PERSONAL SAFETY

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT
1. Always wear impact safety goggles that provide front and
side protection for the eyes. Eye protection equipment
should comply with CSA Z94.3-07 or ANSI Z87.1 standards
based on the type of work performed.
2. Wear gloves that provide protection based on the work
materials or to reduce the effects of tool vibration.
3. Wear protective clothing designed for the work
environment and tool.

PERSONAL PRECAUTIONS
Control the tool, personal movement and the work
environment to avoid personal injury or damage to the tool.
1. Do not operate any tool when tired or under the influence
of drugs, alcohol or medications.
2. Avoid wearing clothes or jewelry that can become
entangled with the moving parts of a tool. Keep long hair
covered or bound.
3. Do not overreach when operating the tool. Proper footing
and balance enables better control in unexpected situations.
4. Support the workpiece or clamp it to a stable platform.
Holding the workpiece by hand or against your body may
lead to personal injury.
SPECIFIC SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
WARNING! DO NOT let comfort or familiarity with product
(gained from repeated use) replace strict adherence to the
tool safety rules. If you use this tool unsafely or incorrectly,
you can suffer serious personal injury.
1. Use the correct tool for the job. This tool was designed for
a specific function. Do not modify or alter this tool or use it
for an unintended purpose.
2. Failure to use the plastic welder correctly may result in fire,
damage and/or personal injury.
3. Keep hands and body clear of the welding head when
operating as it becomes very hot.
4. Do not leave the operating plastic welder unattended.
5. Do not allow the plastic welder to become wet or attempt
to cool the welding head with water.
6 Do not refill gas or store the butane soldering iron near a
naked flame, heater or combustible materials.
7. Do not drop, puncture or incinerate the butane soldering iron.
The butane gas is under pressure and damage may rupture
the unit.

8. Do not touch the butane soldering iron if it is venting gas.
The gas can cause a frostbite injury if it contacts skin.
9. Do not store or operate at temperatures above 50°C.
10. Let the plastic welder fully cool down before storing in the
molded case.
UNPACKING
WARNING! Do not operate the tool if any part is missing.
Replace the missing part before operating. Failure to do so
could result in a malfunction and personal injury.
Remove the parts and accessories from the packaging and inspect
for damage. Make sure that all items in the parts list are included.

ASSEMBLY & INSTALLATION
Numbered references in parenthesis (1) refer to the Unpacking
contents. Letter references in parenthesis (A) refer to the
included Identification Key.
OPERATION
IGNITION
WARNING! All metalwork forward of the control section will
become hot and can cause a burn injury. Do not touch
welding head or metal body. Keep the tool away from
flammable objects until the soldering iron has time to cool.
1. Choose and fit a welding head (H) to the end of the butane
soldering iron (1). Fix in place with the screw.
2. Rotate the gas flow control (B) to the third position.
3. Press the ON/OFF switch (A) to the right, the ON position,
and press against the safety lock button (E). This frees the
ignition slider (F) for use and starts the flow of butane gas.
4. Slide the ignition slider (F) down in a quick motion to
ignite the flowing gas. The ON/OFF switch will remain in
the ON position.

5. Rotate the gas flow control to the second position to heat
the welding head. The catalyst block (D) will change from
white to orange as it heats up.
6. The heated air and gas are exhausted forward onto the
workpiece. To interrupt the gas flow, press and hold the gas
cut-off button (G). Releasing the button allows the gas to
flow again. Depending on how long the button was held,
the gas may need to be reignited.
SHUTTING OFF
1. Push the ON/OFF switch to the left, the OFF position. This
will stop the flow of gas.
2. Insert the soldering iron into the support slot (9) and let the
butane soldering iron fully cool down before replacing in case.
BUTANE SOLDERING IRON – BASICS
The plastic welding kit can be used for many types of repairs.
You can stop and resume a repair at any time as this is a heat-
based process and no chemical curing is involved.
1. Clean and prepare the surface by sanding with 120 to 180
grit paper to remove any paint, primer or dirt. This also
reduces the surface level compared to the surrounding area
that will be filled with plastic.
1.1 You may wish to feather the sanded area to help blend
the repair into the workpiece.
1.2 Drill a small hole at the end of a crack to prevent it
from splitting further before soldering.
2. Ignite the soldering iron and allow to heat up.
3. Direct the heated gas against the damaged area of the
workpiece to warm it up enough to melt with the plastic
rod when applied.
4. Insert the plastic rod that matches the material
composition of the workpiece through the opening in the
welding head (2 or 3).

