Before installing the software please repair disk permissions....
To locate the Disk Utility~go to your Hard Drive~in Applications
scroll down and locate Utility Folder~inside in alphabetical
order find the Disk Utility. It is the Hard Drive with a
stethescope.
Click to open, notice on the left of the screen two or more line
items. The first is the brand and model of your computer’s
hard drive, the second item should be the name of your
computer (Example~my Hard Drive is called Pandora’s Box I
would choose this one). Click to highlight this will take you to
the FIRST AID page.
Notice at the bottom, buttons click REPAIR DISK PERMISSIONS
let this run. It will tell you inside the white box when
Permissions are repaired.
Quit Disk Utility.
Now pop the CD in and click on the disk image to open your
CD. Inside you will find folders that are labeled 10.4 thru 10.8.
You will need to know what OS you are running on your
computer. IF you are unsure what operating system you are
running. Click the Apple icon at the top left corner of menu
bar. A drop down menu will appear, choose ABOUT THIS
MAC~look to see what version you are running.
Example~
my iMac is running
version 10.5.8
Continue......Accessing a WEP encrypted Apple AirPort Base
Station via QuickerTek
In the case of the nNano II you will need to get the full password
the base station creates, which is known as the Network
Equivalent Password. To acquire the Network Equivalent
Password, you will need to access the base station from a client
using the AirPort software via the AirPort Administration utility.
Once you have logged into the AirPort base station go to the
Base Station menu and select Network
Equivalent Password.
You will be presented a dialog box that has the password in
hexadecimal. Record this password as you will need it in the
following step.
Bring up the USB Wireless Utility, and select the encrypted base
station that you are attempting to access, and then select
Connect.
You will be presented with a dialog box. You must select the
appropriate encryption type as noted from the Airport
Administration utility. Select hexadecimal from the Key #1
popup menu. Then type in the 10 or 26 character password you
noted from the Network Equivalent Password from the Airport
Administration utility and then hit Ok.
You will then be attached to the base station.
Accessing a WPA encrypted Apple AirPort Base Station via
QuickerTek nNano II. To access a WPA encrypted Apple AirPort
Base Station via QuickerTek nNano simply
open the USB Wireless Utility and select the base station you
wish to attach to and select Connect. In the dialog box that
appears, select WPA-PSK and then enter the appropriate
password in the WPA Pre-Shared Key field and click Ok.
Instructions
Since my iMac’s OS is 10.5.8 Leopard I would open the folder
10.5 and click on the install package and follow the screens as
directed. It will ask you to restart your computer. This is part
of installing the software.
1. After computer is back up, make sure that you turn o"the
internal AirPort card. To do so, in the top right dock locate
the AirPort icon. It looks like a piece of pie with lines through
it. Just click and a menu will appear choose Turn AirPort O".
2.Now you will be plugging in the nNano II into the USB port on
your computer. You can use the male to female USB cable
that bends or you can plug directly into the USB port.
3.A dialog box will appear stating that a New Network Interface
has been detected. click Network Preferences but let’s not do
anything here yet.
4.The Wireless Utility will appear~every time the nNano II is
plugged in. Site Survey is the default tab which show all of
the networks that the unit has detected. The Site Survey tab is
very helpful~it shows the networks, signal strength NEVER
CONNECT TO A NETWORK UNDER 50% and if the network is
encrypted or is an open network.
5.We are going to make a PROFILE of our network so, highlight
the network that you plan on using, whether it is your own or
an open network. Click the ADD PROFILE button at the
bottom. We are now in the create screen and here you can
name your profile what ever you want it is for your use only. I
recommend that if you plan on using your computer at
di"erent places to name your profiles di"erently and not
leaving them Prof 1, 2, 3 etc. (Example~Home, Co"ee Shop,
Motel 8).
6.After naming your Profile if your network is not encrypted
This next section is for secure networks for all operating systems.
If your wireless network is secure please see your manual for
configuration instructions. Most wireless networks use either WEP
or WPA.
WEP-WIRED EQUIVALENT PRIVACY: Security protocol for wireless
networks that uses an encryption method to transmit data. NOTE:
For wireless devices to communicate all of them must use the
same WEP settings.
