service technician to inspect the unit and to
replace any part of the control system and any
gascontrol whichhas beenunder water.

Installation and repair should be PERFORMED
byaqualified service person.The appliance and
venting system should be INSPECTED before
initialuse and atleast annually bya professional
service person. More frequent cleaning may be
required due to excessive lint from carpeting,
beddingmaterial, etc. It is IMPERATIVE that the
unit’s control compartment, burners, and
circulating air passageways BE KEPT CLEAN
toprovideforadequatecombustionandventilation
air.
Always KEEP the appliance clear and free from
combustible materials, gasoline, and other

permanently located, manufactured (mobile) home,
wherenotprohibitedby local codes.
2. This appliance is only for use with the type of gas
indicated on the rating plate. This appliance is not
convertibleforusewithothergases,unlessacertified
kit is used.

NEVER OBSTRUCT the flow of combustion and
ventilation air. Keep the front of the appliance
CLEARofallobstacles and materialsfor servicing
andproperoperations.
Dueto the hightemperature, the applianceshould
be LOCATED out of traffic areas and away from
furniture and draperies. Clothing or flammable
material SHOULD NOT BE PLACED on or near
theappliance.
Children and adults should be ALERTED to the
hazards of high surface temperature and should
STAY AWAY to avoid burns or clothing ignition.
Young children should be CAREFULLY
SUPERVISEDwhentheyare in thesameroom as
theappliance.
These units MUST use one of the vent systems
describedin the Installing the Insert section of the
Installers Guide. NO OTHER vent systems or
components MAY BE USED.
This gas fireplace and vent assembly MUST be
vented directly to the outside and MUST NEVER
beattached toa chimneyserving a separate solid
fuel burning appliance. Eachgas appliance MUST
USE a separate vent system. Common vent
systemsarePROHIBITED.
INSPECT theexternal vent cap on a regular basis
to make sure that no debris is interfering with the
airflow.
The glass door assembly MUST be in place and
sealed, and the trim door assembly MUST be in
placeonthefireplacebeforetheunit can be placed
intosafe operation.
DO NOT OPERATE this appliance with the glass
door removed, cracked, or broken. Replacement
of the glass door should be performed by a
licensedorqualifiedserviceperson. DONOTstrike
or slam the glass door.
The glass door assembly SHALL ONLY be
replaced as a complete unit, as supplied by the
gas fireplace manufacturer. NO SUBSTITUTE
material may be used.
DO NOT USE abrasivecleanersonthe glass door
assembly. DO NOT ATTEMPT to clean the glass
door when it is hot.
Turn off the gas before servicing this appliance. It
isrecommendedthataqualified service technician
performan appliance checkup at the beginning of
eachheating season.
Any safety screen or guard removed for servicing
mustbe replacedbefore operating this appliance.
DO NOT place furniture or any other combustible
household objects within 36 inches of the fireplace front.

UnitedStates)or theCAN/CGA-B149 InstallationCodes (in
Canada). The appliance must be electrically grounded in
accordancewithlocalcodesor, in the absence of local codes
with the National Electric Code ANSI/NFPA No. 70 (in the
UnitedStates), or tothe CSAC22.1CanadianElectric Code
(inCanada).

HighAltitude Installations
U.L.Listed gas appliancesare tested andapproved without
requiring changes for elevations from 0 to 2,000 feet in the
U. S.A. and in Canada.
When installing this appliance at an elevation above 2,000
feet, it may be necessary to decrease the input rating by
changing the existing burner orifice to a smaller size. Input
rate should be reduced by 4% for each 1000 feet above a
2000 foot elevation in the U.S.A. or 10% for elevations
between 2000 and 4500 in Canada. If the heating value of
the gas has been reduced, these rules do not apply. To
identifytheproperorificesize,check with the local gasutility.
If installing this appliance at an elevation above 4,500 feet
(in Canada), check with local authorities.

