Mains plug and disconnecon from the supply:

approvalmarkmustbeused.Alwaysreplacetheplascfusecarrierwhenrenewingthefuse.Theplug(or
othermeansofdisconneconfromthesupply,ifused)shouldremainreadilyaccessibleforoperaon
whennecessary.TheLEDpowerindicatoronthisequipmentshouldnotberegardedasprovidingreliable
indicaonofsupplydisconnecon.
Changing the plug:
Ifthefiedmainsplugisnotsuitableforthesocket‐outletsinuse,itshouldbecutoffandanewplug
fied...
Wiring the new plug: Instruconssuppliedwiththenewplugshouldbefollowed.Thebrownwiremustbe
connectedtothelive(L)terminaloftheplugandthebluewiretotheneutral(N)terminal.Neitherwire
shouldbeconnectedtotheearth(E)terminalofa3‐pinplug(theappliancedoesnotrequireanearth
connecon).Ensurethatthecordgripintheplugiscorrectlyusedandclampsthesheathofthecord
firmly.
Fuse Rang: Ifthenewplugisafusedtype,thefusefiedshouldberatedatnotmorethan3Amp.
Cauon: Theoldplugshouldbedestroyedimmediatelysinceitwouldbedangerousifpluggedintoalive
socket.

ThisguaranteecoversfailureofyourPROceponproductresulngfrommanufacturingdefectwithina
periodof2yearsfromthedateofsupplytotheend‐user.Thisguaranteedoesnotcoverdamagetothe
productcausedbyabuse,tampering,defecveinstallaonornaturalcausessuchaslightningdischarge.
Repairoraemptedrepair,otherthanbythemanufacturer,willrenderthisguaranteevoid.This

ThePROMOD1MK2isageneralpurposeAVmodulatorforusewhereaUHFTVsignalneedstobe
generatedfromtheoutputofequipmentwhichdoesnothaveaninternalmodulator.
Features:

 UK(SystemI)double‐sidebandmodulatedoutput.
 UHFoutputchannelselectableinrangeE21toE69(sengautomacallyrestoredonpower‐up).
 VHF‐UHFloop‐throughinput.
 Built‐inmainspowersupply.
 Channels61‐68canbeusedforlocallymodulatedsignals.
Applicaons:
 CCTVsecuritycamera,DVDplayers,camcorders,games,etc.
Locaon:
Themodulatorcanbelocatedinanyconvenientposionanddoesnotrequirefixing.Clearanceofat
least50mmshouldbeallowedaboveandaroundtheunitforvenlaon.Avoidposioningthe
modulatorontopofastackofotherequipmentasthismayresultinoverheang.
Donotleavethemodulatorresngonacarpetorinstallitwhereitmaybecomesmotheredwith
curtainsorothersofurnishingfabrics.Wheninstallingthemodulatorinaroofspaceensurethatit
willnotcomeintocontactwiththermalinsulaonmaterial.
RF signal connecons:
TopreserveRFscreeningintegritythesignalconneconstothemodulatorshouldbemadeusing
goodqualitycoaxialcableandconnectors.Thisisparcularlyimportantinasystemcarryingdigital
terrestrialTV(DTT)tominimisetheingressofimpulsiveelectricalinterference.Theuseofcable
benchmarkedundertheCAIschemeisrecommended.
CrimpFconnectors,usedinaccordancewiththemanufacturersinstrucons,willgivethebest
results.Theimportanceofachievingsoundbraidconneconscannotbeover‐stressed.Connectors
shouldbeghtenedwithaspanner,notlefinger‐ght.

