QRS PMII to PNO3WB Upgrade Instrucons
Unplug the piano from the AC outlet and locate the PMII Processor.
Locate the PMII Processor.
Look under the soundboard area on a grand piano.
Remove the Lower Panel on an upright. Lower Panel
SD Card‐DO NOT remove, you won’t need it.
The QRS Music Library is now stored INSIDE the PNO3WB processor.
Return the PMII processor with the SD card to QRS Music using the UPS Return Label provided.
Unscrew and remove the PMII processor from the piano.
MIDI Controller
MIDI IN ‐This port may be connected to a MIDI Record strip.
MIDI OUT ‐This port connects to the MIDI slave device that the QRS processor is controlling.
9VDC Power Adapter
Disconnect and Remove the PMII Processor
Disconnect the cables and remove PMII processor from the piano.

Mount and Connect the PNO3WB Processor
The piano should sll be disconnected from AC power.
Insert straps in the bracket.
Aach the magnec bracket to the piano and the processor to the magnet.
Insert straps through slots
QRS System
DRIVER PORT B and PWM Control
Connect the driver board cable to the appropriate socket on the PNO3WB processor.
There are three possible driver board cables:
1 Driver Port B, black socket: 8‐wire harness to Smart Driver Boards
2 Driver Port B, white socket: 20‐pin ribbon to Rev 4 boards OR old style Magnec adapter.

3 PWM Control, 20‐Pin ribbon to Rev 7 boards OR 37‐Pin new style Magnec adapter.
Connect the Power supply and PLx cables.
Verify that the QRS power supply switch is OFF before connecng this cable.

Connect the cables to the PNO3WB processor
ETHERNET ‐Do NOT connect an Ethernet cable. The PNO3WB has built‐in WiFi.
USB HOST‐TheUSBHOSTportsarethesameso,thecablescanbere‐insertedineithersocket.

MIDI IN‐This port may be connected to a MIDI Record strip.
AUDIO 1‐4 [Audio #3 goes the piano speaker]
The silver “contact” side of the ribbon cable faces down, away from the label.
DO NOT insert the SD card.
The QRS Music Library is now stored INSIDE the PNO3WB processor.
Aach the two antennas to the end of the PNO3WB processor.
The center RFC connector is NOT used.

MIDI Controller
PianoDisc The PianoDisc controller is not needed to play the piano from PNO3WB processor.
The PianoDisc controller IS needed to calibrate the keys and pedal solenoid.
IF the PianoDisc controller is removed, do not discard, it can be reconnected to calibrate the system.
Locate the PianoDisc’s CPU Interface on the back side of the key solenoid rail.
Connect the MIDI cable from the MIDI OUT of the PNO3WB processor to the MIDI IN of the PianoDisc.
Disklavier Connect the MIDI cable from the MIDI OUT of the PNO3WB processor to the MIDI IN of the Disklavier.
On the back of the Disklavier controller set the HOST SELECT switch to “MIDI”.
Some units may not have the HOST SELECT switch and you may have to make a change in the controller’s setup menu.
Record system, connects to the MIDI IN, if installed.
Power Adapter The PNO3WB processor will begin to power ON as soon as it is connected to power.
Turn on the PianoDisc or Disklavier.
Connect the power adapter into the 9VDC jack on the end of the PNO3WB processor.
Connect the power adapter to an AC outlet.