WPA-WiFi PROTECTED ACCESS: Wireless security with greater
protection than WEP. NOTE: All computers, access points, and
wireless adapters must use the same type of security either WEP
or WPA.
Accessing a WEP encrypted Apple AirPort Base Station via
QuickerTek
Background information
Apple AirPort and AirPort extreme base stations support 40-bit
or 128-bit encryption. The only exception to this is the graphite
base station, which only supports 40-bit encryption. The
encryption uses either ASCII (a-z 0-9) or hexadecimal (0-9 a-f).
40-bit encryption
uses 5 ASCII or 10 hexadecimal characters. 128-bit uses 13 ASCII
or 26 hexadecimal characters.
Apple base stations and clients using AirPort software are user
friendly (what else would you expect) when it comes to
encryption passwords. You can enter less than the Prerequisite
number of characters for 40-bit or 128-bit encryption and the
base station will create the rest of the necessary characters for
the desired encryption, transparently to the
user. This is great except when the client is not using AirPort
software, like the QuickerTek nNano II
Instructions Instructions
7. If your network is ENCRYPTED~PASSWORD PROTECTED then
you will name your Profile then click on the AUTHENTICATION
& SECURITY BUTTON in this screen you will see only one area
that you can type in your password. If the encryption is WPA
you would type the password in the PRE-SHARED KEY slot.
For WEP you would type the password in the KEY #1 slot.
8.Now click the OK button, it will take you to the PROFILE TAB
and you will see the Profile that you just made. Highlight and
click the ACTIVATE button the unit will take the password that
you placed in your profile and goes out to see if it is
accepted. If so, it will come back with a GREEN BOX with a
YELLOW CHECK. If it comes back with a RED BOX with a
YELLOW CHECK there is a problem. Highlight the Profile and
click the EDIT button and retype the password click the OK
button and highlight the Profile and click the ACTIVATE if it
comes back GREEN you are good to go!
9.Now, let’s go to the SYSTEMS PREFERENCES it should be open
to NETWORK. In Network~ using 10.4 TIGER will be the most
di"erent then 10.5 LEOPARD ,10.6 SNOW LEOPARD and 10.7
LION.
10. In 10.4 TIGER~the first drop down menu is LOCATION~this
should be set as AUTOMATIC. The next drop down menu is
SHOW~find the ETHERNET ADAPTOR (en what ever number).
When you choose this it will take you to the TCP/IP tab.
CONFIGURE IPv4~should be at USING DHCP. Click on the
APPLY NOW button at the bottom. Give the unit a few
seconds to pass security and come back with a valid IP
Address, Subnet Mask and Router number. That is it. You
should be able to connect to the internet.
11.In 10.5 LEOPARD, SNOW LEOPARD & LION~NETWORK will
13. 10.6 SNOW LEOPARD~ the interface~unit will be called
WLAN 802.11n and 10.7 LION~the interface~will be called
RTL81925 WLAN ADAPTER
14. Highlight and click the APPLY button at the bottom. It will
take a few seconds to com back with a valid IP ADDRESS,
SUBNET MASK and ROUTER number. The dot beside the
interface will turn from RED or YELLOW to GREEN and roll up
to the top. And if you look to the right of the screen under
STATUS it will say connected with a IP ADDRESS..
15.IF IN STATUS IT SAYS~WALAN 802.11N MAY NOT BE ABLE TO
CONNECT TO THE INTERNET AND HAS A SELF-ASSIGNED IP
ADDRESS...
16.There is only two reasons for this to happen~IF THE SIGNAL
STRENGTH IS BELOW 50% OR SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH
THE PASSWORD YOU GAVE THE PROFILE YOU MADE.
17.IF by some chance while in NETWORK and you don’t see the
unit listed to the left of the screen, click the + button at the
bottom left and a dialog box will appear. Drop the
INTERFACE menu down and find the ETHERNET ADAPTER or
WALAN (EN what ever number) choose and click the CREATE
button and it will appear to the left of the screen. Highlight
and click the APPLY button at the bottom.
THE OTHER TABS IN THE WIRELESS UTILITY
LINK STATUS TAB~shows status of your network. If connected,
Channel, Link Speed, Link Quality and Signal Strength of the
antenna.
ABOUT TAB~Shows what version of software you have. When
checking make sure that you look at the NIC Driver to see what
version you are running.