Appliances
Quadra-Fire directvent gas appliancesare designedto op-
erate with all combustion air siphoned from outside of the
building and all exhaust gases expelled to the outside. The
informationcontained in this Installers Guide, unless noted
otherwise, applies to all models and gas control systems.
Gasappliancediagrams,includingthedimensions,areshown
in this section.
Pre-installation Preparation
Thisgasinsertanditscomponentsaretestedandsafewhen
installedin accordance with this Installers Guide. Report to
yourdealer any partsdamaged in shipment,particularly the
condition of the glass. Do not install any unit with
damaged, incomplete, or substitute parts.
Thevent systemcomponentsandtrimsurroundsareshipped
inseparate packages.Thegaslogsare packagedseparately
and must be field installed. Read all of the instructions
beforestartingthe installation. Follow these instructions
carefully during the installation to ensure maximum
safety and benefit. Failure to follow these instructions
will void the owner’s warranty and may present a fire
hazard.
The Hearth & HomeTechnologies Warranty will be voided
by, and Hearth & Home Technologies disclaims any
responsibilityfor,the following actions:
• Installation of any damaged appliance or vent system
component.
• Modification of the appliance or direct vent system.
• Installation other than as instructed by Hearth & Home

VENTING AND INSTALLATION
1. Quadra-Fire gas inserts are designed for recessed in-
stallations into solid fuel Masonry or Factory Built Non
Combustible fireplaces that have been installed in ac-
cordance with the National, Provincial, State and local
buildingcodes.
2. Minimum fireplace opening requirements are shown in
Figure2 of this installation manual.The firebrick (refrac-
tory) can be removed from a factory built fireplace in or-
derto gain minimum gas insert opening requirements.
3. This insert requires no hearth extensions. Combustible
materialon the floormay be installedup to theinsert. Do
notobstruct thelower grill of the insert. The original fire-
place may never be returned to solid fuel in this condi-
tion.
4. Themetal floor of the solid fuel firebox maybe removed
to facilitate the installation of the insert. CLEARANCE
TO COMBUSTIBLE MATERIAL UNDER THE IN-
SERT IS 1/4”. YOU MUST USE THE LEVELING
LEGSTORAISETHEINSERTAMINIMUMOF1/4”
IF THE INSERT IS TO SIT ON COMBUSTIBLE
MATERIAL.The sidewalls and topstructure ofthe fire-
box may not be altered with the exception of removable
bafflesanddampers.Theoriginalfireplacemaynever be
returned to solid fuel in this condition.
5. Combustible facing material may be installed over the
originalcombustible ornon-combustible facingmaterial
on the solid fuel fireplace. The original specified clear-
ances of a factory-built fireplace must be maintained,
with the exception of the hearth. Clearances on a ma-
sonryfireplacemustbemaintainedat12”fromthe open-
ing for combustible projections over 1 1/2”. Clearances
for combustible projections under 1 1/2” must be main-
tained at 6” from the opening per NFPA 211. Plan the
surround size accordingly. A surround must be used
withtheinsert. UNDERNOCIRCUMSTANCECANCOM-
BUSTIBLEMATERIALBEPLACEDBEHINDTHESUR-
ROUND!
6. Theinsert surround istested and approved with thisgas
insertandmaycoverexisting air circulation vents orgrills
on the solid fuel fireplace it is installed into. Should the
surroundnot cover theentireventilation grill surface,the
grill should be left open.
NOTE: Decorativetrim surrounds have been tested and
approvedto cover existing air circulation vents or grills.
WARNING: Only the surround as supplied,
may be used to cover integral grills on the
solid fuel-burning fireplace. No other
components such as shrouds, sheet metal
plates, etc. may be used to seal off vents.

10.Make sure that all chimney cleanouts fit properly so air
cannot leak into the chimney.
11.Install the insert without the trim surround and make all
gas, venting, and electrical connections.
If the factory built fireplace has no gas access
holes provided, an access hole of 1” diameter
(25mm) or less may be drilled through the
lower sides or bottom of the combustion chamber
in a proper workmanship like manner.
12.Install decorative trim surround. Please refer to instruc-
tions included with the trim surround.
Ensure there are no obstructions to side air
passages of decorative trim once installed
on insert.

Vent System Installation Precautions
Before starting installation of vent kits, the installer should
read these instructions and the Vent Kit Instructions to
ensurethat a propervent installation is completed. Consult
yourlocal Building Codesbefore beginning theInstallation.

