The PULSAR 650W Lantern Range gives the lighting designer
the ability to produce variable beam sizes and shapes with either a
hard or soft edge. Runners are provided to accept an optional
drop in Gobo Holder or Iris. The Profile Zoom Lantern also
contains profiling stainless steel shutter blades, and these,
together with the zoom lens system provides the operator with full
control over the beam.
MAINS SUPPLY - 240VAC~650W Max., 50-60Hz nominal
Ensure that the lamp voltage suits the supply voltage.
The mains cable should be protected by a fuse with a maximum
rating of 10A.
The mains cable should be fitted with a suitably approved and
rated plug.
Note: in some countries it is a requirement that such a plug be
fitted by a qualified electrician.
We recommend the use of a Residual Current Circuit Breaker.
CABLE COLOURS
Green/Yellow =Earth / Ground
Brown =Live / Phase / Hot
Blue =Neutral
WARNING - THIS APPLIANCE MUST BE EARTHED
A Steering Handle and a Safety Chain Fixing Point are provided
on the rear panel.
INSTALLATION should only be carried out by
suitably skilled and competent persons.
The wearing of heat-resistant gloves when making any
adjustments is strongly advised, as the enclosure temperature of
the 650W range may be 200OC.
The 650W Lantern Range must be securely mounted, using the
M10 bolt, spring washer and wing nut supplied, through the hole
located in the handle.
A safety chain of suitable length and strength (Pulsar 60030/1)
must be securely fixed between the fixing point on the rear of the
Lantern and the suspension point (mounting surface).
The 650W Lanterns generate a certain amount
of heat, the minimum distance from flammable
materials to the surface of the luminaire shall
be 0.3m.
The Fresnel/Pebble Convex (Profile Zoom)
must be a minimum distance of 0.9m (0.6m)
from lighted objects.
Colour Filters (125mm x 125mm) may be inserted in the gel
holder provided, which in turn slots into the runners on the front of
the lantern and is retained by the spring clip.
LAMP BASE - Type GY 9.5
SUITABLE LAMPS -
300W -M38 (2000 hrs)
500W -T18 (400 hrs), T25 (400 hrs), M40 (2000 hrs)
650W -T26 (400 hrs), T27 (400 hrs)
Note: it has been found by some of our customers that the use
of a 300W lamp for bright colours (yellow etc.) and a 500W/650W
lamp for dark colours (blue etc.) produces a more even light show,
as well as reducing total current consumption.

LAMP REPLACEMENT - This should only be
carried out by suitably skilled and competent persons.
Disconnect from the supply and allow the lantern to cool before
replacing lamp.
Fresnel/Pebble Convex - to release the lamp tray, slacken off
the lens adjustment knob (located on the underside of the
lantern), slide the lamp to the rear, then re-tighten. Turn the lower
front silvered screw 90oand allow the tray to hinge down.
Profile Zoom - to release the lamp tray, turn both the underside
rear silvered screws 90o.
Do not touch the quartz envelope, always use the disposable
shield supplied with the lamp. Do not use damaged or
discoloured lamps. Always observe lamp manufacturers'
operating instructions regarding burning positions.
The wearing of heat-resistant gloves when making any
adjustments is strongly advised, as the enclosure
temperature of the 650W range may be 200OC.
Fresnel and Pebble Convex - Variable beam sizes (Fresnel
beam angles 8.5O-68O, Pebble Convex beam angles 6.0O-71O)
can be achieved by adjusting the position of the lens relative to the
lamp. To do this, slacken off the lens adjustment knob (located
on the front underside of the lantern), slide the lens to the required
position, then re-tighten. To create a larger beam the lens is
moved away from the lamp.
Profile Zoom - Variable beam sizes (Beam angles 14o-36o) can
be achieved by adjusting the positions of the lenses relative to
each other and to the lamp. To do this, slacken off the lens
adjustment knobs (located on the front underside of the lantern),
slide both lenses to the required positions, then re-tighten. To
create a large beam the lenses are set closest together, to create
a small beam the lenses are set furthest apart. The rear lens
mainly effects the beam size, whilst the front lens mainly effects
the beam focus.
All Lanterns - A drop in Iris may also be used to produce even
smaller beams.
LENS CLEANING - This should only be carried out
by suitably skilled and competent persons. Disconnect
from the supply and allow to cool before attempting to clean the
lenses.
Fresnel/Pebble Convex - remove any accessories fitted, slacken
off the lens adjustment knob (located on the under side of the
lantern) and slide the lamp to the rear, then re-tighten. Turn the
underside front silvered screw 90oand allow the tray to hinge
down. Both faces of the lens may now be cleaned with a soft
damp cloth.
Profile Zoom - remove the M3 screw from the top centre of the
front plate, slide the top plate forward to reveal the lenses. Clean
with a soft damp cloth. Ensure lenses are correctly fitted - their
curved surfaces must be facing each other with the smaller lens
at the rear near the lamp.
By altering the position of the lamp within the reflector the light
output may be maximised and the required eveness of the beam
may be achieved. To do this, slacken off the lamp adjustment
knob (located on the rear underside of the lantern), slide to the
desired position, then re-tighten.
Whilst the lantern is powered, slide lamp adjustment knob gently
in order to preserve lamp life.
To profile the beam, four shutter blades have been provided.
These must be inserted through the "shutter gate slots" and in
between the five plates with one blade per layer. To allow
insertion, hold the blade at 45o, push its rounded corner between
the plates and hook its semi-circular notch over the shutter gate
then push securely home. With all blades fully extended the
beam will remain untrimmed, with any blade fully home the beam
will be totally extinguished.
The lenses are also protective shields and shall be
changed if they have become visibly damaged to such
an extent that their effectiveness is impaired, for
example by cracks or deep scratches.
MAINS CABLE REPLACEMENT - This modification
should only be carried out by suitably skilled and competent
persons.
Important - the earth wire must be longer than the live and
neutral wires so that the earth will always be the last wire to come
off if the cable is pulled from the unit.
Ensure the outer sheath covering the live and neutral wires is
within 15mm of the live and neutral terminal strip.
PORTABLE APPLIANCE TESTING - The Lanterns may
be safely Earth Bond and Insulation (500V) Tested.
STANDARDS - The 650W Lantern Range complies with the
following International and National Standards:
Electrical Safety - EN60598-1, EN60598-2-17
Marking Directive 93/68/EEC - The 650W Lantern
Range meet the Low Voltage Directive 73/23/EEC