MIDI Out Key Adjust
Min. MIDI Out [Adjusts the MIDI Out volume level ]
Used to make minor “MIDI Volume” adjustments so the keys play, and play evenly.
This adjustment does NOT replace the actual key “calibraon” performed using the PianoDisc or Disklavier control box.
Go to: System Setup / Performance Setup / Roung & Delay Sengs / MIDI Out Key Adjust.
MIDI Key Adjust Global ‐Red when ON ‐Any changes made will affect ALL keys. Do NOT use!
Tap Start. The selected Note should begin to play.
Tap the “‐‐>“ buon in the Note row to play chromacally up the keyboard.
See how the notes play up the keyboard.
Tap Stop
You CAN increase the MIDI level of each note but, you CAN’T decrease the level to make it any soer.
You would need to calibrate the keys using the PianoDisc or Disklavier controller.
To increase the MIDI level going out to the player:
Tap‐Use the “<‐” or “‐>“ buons to go to the note that you want to adjust.
Min. MIDI Out‐Use the “+” buon to increase the level. The minimum seng is 1.
The“‐‐>“buonattheendoftherow,setsthecurrentvaluetoallkeysupscale,fromtheselectednote. Changes are
automacally saved.
Tap Stop when finished.
MIDI Out Pedal Adjust
Go to: System Setup / Performance Setup / Roung & Delay Sengs / MIDI Out Pedal Adjust.
Pedal Test On Time: 500 just sets the repeat rate of the ON/OFF pedal during the test. Set to 500.
Tap Start
Pedal Max Out‐Use the “<‐” or “‐>“ buons to see if changes can be made to the to damper li.
Tap Stop
Audio Accompaniment‐Speaker Test
Go to: Play Piano / Genre / Country & Western Accompaniment and Tap the song name, Deed I Do. The audio should be heard.
MIDI OUT Delay
Use this adjustment to synchronize the piano with the audio.
Go to: System Setup / Performance Setup / Roung & Delay Sengs / MIDI Opons / 5 Pin Out.

Tap the “‐” and “+” buons to change the delay of the piano.

Power ON and Test the PNO3WB
Reconnect the piano to an AC outlet and turn ON the power supply switch.
The PLX lights begin to scan as the operang system is loaded.
Voiceprompts,announcements,shouldbeheardinabout90seconds.
These PNO3WB buon lights should illuminate. [1=OFF, 2=ON solid, 3=On blinking]
PlxMV light sequence:
Power/Standby/Play—Green=Ready, Yellow = Standby, Green‐flashing = Song is Playing.
System—Green=All Good, Yellow‐flashing=Hand‐held remote control command received.
[Wired Network [LAN] Green=Standalone & Yellow=Networked] Red=Not Networked, Red‐flashing=resolving IP address.
I/O Mode—Indicates the Source
MIDI OUT—Sending MIDI data.
Prompts/Audio—Yellow‐flashing=voice announcements and song audio being sent to audio outputs.
Within ninety (90) seconds
#1 “Power” light turns green
#2 “System” = green
#3 “Network” = green [The Network light indicates the status of the Wired Network(LAN) PNO3WB’s Ethernet Port connecon.]
Within two (2) minutes...
Voice‐Prompts should be heard from the speaker and the “Prompts” light flashes yellow.
Accessing and Navigang the PNO3WB Control Menu [Connect to the QRS Wi‐Fi]
PNO3WB processors have built‐in Wi‐Fi and are shipped to operate as soon as the system powers on.

Enter the password = qrsmusic.
Open your web browser; Apple Safari, Android Browser or Google Chrome.

Set each note to play as SOFTLEY as possible!

Beware: Absolute Min Force and Master Volume Curve sengs can OVERRIDE the Key Adjust sengs.
Note‐Use the “<‐” or “‐>“ buons to go to note 5, or 1 on an 88 note systems.
Force Preset‐Set to Regular Acon and tap “‐‐>“ at the right.
Retro Time (ms)‐Set to 120 and tap “‐‐>“ at right.
Retro Divisor‐Set to 1/3 of Key Force and tap “‐‐>“ at the right.
Press Start. Note 5, or 1 should begin to play.
1] Min. Aack‐Tap “‐” or “+” to adjust the note to play as soly as possible.
2] Note‐Tap “‐>“ to move to the next note.
Repeat steps 1 & 2 for each note.
Press Stop when all notes have been adjusted.
Global ‐Red when ON ‐Any changes made will affect ALL keys. Do NOT use!
Use the “<‐‐” or “‐‐>“ buons, in the Note row, to play chromacally up or down keyboard. Use to check the Min. Aack sengs.
The four “‐‐>“ buons, at the end of the boom four rows, set the current value to all keys upscale, from the selected note.