Mains power supply:
Themodulatorissuppliedwithafiedmainsplugandmaybepluggeddirectlyintoa13A(BS1363)
socketoutlet.Ifsocketoutletsofadifferenttypeareinuse,pleaserefertothesafetyinstruconson
page4.Themainsplugshouldremainreadilyaccessibletopermitdisconneconoftheunitfromthe
supply.
Alternavelytheplugmaybecutoffandthemodulatorwiredintoareadilyaccessiblefused
conneconunit,fiedwithanapproved3AfusetoBS1362.Thismethodofconneconis
recommendedforpermanentdistribuonsystemapplicaons,sinceitreducestheriskoftampering
andaccidentaldisconnecon.Pleasenote:Areadilyaccessibleisolangswitchshouldbeprovidedto
allowtheunittobedisconnectedfromthesupplywhennecessary.
Ifthemodulatorisnotconnectedtothemainsusingthefusedplugsupplied,orafusedconnecon
unit,itmustbeprotectedbymeansofafuseorMCBatthefinaldistribuonboardofrangnot
exceeding6A.Pleasenote:Areadilyaccessibleisolangswitchshouldbeprovidedtoallowtheunitto
bedisconnectedfromthesupplywhennecessary.
AnyfixedwiringinstalledtosupplypowertothismodulatorshouldcomplywithBS7671(IEEwiring
regulaons)and,whererelevant,PartPofthebuildingregulaons.TheproMOD1Mk2modulatorisof
ClassIIconstruconanddoesnotrequireaprotecveearthconnecon.Thisdoesnotobviatethe
needtoprovideacircuitprotecve(earth)conductorinthesupplywiring,asrequiredbyBS7671.
System equipotenal bonding:
Distribuonsystemssupplyingsignalstomorethanonehouseholdshouldcomplywiththesafety
requirementsofEN60728‐11.Thiseffecvelyrequiresearthedequipotenalbondingofthesystem.
(Theuseofisolatedoutletplatesisnolongerrecommendedsincetheycompromisescreening
integrityandallowingressofinterference.)BondingmaybeeffectedusingaproBAR5equipotenal
bondingbar.
Seng the output channel number:
Thechannelsengbuonsonthefrontoftheunitarenormallylockedtoprotectagainstaccidental
changeortampering.Tochangetheoutputchannelsengproceedasfollows:
1.Pressandholdbothbuonstogetherforabouttwoseconds.Thechannelno.displaywillstartto
flash.
2.Whilethedisplayisflashing,adjustthechannelno.asrequiredusingthesortbuon.
3.Whenthedisplaystopsflashing(abouttwosecondsaerthelastbuonpress)thenewchannel
sengisstoredinthenon‐volalememory.
4.RepeatfromStep1ifnecessary,totryadifferentchannel,oriftheme‐outoccurredtoosoon.
Iftheoutputchannelischangedaerinstallaon,allTVreceiverswhichareusingthemodulators
outputwillneedtohavetheirappropriatechannelsengsretuned.
Notesonchannelselecon:
Choiceofanappropriatemodulatorchannelsengisimportanttoavoidinterferenceproblems.
 Themodulatoroutputshouldnotbesetonthesamechannelasanyoff‐airanalogueordigital
signalcarriedonthesystem.Usingachannelwhichcoincideswithanoff‐airDTTsignalisa
commoncauseofanoisylookingmodulatorpicture.
 Alsoavoidadjacentchannels(N±1relaonship).
 Avoidanycombinaonwhichresultsinsignalsspaced5channelsapart(N±5relaonship).
 TheoldavoidN±9rulecanusuallybeignored,duetotheimprovedimagerejeconofmodern
TVs.
 Anyothermodulatorsinthesamesystem(inVCRs,etc.)aresubjecttothesamerules,whichalso
applybetweenmodulators.
 Tocheckforinterferencetootherchannelscausedbythemodulator,disconnecttheRFINand
RFOUTcablesandlinkthemtogetherusingaback‐to‐backadapter.
 Tocheckforinterferencecausedbyanoff‐airorotherupstreamsystem‐generatedsignalto
themodulatorsoutputchannel,unplugordisabletherelevantinputfeedtoRFIN.
