INTRODUCTION
The 6 in. Variable Speed Bench Grinder is used for hand held grinding, sharpening or cleaning. The
ball-bearing motor is completely enclosed and the armature assembly dynamically balances for
smooth operation.
The motor housing is compact and recessed, so long work pieces don’t contact the motor frame
during grinding operations. The grinder has an infinite variable speed adjustment between 2,000
to 3,450 RPM. The unit includes an adjustable tool rest, spark guards and eye shield for each of the
two grinding wheels.

WORK AREA
1. Operate in a safe work environment. Keep your work area clean, well lit and free
of distractions.
2. Keep anyone not wearing the appropriate safety equipment away from the work area.
3. Store tools properly in a safe and dry location. Keep tools out of the reach of children.
4. Do not install or use in the presence of flammable gases or liquids.
PERSONAL SAFETY

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT
1. Always wear impact safety goggles that provide front and side protection for the eyes. Wear
a full-face shield if your work creates metal filings or wood chips.
2. Wear gloves that provide protection based on the work materials or to reduce the effects of
tool vibration.
3. Non-skid footwear is recommended to maintain footing and balance in the
work environment.
4. Wear protective clothing designed for the work environment and tool.
5. Wear the appropriate rated dust mask or respirator.
PERSONAL PRECAUTIONS
Control the tool, personal movement and the work environment to avoid personal injury or damage
to tool.
1. Do not operate any tool when tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medications.
2. Avoid wearing clothes or jewelry that can become entangled with the moving parts of a tool.
Keep long hair covered or bound.
3. Do not overreach when operating a tool. Proper footing and balance enables better control
in unexpected situations.
4. Securely hold the material using both hands. Applying the material to the grinder with only
one hand can result in a loss of control.
SPECIFIC SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
1. Keep hands and fingers away from the grinding area. Any part of body coming in contact
with moving parts could cause injury.
2. Never use a tool with a cracked or worn grinding wheel. Change the grinding wheel
before using.
3. Before using the tool on a work piece, test the tool by running it at the highest no-load speed
for at least 60 seconds in a safe position. Stop immediately if there is any abnormal vibration
or wobbling that could indicate poor installation of the grinding wheel. Check the tool to
determine the cause.
4. Do not start the tool when the grinding wheel is touching the work piece.
5. Never force the tool. Excessive pressure could break the tool, resulting in damage to your
work piece or serious personal injury. If your tool runs smoothly under no load, but does not
run smoothly under load, then excessive pressure is being used.
6. Do not allow the tool’s motor to overload and/or overheat by taking work breaks.
7. This tool will not stop moving immediately. Do not leave the tool unattended until it has
come to a complete stop.

8. Never touch the grinding wheel or work piece during or immediately after use. The grinding
wheel or work piece will be too hot to be touched by bare hands.
9. Replace cracked wheel immediately. Use only flanges supplied with the grinder.
10. Clean dust and debris from beneath the grinding wheels frequently.
GENERAL SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
ELECTRICAL SAFETY
WARNING! To reduce risk of electric shock, be certain that the plug is connected to a properly
grounded receptacle.
1. Disconnect tool from power source before cleaning, servicing, changing parts/accessories or
when not in use.
2. Protect yourself against electric shocks when working on electrical equipment. Avoid body
contact with grounded surfaces. There is an increased chance of electrical shock if your body
is grounded.
3. Do not expose tool to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power tool will increase the
risk of electric shock.
4. Do not disconnect the power cord in place of using the ON/OFF switch on the tool. This will
prevent an accidental startup when the power cord is plugged into the power supply.
5. Do not alter any parts of the tool or accessories. All parts and accessories are designed with
built-in safety features that may be compromised if altered.
7. Make certain the power source conforms to requirements of your equipment.
8. When wiring an electrically driven device, follow all electrical and safety codes, as well as the
most recent Canadian Electrical Code (CE) and Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and
Safety (CCOHS).
9. This device is only for use on 120 V (single phase) and is equipped with a 3-prong grounded
power supply cord and plug.
10. DO NOT use this device with a 2-prong wall receptacle.
10.1 Choose an available 3-prong power outlet.
10.2 Replace 2 prong outlet with a grounded 3-prong receptacle, installed in accordance
with the CE Code and local codes and ordinances.
WARNING! All wiring should be performed by a qualified electrician.
POWER CORD
1. Insert the power cord plug directly to the power supply whenever possible. Use extension
cords or surge protectors only when the tool’s power cord cannot reach a power supply from
the work area .
1.1 Use in conjunction with a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI). If operating a power
tool in a damp location is unavoidable, the use of a GFCI reduces the risk of electric
shock. It is recommended that the GFCI should have a rated residual current of
30 mA or less.
2. Do not operate this tool if the power cord is frayed or damaged as an electric shock may
occur, resulting in personal injury or property damage.
2.1 Inspect the tool’s power cord for cracks, fraying or other faults in the insulation or plug
before each use.
2.2 Discontinue use if a power cord feels more than comfortably warm while operating
the tool.
2.3 Have the power cord replaced by a qualified service technician
3. Keep all connections dry and off the ground to reduce the risk of electric shock. Do not
touch plug with wet hands.