ASSEMBLY MUST BE VENTED DIRECTLYTO
THEOUTSIDEANDMUSTNEVER BEATTACHEDTO
A CHIMNEY SERVING A SEPARATE SOLID FUEL
BURNING APPLIANCE. EACH GAS APPLIANCE
MUSTUSEASEPARATEVENTSYSTEM. COMMON
VENT SYSTEMS ARE PROHIBITED.
Vent System Approvals
Table 1 and Figure 3 through 5 shows the vent termination
caps and systems approved for use with these models.
Approved vent system terminations are labeled for
identification. 3-inch diameter listed flexible aluminum or
stainless steel gas vent is used for both the incoming
combustion air and exhaust vent pipes. NO OTHER
VENTINGSYSTEMSOR COMPONENTS MAYBEUSED.
Detailedinstallationinstructionsareincludedwith each vent
termination kit and should be used in conjunction with this
manual.
Horizontal Venting
The vent system on this model CANNOT be terminated
horizontally.
Vertical Venting
TheventpipesMUST beconnected to thepropercollarson
theunit AND theexhaust ventpipe MUST be connected to
the termination cap or the unit will not operate. The
combustion air vent pipe CAN be connected to the
terminationcap orit canterminate insidethe chimney.The
bottomopening of the chimney must be sealedaround the
vent pipes if the combustion air vent is NOT connected to
the termination cap. Use unfaced fiberglass insulation to
seal around the vent pipes. The insulation may give off an
odorduring thefirsthourofoperation.SeeFigures4,5and6.
NOTE: The minimum vertical rise (exhaust vent) is 14 feet
andthemaximum vertical riseis50 feet. Thesedimensions
aremeasured from thestarting collars ofthe unitto the end
ofthelastsection of ventpipe.Seedimension V in Figure3.

Évacuation horizontale
Le système d’évacuation de ce modèle NE PEUT PAS
comporterde terminaison horizontale.
Évacuation verticale
Les conduits DOIVENT être raccordés aux collets corres-
pondantsde l’appareil ET le conduit d’évacuation DOIT être
raccordéaucapuchonpourquel’appareilpuissefonctionner.
Le conduit d’air de combustion PEUT être raccordé au
capuchonouaboutir à l’intérieurdela cheminée. L’ouverture
inférieuredelacheminéedoitêtrejointehermétiquementaux
conduitssi le conduitd’airdecombustion n’est PASraccordé
au capuchon. Utilisez l'isolant de fibre de verre sans
revêtement pour assurer l'étanchéité des conduits
d'évacuation. L'isolant peut dégager une odeur pendant la
premièreheure defonctionnement dufoyer. Voir Figures 4,
5 et 6.

Forzeroclearance, factory builtwoodburningfireplaces, the
useof kit LINK-ZC-ADPand LINK-ZC-ADPB, inplace of the
standardsquareflashing,willallow you to mounttheadaptor
and cap on metal pipe.
Connecting the Vent Pipe
Installthe3-inchflexibleventpipesdownthroughthechimney.
Removethestartingcollarbracketfromthetopoftheunit.See
figure5.Attachandsecurethebottomendsoftheflexpipesto
the starting collar bracket with 3 sheetmetal screws on each
collar.Slidethe gasinsert into place, and position any excess
flex vent pipe back up into the chimney. Re-attach the collar
bracket to the unit with one sheetmetal screw through
the front of the unit.
Attach the pipe-to-cap adaptor to the termination cap and
the top of the flexible vent pipe and set the cap in place at
the top of the chimney. See Figures 4, 5 & 6.
CAUTION:TOAVOID DOWNDRAFTSAND/ORCOLDAIR
PROBLEMS, IT IS RECOMMENDED TO SEAL OFF THE
AREABETWEENTHE TERMINATION CAPAND THE TOP
OF THE SOLID-FUEL CHIMNEY OPENING INTO WHICH
THE VENT CAP HAS BEEN INSTALLED.
WHEN USING THE LINK-DV4-30 VENT SYSTEM, IT IS
REQUIRED TO SEAL AROUND THE FLEXIBLE VENT
PIPES IN THE DAMPER AREA. SEE FIGURE 4. USE
FIBERGLASS INSULATION OR OTHER SUITABLE NON-
COMBUSTIBLEMATERIAL.

excessive de conduit flexible dans la cheminée. Re-fixez le
support de collet sur la façade de l’appareil à l’aide d’une
vis à tôle.
Fixez le raccord conduit/capuchon sur le capuchon et le
haut du conduit flexible, puis mettez le capuchon en place
en haut de la cheminée. Consultez les Figures 4, 5 et 6.