5. Perform the following actions at the same time to add
plastic to the damaged area:
5.1 Press down on the damaged area so the welding head
is flat against the workpiece. Slowly draw the soldering
iron across the crack.
5.2 Apply pressure and feed the plastic welding rod
through the welding head opening.
6. Remove the plastic welding rod from the welding head. Should
an area require more plastic, reinsert the rod and repeat step 5
until you’ve added as much plastic as you desire.
7. Use the hot welding head to smooth and blend the plastic
into the workpiece.
8. Shut the butane soldering iron off and place the butt end
into the support slot (9) to allow to cool. Clean the welding
head with the brush (5) and cleaning rod (6) once it is cool
enough to touch.
9. The workpiece is ready for sanding to smooth the surface.
REPAIRING A LARGE HOLE OR CRACK
A hole or crack may be too wide to repair in a single pass.
Cover the gap with wire mesh.
1. Cut a strip of reinforcing mesh (7) to cover a gaping crack
or a hole. The mesh should rest below the workpiece’s
surface. The melted plastic will cover it and allow sanding
without exposing the mesh.
1.1 Apply the mesh to a curve to provide structural
support when soldering.
2. Tack the mesh to one end of the damaged area. Heat up
the area until you can press the mesh into the plastic.
Smooth the plastic over with the welding head.
2.1 You may need to tack more than one spot.
3. Follow the instructions for filling a crack. Press the rod
material hard enough so it will pass through the mesh to
cover the other side.

4. Make enough passes with the butane soldering iron to cover
the damaged area. Overlap each pass slightly to prevent
openings from appearing. This can weaken the area.
5. Smooth the plastic on the opposite side first if it won’t be
visible in the finished workpiece.

CARE & MAINTENANCE
1. Maintain the tool with care. A tool in good condition is
efficient, easier to control and will have fewer problems.
2. Inspect the tool components periodically. Repair or replace
damaged or worn components. Only use identical
replacement parts when servicing.
3. Follow instructions for lubricating and changing accessories.
4. Only use accessories intended for use with this tool.
5. Maintain the tool’s labels and name plates. These carry
important information. If unreadable or missing, contact
Princess Auto Ltd. for replacements.
WARNING! Only qualified service personnel should repair the
tool. An improperly repaired tool may present a hazard to the
user and/or others.
GAS REFILLING
1. The butane soldering iron must be cool before refilling
with butane gas.
2. Ensure the switch (A) is turned to the OFF position
before filling.
3. Invert the soldering iron so the butt is up.
4. Insert the gas container's nozzle vertically into the gas
fill valve (C).
5. The soldering iron is full when gas escapes from the
fill valve.

TROUBLESHOOTING
Visit a Princess Auto Ltd. location for a solution if the tool does
not function properly or parts are missing. If unable to do so,
have a qualified technician service the tool.