4. Prevent damage to the power cord by observing the following:
4.1 Never use the cord to carry the tool.
4.2 Do not pull on the cord to disconnect the plug from an outlet.
4.3 Keep the power cord clear of the tool and the tool’s work path while in operation. The
cord should always stay behind the tool.
4.4 Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts.
5. Do not allow people, mobile equipment or vehicles to pass over unprotected power cords.
5.1 Position power cords away from traffic areas.
5.2 Place cords in reinforced conduits.
5.3 Place planks on either side of the power cord to create a protective trench.
6 Do not wrap cord around tool as sharp edges may cut insulation or cause cracks if wound
too tight. Gently coil cord and either hang on a hook or fasten with a device to keep cord
together during storage.
USE AND CARE OF TOOL
1. Use the correct tool for the job. This tool was designed for a specific function. Do not modify
or alter this tool or use it for an unintended purpose.
2. Avoid unintentional starts. Be sure that the ignition switch/trigger is in the neutral or OFF
position when not in use or before connecting it to any power source.
PARTS IDENTIFICATION
WARNING! Do not operate the tool if any part is missing. Replace the missing part before
operating. Failure to do so could result in a malfunction and personal injury.
Remove the parts and accessories from the packaging and inspect for damage. Make sure that all
items in the parts list are included.

ASSEMBLY
When this manual refers to a part number, it refers to the included Parts Identification section.
WARNING ! Do not connect grinder to the power source until all assembly steps have
been completed.
EYE SHIELD ASSEMBLY
Refer to Figure 1.
1. Fasten spark guard (K) to wheel guard using hex bolt (J), lock washer (I) flat washer (H) and
serrated washer (A). The serrated washer must be placed between spark guard and wheel
guard surfaces for added stability.
2. Remove pan head screws (B) from the eye shield assembly.
3. Mount left upper eye shield bracket (C) to eye shield (E) using pan head screws (B) and
lower eye shield bracket (D).
IMPORTANT! Left upper eye shield bracket is stamped “L” for identification.
4. Slide knob (G) through 6 mm flat washer (F) and through hole at top of spark guard (K) and
fasten into upper eye shield bracket (C).
5. Locate eye shield in desired position for protecting operator and tighten knob.
6. Mount right eye shield assembly in a similar manner.
TOOL REST ASSEMBLY
Refer to Figure 2
1. Attach bracket (E) to wheel guard using hex bolts (F) and flat washers (C).
2. Tighten bolts finger-tight.
3. Slide 5/16 in. -18 carriage bolt (A) into square hole in tool rest bracket (E).
4. Slide tool rest (B) onto carriage bolt from the inside of tool rest as shown in Fig. 2.
5. Slide 5/16 in. flat washer (C) and 5/16 in. -18 hex nut (F) onto carriage bolt (A).
6. Tighten nut finger-tight.
7. Position tool rest so that distance between tool rest and grinding wheel is a maximum
of 1/16 in.
8. Secure all nuts and bolts.
9. Mount the opposite side tool rest in a similar manner.

