LED will
beginto flashslowlyconfirming thesystemisarmed. Ifyouhavetheoptionaldoorlock/unlock
circuitinstalled,thedoorswill also lock.
SILENTARMING -ACTIVE
1.Turnthe engine off, exit the vehicle andcloseall doors.
2.Press and hold the lockbutton of your keychain transmitter for two seconds.
The parking lights will flash once and the dash mounted LED will begin to flash slowly
confirmingthesystem is armed. The siren will not chirp. If youhavethe optional door lock/
unlockcircuitinstalled,thedoorswilllock.
ARMINGTHE SYSTEM- PASSIVE (AUTOMATIC)
Ifthepassivearmingfeaturehas been selected:
Turntheengine off, exit the vehicle and close alldoors.
The dash mounted LED will immediately begin to flash rapidly indicating that the 30 second
passivearming timer hasbegun. IftheLEDdoes not begintoflashrapidly,then you haveleft
adoor, hood or trunk ajar. Closingthisentrypointwillallowthearmingcycletobegin. Ifany
entrypoint isopenedduringthe 30 secondarmingcycle, arming willbesuspended. When all
entrypointsareclosed,the arming cycle will begin again. At the end of the30seconds,the
parkinglights will flashonce,thesirenwill chirp onceandthedash mounted LEDwillbeginto
flashslowlyconfirming the systemisarmed. Ifthesiren did notsoundwhenarming,then the
chirps have been turned off. Please refer to the section titled "Eliminating the Arm/Disarm
Chirps" later in this manual. Passive door locking is a selectable feature. If you have the
optionaldoor lock/unlockcircuitinstalled,the doorsmayormay notlockpassivelydependent
uponthe setup duringinstallation.
PROTECTIONWHILETHESYSTEMISARMED:
Whenever the system is armed, opening any protected entry point, (i.e.; hood, trunk, or
doors),will cause thealarmtotrigger immediately. Thesirenwillsound andtheparkinglights
willflashfor 30 seconds, thenstopandresetto continue to monitorallprotectedentrypoints.
Ifthethiefhappenedtoleavetheentrypointopen,thesystemwillsoundforsixconsecutive
30secondcyclesthenshutdownandreset,isolating the triggered zone, while continuing to
monitorandprotectall other zones.
Whenever the system is armed, the dash mounted LED will slowly flash. This serves as a
visualdeterrentto a potentialthief. ThisLEDisa very lowcurrentlightemittingdiode and will
notcausethe battery to drain even ifleft unattended for long periods oftime.
Ifthe
optional shocksensorisinstalled,anystrong impact to thevehiclewillcausethe shock

detectorto trigger the alarm when armed. Ifthe optional 2-stageshock sensor is installed,
anylesser impact willcausethepre-detect stage oftheshocksensor to emitaseriesof short
warningtones from the sirenwhen armed.
Iftheoptionalstarterinterruptisinstalledthevehiclestarter circuit is disabled, even with the
ignitionkeythevehiclewillnot start.
DISARMINGTHESYSTEM
Asyouapproachthevehicle,pressand release the unlock button on the keychain transmit-
ter.
Theparking lightswillflash twotimes,the sirenwillchirp twiceandthe dashmountedLEDwill
turnoff. Ifyouhave the optional door lock/unlock circuit installed, thedoorswillunlock.
Note: Ifthepassive arming mode was selectedatthetimeofinstallation, the dash mounted
LEDwillstart flashing rapidly indicating that the systemis rearming. Opening any door will
suspendthe automaticarming.
Iftheparkinglights flashed three times and the sirenchirpsfourtimes,thisindicatesthatthe
alarmsystemhadbeen triggeredinyourabsence. Beforeturningontheignition key,examine
thedashmountedLED'sflashpattern. Thenumberofflashesidentifiesthetriggeredzone.
Foradditionalinformation,refertoINTRUSIONWARNINGSIGNALSfoundlaterinthismanual.
If the siren did not sound upon disarm, then the chirps have been turned off. Refer to the
sectiontitledELIMINATINGTHEARM/DISARMCHIRPS.

1. Asyouapproachthevehicle, pressand holdtheunlockbuttonofyourkeychaintransmitter
for two seconds, or until the system responds.
Theparkinglights will flash twice and thedashmountedLEDwillturn off, confirming that the
systemisdisarmed. The siren will not chirp. Ifyouhavetheoptionaldoor lock/unlock circuit
installed,thedoorswillunlock.
Note: Ifthe passivearmingmodewas selectedattime ofinstallation,thedash mountedLED
will start flashing rapidly indicating that the system is rearming. Opening any door will
suspendthe automaticarming.
Iftheparkinglights flashed three times and the sirenchirpsfourtimes,thisindicatesthatthe
alarmsystemhadbeentriggered in your absence.
VALET/PROGRAM/MANUALOVERRIDESWITCH
Thevaletswitchallows youtotemporarilypreventthealarmfromarming,eliminatingtheneed
to hand your keychain transmitter to parking attendants or garage mechanics. When the
system is in the valet mode, all alarm functions are by-passed, however the remote panic
feature,and the optional remotedoorlock/unlockwill remain operational.
Toenter the valetmode:
1. Start with the valet switch in the "off" position
2.Turntheignitionswitchtothe "on" position.
3.Within 10 seconds of step 2, flip the valet switch to the "on"position.
Thedash mountedLEDwillturn onsolidindicating thatthevaletmode hassuccessfullybeen
entered.

