- The Pure Storage ESS is a self contained energy storage and management system
including inverter charger system, controller, EMS and 4.8Kwh lithium battery with BMS –
All in one box.
- On average, only 30% of energy generated from PV is absorbed by the home. The rest is
exported to the grid.
- Pure Storage is designed to increase the self-consumption of solar PV from 30% to 85%.
- The Pure Storage system is designed to store this excess PV energy which is normally
exported and use this to increase self-absorption.
- Primarily uses PV, if not enough PV then battery storage will assist, if not enough battery
storage then the grid will provide the balance of power.
- Option to connect critical circuits to remain powered during a power cut.
- Option to power from economy 7, utilising lower rate electricity.

There are two basic configurations for the Pure Storage system. The diagram above
shows a configuration with the power meter installed in the box. This is expected for
most of the installations where the Puredrive Storage box is placed within 10m of the
distribution board. The power meter will require an external power supply which it will be
supplied from within the box.

6. INSTALLATION DETAILS:
6.1 Mount the box against a wall:
1. Find a suitable location, out of the living area of the home owner and close to the
distribution board. This needs to be within 10 meters of both AC grid in and PV grid tied inverter
output
2. The box should be ideally floor mounted but can also be wall mounted providing the wall
is capable.
3. Feed the required cables (AC Power & 2 CT Leads) In through the holes in the base of
the unit.
4. Fix the box to the wall securely leaving a 2cm gap between the back of the unit and the
wall. Ensure the air vents are kept clear.
5. Also ensure that there is adequate space under the box to enable cable entry
from the bottom of the box.
6.2 Install the battery inside the box with the terminals facing towards the Inverter:
1. Use the handles to lift the battery into position on the right hand side of the
pure storage box.
2. Make sure there is an even gap around the battery.

6.5 Install the Supplied DC supply to the controller
The Puredrive inverter AC IN is connected to the distribution / consumer board in the
following ways:
- If there are spare ways on the consum-
er unit Main switch, the puredrive inverter
cable can be connected to a 16A type B
circuit breaker or 16A Type B/30mA, RCBO.
If there are spare ways on an RCD protect-
ed switch this can be used as above.
- If there are no spare ways on the con-
sumer unit, a separate distribution board will
be fitted for the Purerive system. This will
either have a 100A RCD main switch, plus
16A type B CB or a 100A (non-RCD) main
switch and 16A/30mA RCBO or 16A type
B CB.
- The feed for this DB is taken from spare
ways on an existing service block using
appropriate size tails. Or if no spare ways
present, a new service block/s installed as
necessary.
Use twin pair cable to connect to the DC power supply from the inverter DC connections to
the back of the controller.

7. Internet and Portal communication:
Setting Up the WiFi
The WiFi Menu is located in the ‘Settings’ Tab on the control panel.
The Wi-Fi menu shows the available networks. When a network is selected, it is possible to fill in
the password (if the password is not already known) to connect to the network.
Getting started with VRM Portal
There are two separate steps that need to be taken. First, you need to create a VRM user ac-
count. And after that the installation, called ‘site’ needs to be paired with that user account. It is
possible to pair one site to multiple user accounts.
Requirements
1 A computer connected to the Internet
2 The VRM Portal ID, which uniquely identifies your system.
a Color Control GX: the VRM Portal ID can be found in the menu Settings VRM Logger. It
looks like this: be300d83ff04. For more information, see Troubleshooting VRM Portal Connectivity
for a CCGX.
b VGR, VGR2 and VER: the VRM Portal ID is the IMEI number. It is written on a label on
the back of the modem, and on a label on the outside of the carton. It can also be requested
by sending a text message to the modem with the command ‘GSM’. For more information, see
Troubleshooting VRM Portal Connectivity for a VGR.
3 The gateway, be it a Color Control GX, VGR, VGR2 or VER, needs to have had a successful
connection to the VRM Portal.
Note: it is recommended, especially when working with SIM cards, to first configure and test the
internet connection in your office, before installing it on location. It is not necessary to connect
any equipment, such as a Multi or BMV battery monitor: applying power to a stand-alone Color
Control or Victron Global Remote will do, as they also connect to the VRM Portal when there are
no products connected.
Creating a VRM user account
1. Go to https://vrm.victronenergy.com

www.puredrive-energy.co.uk
16
Installer Manual
3. Complete all the requested information:
4. You will now receive a confirmation email with a link to activate your account. Account
creation is now finished, click add site to continue pairing a site to this user account. Pairing a
site to a user account
Note: make sure that the VGR/VER/CCGX has already started communicating with the VRM
Site. Otherwise it is not possible to pair and add a site to a user account. If the VGR/VER/
CCGX has not started communicating with the VRM site yet, this error screen will appear:

www.puredrive-energy.co.uk
Installer Manual
17
1. Enter the IMEI or MAC Address number for one of the VGR, VER or CCGX products.
2. Click next and your device is now paired with your VRM user account. In case you
are the first user to add this site to your account, you will automatically have Admin
rights for this site. Any subsequent users that add this site to their account will become
a normal user, that cannot change any settings. An Admin user can assign Admin rights
to other users on the Settings page.

www.puredrive-energy.co.uk
18
Installer Manual
3. The first page will be as the screen below. If the CCGX/VGR/VER is not yet installed
there will no data shown.
4. Once more than one site is linked to your VRM user account, you will see all of them
on a map. When multiple sites are close together, they will be grouped into one balloon.
The color of the balloon will be red when one or more sites grouped in that balloon has a
problem.
Configure the site
In the Settings tab, only visible for sites at which you have admin rights, go through the
following settings:
General
GSM Number: useful to save the GSM number of the sim card of a Victron Global
Remote. The only function of this field is to keep it in a safe place, nothing else.
Generator: enable when there is a AC generator connected to the system. In case
of a Quattro, the VRM Portal will assume that the generator is connected to AC input 1.

www.puredrive-energy.co.uk
Installer Manual
19
Mains: enable when there is Mains (utility grid or shore) available to the system. In case
of a Quattro, the VRM Portal will assume that this is connected to AC input 2.
Use VE.Bus SOC: Enable this for systems in which the Multi . The website will then
use battery state of charge as reported by the Multi or Quattro. Note that you need to
configure the battery capacity in VEConfigure. More information in the VRM FAQ
Useful for accounts that have many sites. For example a hybrid generator rental com-
pany with four depots: North, South, West and East. Add the tag of the right depot to
all sites. Then in the sites overview you can filter on these tags.