OPERATION
The motor is designed for operation within 10 percent above or below the voltage specified on the
nameplate. Running the unit on voltages outside that range may cause the motor to overheat and
burn out. Heavy loads require a voltage at the motor terminals equal to the voltage specified on
the nameplate.
ON/OFF ROCKER SWITCH
A single rocker switch controls the power supply to the grinder. Push the switch up to turn on the
grinder. The switch will lock in place. Push it down to turn off the power.
The rocker switch has a removable yellow key. Remove the key from the switch to prevent power
from reaching the motor. The rocker switch won’t function or lock into place without the key.
VARIABLE SPEED SWITCH
The bench grinder has an infinite variable speed from a low of 2,000 RPM to a top speed of 3,450
RPM. The speed is controlled by a knob on the front of the bench grinder.
1. Turn the control knob counterclockwise to increase speed.
2. Turn the control knob clockwise to decrease speed.
GRINDING
WARNING! Never start the tool with the operator or bystander in line with the grinding wheel. A
damaged grinding wheel could shatter and the debris may cause an injury.
• Sharpening and grinding operations can be done with the two grinding wheels.
• Use the tool rest to support the workpiece during grinding when possible.
• Keep a steady, moderate pressure on the workpiece and keep it moving at an even pace for
smooth grinding.
• Do not force the tool. It will work most efficiently at the rate for which it was designed.
Pressing too hard overheats the motor and prematurely wears down the grinding wheel.
• The grinding wheel should rotate into the object being sharpened.
• As wheels wear, the tool rests should be positioned closer to the face of the wheels. The gap
between the wheel and the tool rest should not be greater than 1/16 in. When the wheels are
worn to the extent that the 1/16 in. maximum gap cannot be maintained. The wheels should
be replaced.
• Note the original beveled angle on the item to be sharpened. Try to maintain that angle.
Sharpening a cutting edge requires removing burrs from the edge.
• Deburring the edge is done best by using the grinder to pull burrs from the edge across the
bevel angle.
• Use a slower wheel speed when sharpening tempered tools. Overheating will destroy
the temper.
• Dip the workpiece into a coolant regularly to prevent overheating. Overheating can
weaken metals.
• Do not grind using the sides of a grinding wheel unless it is specifically designed for
that purpose.

OPERATION TIPS
SHARPENING SCISSORS
If possible, take the scissors apart to make the sharpening operation easier and safer. Remove
material only from the outside surface and work from the heavy end of the blade towards the tip.
SHARPENING SCREW DRIVERS
The end of a properly sharpened screwdriver will be a perfect rectangle, absolutely flat and
perpendicular to the center line of the shank. The two sides and two faces will taper outward from
the edge of the shank of the screwdriver. They should be flat with intersecting faces perpendicular.
Hold each face of the screwdriver against the wheel to true it up, and then ease the end straight
into the stone to grind it true.
SHARPENING KNIVES
Remove metal from both faces of most knives, working from the heavy end of the blade towards
the tip.
SHARPENING TWIST DRILL BITS
Drill bits are best sharpened on a sharpening jig but some sharpening can be done on your bench
grinder. Begin on one side of the point at the existing angle, then twist the bit while maintaining
a constant angle with the grinding surface. Sharpen only the tip. This technique requires
considerable practice so try a few times with the grinder OFF. Be sure to maintain the original
cutting edge angle, as this is important to maintaining the efficiency of your bits.
MAINTENANCE
1. Maintain the tool with care. A tool in good condition is efficient, easier to control and will
have fewer problems.
2. Inspect the tool components periodically. Repair or replace damaged or worn components.
3. Follow instructions for lubricating and changing accessories.
4. When servicing, use only identical replacement parts. Only use accessories intended for use
with this tool. Replace damaged parts immediately.
5. Maintain the tool’s label and name plate. These carry important information. If unreadable or
missing, contact Princess Auto Ltd. for replacements.
6. Wheels should be dressed periodically to maintain grinding efficiency, especially if they
become clogged from grinding soft metals. Use a grinding wheel dresser to restore the
wheel’s original shape.
7. Keep all parts in working order. Check to determine that the guard or other parts will operate
properly and perform their intended function.
8. A guard or other part that is damaged should be properly repaired or replaced. Do not
perform makeshift repairs. Use the parts list provided to order replacement parts.
9. Disconnect tool when changing grinding wheels.
10. Replace a cracked wheel immediately and use only flanges supplied with the grinder.
11. Replacement wheels must have a minimum rated speed of 3,500 RPM and a maximum
diameter of 6 in.
12. Replace the wheel.
12.1 Disconnect power and push a wood wedge between the tool rest and the wheel to keep
the shaft from turning.
12.2 Remove the nuts. the threads on the right side of the grinder (facing unit) are right
hand; the threads on the left side are left hand.
12.3 Replace the grinding wheel.
12.4 Tighten nuts securely before operating the grinder. Do not overtighten the wheel nut.
13. Adjust distance between the grinding wheel and the tool rest to maintain a gap of 1/16 in.
or less.
WARNING! Only qualified service personnel should repair the tool. An improperly repaired tool
may present a hazard to the user and/or others.