Toreturnto the normal, (alarm mode), operation, move thevaletswitchto the "off"position
anytimetheignitionswitchisintheonposition.
Note:In the event thatyouloseyourkeychaintransmitterorthe transmitter fails to operate
thealarm system, thevaletswitchcanbe used todisarmthealarm. This is referredtoasthe
"ManualOverride". Todisarm thealarm:
1.Open the door with thevehicle door key. (The siren will sound)
2.Turntheignitionswitchtothe "on" position.
3.Flipthevalet/overrideswitch to the "on" position.
Thesystem willdisarmandthesirenwillstopsounding, allowingtheengine tobestarted,and
thevehicletobeoperated normally. Alwaysremember to move the valet switch back to the
"off"position to allow the passive armingand optional starter interrupt featuresto be oper-
ablethenexttimeyou park the vehicle.
INTRUSIONWARNINGSIGNAL
This systemwillinform you if an intrusion attempthasoccurred while you were away from
thevehicle. Upondisarm, the siren will chirp4timesandthe parking lights will flash3times.
Enterthevehicleand
before turningontheignitionswitch,observetheLEDflashpattern.
IftheLEDflashes two times...pause, two times...pause etc., thenanintrusionattempt was
made to open the hood or trunk, or an impact or a strong vibration was applied that the
optionalshock sensor detected. Check thevehicle for indications of forced entry to these
openings,orsignsofglassbreakageorbodydamage.
Ifthe LEDflashesthree times...pause,threetimes...pause etc.,thenan intrusionattemptwas
madetothe vehicle doors. Check all doors forindicationsof forced entry.
Note:The LED intrusion warning indications are stored in the system's memory and will be
erasedwhen the ignition switchis turned on.
ELIMINATINGTHEARM/DISARMCHIRPS
You can selectively eliminate the normal arm or disarm chirps by holding the respective
transmitter button slightly longer when arming and disarming. This will prevent the siren
chirpsforonearmor disarm cycle. If you find this inconvenient and wish toeliminatethese
chirpspermanently,
1. Start with the valet switch in the "off" position.
2.Turn the ignition switch "on" then "off".
3. Within 10 seconds of turning off the ignition, flip the valet switch "on", "off", "on", "off",
"on", "off".
4.Ifthe chirps wereonbeforeyoustarted, the sirenwillemit2short chirps indicatingthatthe
chirpsarenow off. If the chirps were offbeforeyou started, the siren will emitoneshort
chirpindicating that the chirps are nowon.
REMOTEPANICOPERATION
Thelockandunlockbuttonsofyourkeychaintransmitteralsoservesasapanicswitch and
willcausethe siren to sound on demand. To use the panicfeature, you must be within the
system's maximum operating range. In an emergency situation, to use the panic feature,
pressand hold either thelock or unlock button of your keychain transmitter for 3 seconds.

This will cause the lights to flash, the siren to sound. The panic mode will continue for 30
secondsandthen reset.
To disengage the panic feature before the 30 seconds are up, press and hold the lock or
unlockbuttonof your keychain transmitter for 3 seconds.
While the panic mode is engaged, the doors can be remotely locked and unlocked via the
transmitterbypressing the lockorunlockbuttonmomentarily.
ADDITIONALREMOTEFUNCTIONCHANNEL3
The system has an additional feature, (Channel 3) , that can be connected to a number of
differentoptionalaccessories. Someofthe more common uses for this channel are:
qRemoteTrunkRelease
qRemoteWindow Close
qRemoteGarage DoorInterface
To operate the accessory associated with Channel 3, press and
hold the option button of
yourkeychaintransmitter for three seconds.
NOTE: YoumayaccesstheChannel3 commandregardlessofwhetherthe systemis"armed"
or "disarmed", but not when the ignition switch is in the on position. This is to prevent the
outputfromaccidentallyopeningthevehicle'strunk when the vehicle is in motion.
IGNITIONDOORLOCKING/UNLOCKING
When connected to a vehicle's power door lock system the unit is capable of being pro-
grammedfortheaddedsafetyandsecurityofignitioncontrolleddoorlockingandunlocking.
These features are separate, so the unit may be programmed for one, or both, or neither.
Thesefeaturescanonlybeused if the optional door lock/unlock circuit is installed.
Whenthe ignition door locking featureisprogrammed,thesystem will cause all doorlocksto
lock whenever the ignition switch is turned from the "off" to "on" position, (providing that all
doorsareclosedatthattime). Alldoorswilllockapproximately 2 seconds after the vehicle's
ignition switch is turned on. This is a nice feature for maintaining the personal safety of the
occupantsofthevehicle,inaneffortlessandautomaticmanner.
Whentheignitiondoorunlockingfeatureisprogrammed,system will cause all door locks to
unlock whenever the ignition switch is turned from the "on" to "off" position. All doors will
unlockimmediatelyafterthevehicle'signitionswitchisturnedoff.
As stated these features are programmed separately, so you may chose to use one, both,
or neither. Please consult with your dealer to consider your options.