Pedal Adjust‐Mechanical.
Sustain Pedal Solenoid Adjustments for Old Style Trapwork. Adjust, if necessary.

Loosen lock‐nut & turn the bolt to move the bolt‐head away
from the straight lever. We don’t want any pressure on the
straight lever while making the next few adjustments

Check for this small wood block, with felt pad, as shown.
This block stops the lever and prevents the thread‐rod from

If necessary, loosen the bolt and center the top of the “Z”
bracket secon of the “U‐shaped” lever over the sustain
pedal rod. Verify that the assembled “U‐shaped” lever clears
5 Adjust the sustain pedal rod’s bolt so that the “U‐shaped”
lever is parallel to the keybed.

Turn the carriage bolt‐head so that it touches the straight
lever and pushes up on the damper tray. Adjust for 1/8” to
1/4” lost moon between the damper tray and the damper

Loosen the lock‐nut on the sustain pedal solenoid and adjust
the rubber‐pped bolt so that when the piston is pressed
down, as far as it can go, the dampers lijust enough to clear
all of the strings. Ideally, we want the piston to travel the
shortest distance possible and sll lithe dampers. The farther
the piston travels, the more noise it will make when released.
Tighten the lock‐nut.

Pedal Adjust QRS SYSTEM [Notnecessaryifthereisn’tapedalsolenoidaachedand/orMagicPedalisON]
Go to: System Setup / Performance Setup / Pedal Adjust.
Pedal Test On Time:500 =500 [Adjusts the pedal solenoid ON/OFF interval during the Pedal Adjust procedure.
Make the changes below before beginning the adjustment.
Tap “‐” or input “0” in the fields and select Enter/Return on your keyboard.
Pedal Pre‐Play Time = 0
Pedal Aack = 2000
Pedal Hold = 0
Pedal Retro = 0
Get in a posion where you can see the piano dampers and then, Tap the Start buon.
Pedal Aack: Tap “+” unl the dampers jump up offof the strings. Tap “+” two more mes.
Pedal Hold: Tap “+” unl the dampers stay up for a second before falling. Tap “+” two more mes.
Pedal Retro: Tap “+” or “‐” so that the dampers hold for about one second before falling.
Tap the Stop buon when finished.
Pedal Retro pulses the pedal solenoid as it falls. This adjustment is used to eliminate some of the mechanical noise.

QRS PNOscan Record Setup, If Installed
If you did NOT connected a ribbon cable to the PNOscan 10 port on the PNO3 processor then skip this page.
PNOscan Key Adjust
Go to: System Setup / Record Setup / PNOscan Adjust / PNOscan Keys Basic / Press the “Reset Calibraon” buon.
The “PNOscan Key Adjustment” dialog box appears.
Press and hold the first bass key.
When you hear the sound of the note from the speaker, release the key.
ThefihlightonthePLxMVboxshouldblink.
Repeat for all 88 keys and Press “OK” when finished.
PNOscan Pedal Adjust
Go to: System Setup / Record Setup / PNOscan Adjust / PNOscan Pedals
ThepedalsensorswillnotworkifthePedalTriggernumberisnotbetweentheRestandDownnumbers.
Sustain Pedal
Tap the “Rest” buon and wait for the “Rest” number to change value.
Depress the Sustain Pedal to the floor.
Tap the “Down” buon and wait for the “Down” number to change value.
Release the Sustain Pedal.
Slowly depress the Sustain Pedal while tapping a piano key.
When the tone rings, indicang that the dampers have lied offof the strings.
Tap the “Trigger” buon and wait for the Trigger number to change value.
Release the Sustain pedal
SoPedal [Onlyfunconalwhenusingcomputersowaretorecordsongs.]
Tap the “Rest” buon and wait for the “Rest” number to change value.
Depress the SoPedal to the floor.
Tap the “Down” buon and wait for the “Down” number to change value.
Tap the “Trigger” buon and wait for the “Trigger” number to change value.
Release the pedal.
SostenutoPedal‐Noadjustmentnecessary.
This procedure calibrates the PNOscan’s key sensors and saves the data to the PNO3processor.
Audio Accompaniment‐Speaker Test

Tap the song name, Deed I Do. The audio should start right away.