LUBRICATION
Inspect and lubricate the tool when required.
TROUBLESHOOTING
Contact Princess Auto Ltd. for a solution if the tool does not function properly or parts are missing.
If unable to do so, have a qualified technician service the tool.

INTRODUCTION
La meuleuse d’établi à vitesse variable de 6 po permet d’effectuer les opérations de meulage,
d’affûtage ou de nettoyage manuel. Le moteur à roulement à billes est complètement fermé, alors
que l’ensemble d’armature est dynamiquement équilibré pour un fonctionnement sans à-coups.
Le boîtier du moteur est compact et encastré pour empêcher que les longues pièces ne viennent
en contact avec le cadre du moteur au cours des opérations de meulage. La meuleuse permet
un ajustement infiniment variable de la vitesse entre 2 000 et 3 450 tr/min. L’unité comprend un
porte-outil réglable, une protection contre les étincelles et une protection des yeux pour chacune
des 2 meules.

AIRE DE TRAVAIL
1. Travaillez dans un environnement de travail sécuritaire. Gardez votre aire de travail propre,
bien éclairée et exempte de toute distraction.
2. Assurez-vous que les personnes qui ne portent pas l’équipement de sécurité approprié ne se
trouvent pas à proximité de l’aire de travail.
3. Rangez les outils correctement dans un lieu sécurisé et sec. Gardez les outils hors de la
portée des enfants.
4. N’installez pas et n’utilisez pas d’outils électriques en présence de gaz ou de
liquides inflammables.
SÉCURITÉ PERSONNELLE
AVERTISSEMENT ! Portez de l’équipement de protection personnelle homologué par l’Association
canadienne de normalisation (CSA) ou l’American National Standards Institute (ANSI).
ÉQUIPEMENT DE PROTECTION PERSONNELLE
1. Portez toujours des lunettes antiprojections qui offrent une protection frontale et latérale
pour les yeux. Portez un écran facial panoramique si votre travail produit des limailles ou des
copeaux de bois.
2. Portez des gants qui protègent en fonction des matériaux de travail et pour réduire les effets
des vibrations de l’outil.
3. Les chaussures antidérapantes sont recommandées pour maintenir la stabilité et l’équilibre
au sein de l’environnement de travail.
4. Portez des vêtements de protection conçus pour l’environnement de travail et pour l’outil.
5. Portez un masque antipoussières ou un appareil respiratoire nominal approprié.
PRÉCAUTIONS PERSONNELLES
Gardez le contrôle de l’outil, de vos mouvements et de l’environnement de travail pour éviter les
blessures ou le bris de l’outil.
1. N’utilisez pas l’outil si vous êtes fatigué ou sous l’effet de drogues, d’alcool
ou de médicaments.
2. Évitez de porter des vêtements ou des bijoux pouvant se prendre dans les pièces mobiles
d’un outil. Gardez les cheveux longs recouverts ou attachés.
3. N’utilisez pas l’outil si vous devez étirer les bras pour vous en servir. Une stabilité et
un équilibre appropriés sont nécessaires afin d’avoir un meilleur contrôle en cas de
situations inattendues.
4. Tenez le matériau solidement des deux mains. L’application du matériau à la meuleuse en
utilisant une seule main peut causer une perte de maîtrise.
CONSIGNES DE SÉCURITÉ SPÉCIFIQUES
1. Éloignez les mains et les doigts de la zone de meulage. Toute partie du corps venant en
contact avec des pièces mobiles peut subir des blessures.
2. N’utilisez jamais un outil présentant un meule fissuré ou usé. Remplacez la meule
avant usage.