1. Portez toujours des lunettes antiprojections qui offrent une

CONSIGNES DE SÉCURITÉ SPÉCIFIQUES
AVERTISSEMENT ! Ne permettez PAS au confort ou à votre
familiarisation avec l'outil (obtenus après un emploi répété) de
se substituer à une adhésion stricte aux règles de sécurité de
l'outil. Si vous utilisez cet outil de façon dangereuse ou
incorrecte, vous pouvez subir des blessures corporelles graves.
1. Utilisez le bon outil pour la tâche à effectuer. Cet outil a été
conçu pour une utilisation spécifique. Évitez de modifier ou
d'altérer cet outil ou de l'utiliser à une fin autre que celle pour
laquelle il a été conçu.
2. Une utilisation inadéquate de la soudeuse de plastique peut
provoquer un incendie, des dommages ou des blessures
corporelles.
3. Tenez vos mains et votre corps loin de la tête de soudage
pendant l’utilisation ou lorsqu’elle devient très chaude.
4. Ne laissez pas la soudeuse de plastique en marche sans
surveillance.
5. Évitez tout contact de la soudeuse de plastique avec de l’eau
et ne tentez pas de refroidir la tête de soudage avec de l’eau.
6 Ne faites pas la recharge de gaz ou ne rangez pas le fer à
souder au butane près d’une flamme ouverte, d’un appareil
de chauffage ou de matières combustibles.
7. N’échappez pas, ne percez pas et n’incinérez pas le fer à
souder au butane. Le gaz butane est sous pression et tout
dommage peut provoquer une rupture de l’appareil.
8. Ne touchez pas le fer à souder au butane si du gaz en sort.
Le gaz peut causer une lésion cutanée par engelure en cas
de contact.
9. Ne rangez pas et n’utilisez pas le fer à une température
excédant 50 °C.
10. Laissez la soudeuse de plastique refroidir complètement
avant de la ranger dans la mallette moulée.

DÉBALLAGE
AVERTISSEMENT ! Ne faites pas fonctionner l'outil si des
pièces sont manquantes. Remplacez les pièces manquantes
avant l'utilisation. Le non-respect de cet avertissement peut
entraîner une défectuosité et des blessures graves.
Retirez les pièces et les accessoires de l'emballage et vérifiez
s'il y a des dommages. Assurez-vous que tous les articles sur la
liste de pièces sont compris.

ASSEMBLAGE ET INSTALLATION
Les numéros de référence entre parenthèses (1) font référence à
la section Déballage. Les lettres de référence entre parenthèses
(A) se rapportent à la clé d'identification comprise.
UTILISATION
ALLUMAGE
AVERTISSEMENT ! Toutes les parties en métal se trouvant
devant le bloc de commande deviendront chaudes et peuvent
causer des brûlures. Ne touchez pas la tête de soudage ni le
corps en métal. Tenez l’outil loin des objets inflammables
jusqu’à ce que le fer à souder ait eu le temps de refroidir.
1. Choisissez et installez une tête de soudage (H) au bout du
fer à souder au butane (no1). Fixez-la à l’aide de la vis.
2. Tournez la molette de réglage du débit du gaz (B) à la
troisième position.
3. Glissez l’interrupteur de marche/arrêt (A) vers la droite, à la
position ON (marche) et pressez le bouton de verrouillage

de sécurité (E). Cela libère l’interrupteur à glissière (F) pour
l’utilisation et active le débit de gaz butane.
4. Glissez l’interrupteur à glissière (F) vers le bas par un
mouvement rapide pour enflammer le débit de gaz.
L’interrupteur de marche/arrêt demeurera à la position ON
(marche).
5. Tournez la molette de réglage du débit du gaz à la
deuxième position pour chauffer la tête de soudage. Le
bloc catalytique (D) passera du blanc à la couleur orange à
mesure qu’il se réchauffera.
6. L’air chaud et le gaz s’échappent vers l’avant sur la pièce à
travailler. Pour couper le débit de gaz, appuyez et
maintenez le bouton de coupure du gaz (G). Relâchez le
bouton pour réactiver l’alimentation en gaz. Selon la durée
de maintien du bouton, il se peut qu’il soit nécessaire
d’enflammer le gaz à nouveau.
ARRÊT
1. Glissez l’interrupteur de marche/arrêt vers la gauche, à la
position OFF (arrêt). Cela coupera l’alimentation en gaz.
2. Insérez le fer à souder dans la fente d’appui (no9) et laissez
le fer à souder au butane refroidir complètement avant de
le replacer dans la mallette.
FER À SOUDER AU BUTANE –
NOTIONS DE BASE
La trousse de soudage de plastique convient à de nombreux
types de réparations. Vous pouvez interrompre et reprendre
une réparation en tout temps étant donné qu’il s’agit d’un
procédé à chaud et qui n’implique aucun durcissement
chimique.