Master Volume Curves
Two important sengs:
1] The PIANO CURVE seng on the SoPlayback pages should ALWAYS be set to 0.
If it’s greater than zero then, it’s overridden the key adjust sengs and will not play as soly as possible.
2] Each of the Master Volume Curves has three pages; SoPlayback, Full Expression and Loud Playback. SoPlayback
needs to be lower than Full Expression which needs to be lower than Loud Playback. If not…say the Full Expression seng is higher
than Loud Playback…you won’t have ANY volume control as you play the piano.

Seng the Length to 12 will mute the prompts from 8PM to 8AM

Network Setup
Current PNO3WB processors have built‐in Wi‐Fi and are shipped to operate in Standalone mode.
The default SSID is QRSPNO3_##### where the # numbers are the last five digits of the PNO3WB serial number.
Wireless Standalone Mode
Use your device [iPhone, iPad, iPod, Android phone/tablet or laptop] to wirelessly connecon to QRSPNO_#####
Password = qrsmusic
Open your web browser [Apple Safari / Android Browser / Google Chrome] and enter 10.3.2.1in the address bar.
YoucanALWAYSconnecttoPNO3WBinStandAloneMode...evenwhenrunninginNetworkMode.
Network Mode Advantages
Your device stays connected to your home network to surf the internet OR to play the piano.
The PNO3WB system receives system and music updates over the Internet.
Music can be ordered directly from the PNO3 menu.
Purchased music is released over the Internet...no unlock keys to enter.
Network Modes [Wired Network (LAN) OR Wireless Network]
Always keep the Wireless Standalone Wi‐Fi acve, as a backup, but only use ONE of the two Network modes below.
Wired Network (LAN) A hard‐wire connecon from the PNO3WB’s Ethernet port to the home router or one of it’s
extenders.
The home router will assign an IP address to the PNO3WB processor as soon as a viable connecon is made.
Wireless Network Link the PNO3WB to the home Wi‐Fi as follows...
System Setup / Network Sengs / Wireless Network‐Verify that the Network Mode is DHCP Client.
Tap the Connect to Client Wi‐Fi buon.
Select your home network from the list
Enter the password to your home network
Tap Connect
IF the PNO3WB links to your home network you should:
Hear the IP address announced over the piano speakers…notate the inet addr: number displayed on your screen.
Also…in the UPPER LEFT CORNER of the Wireless Network page you should see:
Currently connected to…your home network name
On Channel X [if on 11, connue but, make the Channel 11 change.]

Customer Trial Acvaon
Don’t acvate the Customer Trial before linking the system to the home network. Seepage14.
When Networked, the Registraon informaon will automacally emailed to the QRS office for documentaon.
If the system is not on the Network, the trial music will only play for ninety seconds.

Tap on the green “Customer Trial Acvaon” buon, and then OK.
Fill out the form and tap the “Save and Register” buon.

The inial one‐year music trial period determines the QRS Player Parts Warranty period.
Extended Parts Warranty
QRS Player Parts are covered as long as the QRS PNO3 system is under a QRS Music Subscripon Plan
To determine the warranty period for your system:
Go to: System Setup / Service / View Sengs and scroll down the page to find the Acve DRM secon.
Look for a DRM ID number with these descripons:
Release songs for 1 year, Expires… [This is the inial music trial period.]
Release Songs for 2 years, Expires…[Extended Parts Warranty period.]
Release Songs for 4 years, Expires…[Extended Parts Warranty period.]
When upgrading a legacy QRS system to a PNO3WB...
ANY defecve QRS PLAYER part is covered for the warranty period, as described above.
Any DRM ID labeled Complimentary, Order, Playlist or Expires=Never do NOT apply toward the parts warranty.
Labor warranty is provided by selling dealer or installer.