3. Avant d’utiliser l’outil sur une pièce, assurez-vous d’effectuer une vérification de
fonctionnement de l’outil au régime à vide le plus élevé pendant au moins 60 secondes dans
une position sans danger. Arrêtez immédiatement en présence d’une vibration anormale ou
d’une oscillation quelconque qui pourraient indiquer une mauvaise installation du meule.
Examinez bien l’outil pour déterminer la cause du problème.
4. Ne mettez jamais l’outil en marche si une meule est en contact avec la pièce de travail.
5. Ne forcez jamais l’outil. Une pression excessive pourrait briser l’outil, entraînant ainsi des
dommages au niveau de la pièce à travailler ou causant des blessures graves. Si votre outil
fonctionne correctement lorsqu’il n’y a aucune charge, mais non lorsqu’elle est soumise à une
charge, cela signifie qu’une pression excessive est utilisée.
6. Évitez la surcharge ou la surchauffe du moteur en prenant des pauses.
7. Cet outil ne s’arrêtera pas immédiatement. Ne laissez pas l’outil sans surveillance avant qu’il
ne s’immobilise.
8. Ne touchez jamais la meule ou la pièce à travailler pendant ou immédiatement après l’avoir
utilisée. La meule ou la pièce à travailler sera trop chaude pour qu’on puisse la toucher avec
les mains nues.
9. Remplacez immédiatement les meules fendues. Utilisez uniquement les brides fournies avec
la meuleuse.
10. Nettoyez la poussière et les débris du dessous des meules fréquemment.
CONSIGNES DE SÉCURITÉ GÉNÉRALES
SÉCURITÉ EN ÉLECTRICITÉ
AVERTISSEMENT ! Pour réduire les risques de choc électrique, assurez-vous que la fiche est
branché dans une prise de courant correctement mise à la masse.
1. Déconnectez l’outil de la source d’énergie avant le nettoyage, l’entretien, le remplacement de
pièces ou d’accessoires ou lorsqu’il n’est pas utilisé.
2. Protégez-vous contre les chocs électriques lorsque vous travaillez en présence d’équipement
électrique. Évitez le contact entre votre corps et les surfaces reliées à la terre. Il y a un risque
plus élevé de choc électrique si votre corps est mis à la terre.
3. Les outils ne doivent jamais être exposés à la pluie ou à une forte humidité. Si l’eau pénètre à
l’intérieur d’un outil, le risque de choc électrique devient beaucoup plus grand.
4. Ne débranchez pas le cordon d’alimentation au lieu d’utiliser le commutateur de MARCHE/
ARRÊT sur l’outil. Ceci permet d’éviter une mise en marche involontaire lorsque vous
branchez le cordon d’alimentation dans la source d’énergie.
5. Ne modifiez aucune partie de l’outil ou des accessoires. Toutes les pièces et tous les
accessoires sont conçus avec des dispositifs de sécurité intégrés qui seront compromis s’ils
sont modifiés.
6. Assurez-vous que la source d’énergie est conforme aux exigences de votre équipement.
7. Au moment de câbler un appareil électrique, respectez tous les codes en matière d’électricité
et de sécurité, ainsi que les versions les plus récentes du Code canadien de l’électricité (CE)
et du code du Centre canadien d’hygiène et de sécurité au travail (CCHST).
9. Cet appareil ne doit être utilisé qu’avec un courant monophasé de 120 V et est muni d’un
cordon d’alimentation et d’une fiche à 3 broches.
10. N’utilisez PAS cet appareil avec une prise murale à 2 broches.
10.1 Choisissez une prise de courant libre à 3 broches.
10.2 Remplacez la prise à 2 broches par une prise à 3 broches mise à la masse, installée
conformément au Code de l’électricité, ainsi qu’aux ordonnances et aux codes locaux
en vigueur.

