Setting up the appliance
This guide explains how to set up the physical Quest® KACE® Systems Deployment Appliance
(SDA).
For information about setting up virtual appliances, and for additional documentation, go to http://
documents.quest.com.
Before setting up the appliance, review and follow the safety instructions in the Dell EMC
PowerEdge R440 Getting Started Guide and any other safety instructions shipped with the
appliance.
The Quest KACE appliance is a specially configured platform and does not require you to install or
remove internal components, update firmware, or modify BIOS settings. To set up the appliance,
follow the instructions in this document only.
Before you begin
Before you configure the appliance, there are a number of preliminary actions you need to take.
1. Purchase a physical KACE Systems Deployment Appliance (SDA) from Quest Sales at
https://www.quest.com/company/contact-us.aspx.
2. Install the appliance in its rack, but do not connect a network cable.
3. Obtain a static IP address for the appliance.
Configure the network settings. See Configure network settings.
Configure network settings
Use the Command Line Console to configure network settings and connect the appliance to your
network.
1. Connect a monitor and keyboard directly to the appliance, but do not connect a network
cable to the appliance.
2. Power on the appliance. This first-time startup takes 5 to 10 minutes.
The login screen appears.
3. At the prompts, enter:
Login: konfig
Password: konfig
4. Choose the language to use for the Command Line Console. Use the up- and down-arrow
keys to move between fields.
5. Configure the following network settings. Use the right- and left-arrow keys to select options
in a field; use the up- and down-arrow keys to move between fields.

Option Description
Host Name Enter the hostname of the appliance. The default
is k2000.
Subnet Mask Enter the subnet (network segment) that the
appliance is on. The default is 255.255.255.0.
IP Address Enter the static IP address of the appliance.
Network Speed Select the speed of your network. This speed
should match the setting of your LAN switch.
If you select Auto-negotiate, the system
determines the best value automatically,
provided that the LAN switch supports auto-
negotiation.
Domain Name Enter the domain the appliance is on. For
example, quest.com.
Default Gateway Enter the network gateway for the appliance.
Primary DNS Enter the IP address of the primary DNS server
the appliance uses to resolve host names.
Secondary DNS Optional: Enter the IP address of the secondary
DNS server the appliance uses to resolve
hostnames.
Allow SSH Root Login (Quest Support) Optional: Select this option to enable SSH
(secure) access to the KACE Systems
Deployment Appliance Administrator Console.
Quest KACE recommends that you enable
SSH during the initial setup. When the setup
is complete, you can change the setting in the
Administrator Console as needed.
Proxy Optional: Enter proxy server information.
The appliance supports proxy
servers that use basic, realm-based
authentication requiring usernames and
passwords. If your proxy server uses
a different kind of authentication, add
the appliance’s IP address to the proxy
server’s exception list.
6. Use the down-arrow key to move the cursor to Save, then press Enter or Return.
The appliance restarts.

7. Connect a network cable to the port indicated:
You can also connect to the port immediately to the left of the one indicated and
enable link aggregation from the Network Settings page.
Log in to the Administrator Console. See Log in to the Administrator Console.
Log in to the Administrator Console
After the network settings are configured and the appliance restarts, log in to the KACE Systems
Deployment Appliance Administrator Console from any computer on the LAN (local area network).
Your browser setting determines the language displayed in the Administrator Console
the first time you log in. For information about changing the language settings, see the
appliance Administrator Guide.
1. Open a web browser and enter the Administrator Console URL:
http://hostname. For example, http://KACE_SDA.
2. Provide the following information:
Setting Description
License Key Enter the license key you received in the
Welcome email from Quest. Include the dashes.
If you do not have a license key, contact Quest
Support at https://support.quest.com/contact-
support.
Administrator Password Enter a password for the default admin account,
which is the account you use to log in to the
appliance Administrator Console. The default
admin account is the only account on the
appliance at this time. If you forget the password
for this account, the system might have to be
reset to factory defaults which can result in loss
of data.
If you have multiple KACE SDA or SMA
(Systems Management) appliances,
Quest KACE recommends that you
use the same password for the admin
account on all appliances. This enables
you to link the appliances later. For
more information, see the appliance
Administrator Guide.

Setting Description
Registration Data Enter the name of your company or group and
the email address of the person or group that
you want to receive logs and notifications from
the appliance.
Network Connectivity The physical and virtual KACE SDA appliances
must be connected to the network to validate the
license information.
Time Zone Select the timezone where the appliance is
located.
3. Accept the End User License Agreement (EULA), then log in using the login ID admin and
the password you chose on the initial setup page.
The Administrator Console appears and the appliance is ready for use.
Scheduling training
To help you begin using the appliance, Quest provides a training program called QuickStart. This
program provides remote assistance to begin imaging and provisioning your network-connected
devices.

L'appliance Quest KACE est une plateforme spécialement configurée qui ne demande aucune

Avant de commencer
Avant de configurer l'appliance, vous devez effectuer un certain nombre de tâches.
1. Achetez une appliance physique de déploiement des systèmes KACE (SDA) via les services

réseau.
2. Mettez l'appliance sous tension. Ce premier démarrage nécessite entre 5 et 10minutes.

Option Description

proposé par défaut est k2000.

AdresseIP Entrez l'adresse IP statique de l'appliance.
Vitesse du réseau Sélectionnez la vitesse de votre réseau. Celle-
ci doit correspondre au paramètre de votre
commutateur de réseau local. Si vous choisissez
Négociation automatique, le système détermine
automatiquement la meilleure valeur, à condition
que la négociation automatique soit prise en
charge par le commutateur de réseau local.
Nom du domaine Indiquez le domaine auquel appartient
l'appliance. Par exemple, quest.com.
Passerelle par défaut Indiquez la passerelle réseau de l'appliance.
DNS principal Spécifiez l'adresse IP ou le serveur DNS
principal utilisé par l'appliance pour résoudre les
noms d'hôte.
DNS secondaire Facultatif: entrez l'adresse IP du serveur DNS
secondaire que l'appliance utilise pour résoudre
les noms d'hôte.
Autoriser une connexion racine SSH (Support
Quest)
Facultatif: sélectionnez cette option pour
activer l'accès SSH (sécurisé) à la Console
d'administration de l'appliance de déploiement
des systèmes KACE. Quest KACE vous
recommande d'activer le protocole SSH au cours
de l'installation initiale. Lorsque l'installation est
terminée, vous pouvez modifier les paramètres
dans la Console d'administration si nécessaire.
Proxy Facultatif: saisissez les informations concernant
le serveur proxy.
