The CWS10 is the fi rst product of its type: a high performance fully
enclosed in-wall subwoofer. A pair of 10” woofers of unique design
provide stand-alone subwoofer performance in a wall mounted
enclosure less than 4 inches deep. The CWS10 can be used with
any of our in-wall systems but is perfectly matched to the similarly
constructed CW600E and CW800E high performance in-walls.
The challenge of creating good bass with an in-wall subwoofer comes
from several issues: fi rst, the wall depth requires a woofer of shallow
depth for its size. Six and eight inch woofers can be wall mounted but
a 10 inch woofer, the ideal size for the performance we are seeking, is
generally unavailable in shallow depths. This challenge has been met
by a unique woofer design that mounts the magnet structure in front of
the woofer cone. Neodymium Iron Boron magnet material allows the
magnet structure to be reduced in size to where the magnet will fi t in
the relatively narrow volume contained in the woofer cone.
Secondly, a typical wall cavity is not designed to be an enclosure for
bass generation. Leakage to adjacent cavities would reduce both the
quality and quantity of bass. PSB has chosen the route of building a
highly braced, fully sealed wooden enclosure for the CWS10. As the
size of the cabinet is not much greater than the pair of 10” woofers
it contains, the internal volume is limited. Designing the woofers
with very high mass and magnet strength provide the appropriate
parameters for use in this reduced cabinet volume.
The passive CWS10 is ideally matched to the PSB CWA-1 subwoofer
amplifi er. This dedicated 300 Watt amplifi er includes the appropriate
fi ltering and equalization needed to be fully optimized for use with
the CWS10. Besides comprehensive fi ltering for blending to front
and surround channels, the CWA-1 provides the correct amount of
equalization rolloff to extend the response yet still provide substantial
subsonic protection. Use the CWA-1 with extension “Low Frequency
Cutoff” switch set to 30Hz, the most extended position. Thus set,
the system will extend to 35Hz with very generous output capability.
This combination is so powerful and dynamic it would be suitable for
the highest performance theaters, let alone any decent sized home
theater.
CWS10 - Dual 10” Passive In-Wall Speaker System

reduces woofer depth
• System is full enclosed for optimum performance and
reduced bleed thru to adjacent rooms
• Rigid and heavily braced enclosure for pure and
powerful bass
• Ideally mates to CWA-1 subwoofer amplifi er

• Proximity to corners or fl oor will increase
bass level.
• System may be oriented and aligned to look
best next to CW800E (or CW600E)
• Single subwoofer systems should be
mounted on front wall or on side walls near
to the front wall.
• Using 2 CWS10s can improve response
evenness, especially if each is mounted in
the middle off opposite walls.
• Mounting template provided.
• Make a small exploratory hole and check
for obstructions in wall cavity before cutting
mounting hole.
• The CWS10 requires a full width stud bay
clear of any obstructions, pipes, wires, etc.
• The units are heavy, having a second
installer available is recommended.
• Adjust electric screwdrivers to appropriate
torque. Tighten mounting screws fi rmly but
do not over tighten!
• Connect signal wires to hex screw terminals
found on one end of the enclosure. Observe
proper connection polarity and tighten wires
proper connection polarity and tighten wires
down fi rmly.
• See manual for more installation hints.