CORDON D’ALIMENTATION
1. Autant que possible, insérez la fiche du cordon d’alimentation directement dans la source
d’énergie. N’utilisez des rallonges ou des limiteurs de surtension que lorsque le cordon
d’alimentation de l’outil est trop court pour atteindre la source d’énergie depuis l’aire
de travail.
1.1 Servez-vous de l’outil avec un interrupteur de circuit en cas de fuite à la terre (GFCI). S’il
est absolument nécessaire d’utiliser un outil électrique dans un endroit humide, l’emploi
d’un tel interrupteur de circuit diminue le risque de choc électrique.
2. N’utilisez pas cet outil si le cordon d’alimentation est effilé ou endommagé, car un choc
électrique peut se produire, ce qui pourrait causer des blessures ou des dommages
à la propriété.
2.1 Avant chaque utilisation, inspectez le cordon d’alimentation de l’outil; vérifiez qu’il n’est
ni fissuré, ni effiloché et que l’isolant et la fiche ne sont pas endommagés.
2.2 Arrêtez d’utiliser l’outil si le cordon d’alimentation est trop chaud au toucher.
2.3 Faites remplacer le cordon d’alimentation par un technicien de service compétent.
3. Pour réduire le risque de choc électrique, assurez-vous que toutes les connexions sont
sèches et qu’elles ne présentent aucun contact avec le sol. Ne touchez pas la fiche avec les
mains humides.
4. Pour éviter tout dommage au cordon d’alimentation, observez les précautions suivantes :
4.1 N’utilisez jamais le cordon d’alimentation pour transporter l’outil.
4.2 Ne tirez jamais sur le cordon d’alimentation pour déconnecter la fiche de la prise.
4.3 Maintenez le cordon d’alimentation à l’écart de l’outil et de la zone de travail de l’outil
pendant son utilisation. Le cordon doit toujours se trouver derrière l’outil.
4.4 Tenez le cordon à l’écart de la chaleur, de l’huile, des rebords coupants ou des
pièces mobiles.
5. Veillez à ce que personne, ni aucun matériel mobile ni des véhicules n’écrasent les cordons
d’alimentation non protégés.
5.1 Disposez les cordons d’alimentation loin des zones de passage.
5.2 Placez les cordons d’alimentation à l’intérieur de conduits renforcés.
5.3 Placez des planches de chaque côté du cordon d’alimentation pour créer un
couloir protecteur.
6. N’enroulez pas le cordon autour de l’outil car les bords tranchants risquent d’entailler
l’isolant ou des fissures peuvent se former sur le cordon s’il est enroulé trop serré. Enroulez
délicatement le cordon et suspendez-le à un crochet ou attachez-le sur un support pour qu’il
reste enroulé pendant son rangement.
UTILISATION ET ENTRETIEN DE L’OUTIL
1. Utilisez le bon outil pour la tâche à effectuer. Cet outil a été conçu pour une utilisation
spécifique. Évitez de modifier ou d’altérer cet outil ou de l’utiliser à une fin autre que celle
pour laquelle il a été conçu.
2. Évitez les mises en marche involontaires. Assurez-vous que le commutateur d’allumage/la
gâchette soit en position neutre ou OFF (arrêt) lorsque l’outil n’est pas utilisé et avant de le
brancher sur une source d’énergie.
