Universal AC/DC Power Adapter
Your RadioShack Universal AC/DC Power Adapter can be used to
power electrical devices which require DC output from 3V to 12V in
countries all over the world, with AC power input ranging from 90V to
240V. The adapter features overload and short circuit protection to
protect it from damage.
You connect a device to the adapter’s multivoltage (3/4.5/6/7.5/9V/
12V DC) output jack using an Adaptaplugadapter of the appropri-
ate size, or to the adapter’s 12V DC cigarette-lighter socket. The
purchase of this adapter entitles you to one free Adaptaplug of your
choice from your local RadioShack store.
Caution: Do not connect devices to both outputs at the same time.
The supplied travel kit includes plug adapters that allow you to use
the Universal AC/DC Power Adapter in continental Europe, Austra-
lia, and the United Kingdom, plus a handy carrying pouch. Plug
adapters for other countries are available at your local RadioShack
store.
OPERATION
Caution: Do not use the adapter to power a device that exceeds the
25W maximum power rating.
1. If necessary, disconnect the adapter from AC power.
2. Use a flat-bladed screwdriver to turn the VOLT 3/4.5/6/7.5/9/12
switch to the desired output voltage.
Caution: Do not change the VOLT 3/4.5/6/7.5/9/12 setting
while the adapter is connected to AC power.
3. For devices which require 3, 4.5, 6, 7.5, 9, or 12V DC power,
connect an appropriate Adaptaplug to the multivoltage output
jack. If the tip on the device’s power jack is positive, align the
positive (+) marking on the Adaptaplug with TIP on the output
jack. If the tip on the device’s power jack is negative, align the
negative (–) marking on the Adaptaplug with TIP. Then insert
the Adaptaplug into the device’s power jack.
For devices with a cigarette-lighter plug which require 12V DC
power, insert the device’s cigarette-lighter plug into the
adapter’s cigarette-lighter socket.
Caution: Do not use the multivoltage output jack and the ciga-
rette-lighter socket at the same time.
Note: If VOLT 3/4.5/6/7.5/9/12 is set to any voltage other than
12, there is no output from the cigarette-lighter socket.
4. Connect a plug adapter that fits the AC outlets in the country
where you are using the device to the adapter’s foldable AC
plug. Then insert the plug adapter into an AC outlet. The
adapter’s indicator lights.
Notes:
• You can use the foldable plug without a plug adapter in the
United States.
• If the green indicator flashes or turns off when the product is in
use, it indicates that the output current is beyond the specifica-
tion and the overload/short circuit protection has been acti-
vated. Disconnect the adapter from AC power, then unplug the
adapter from the device. Reconnect the adapter first to the
device, then to AC power. If the indicator still flashes or does not
light, take the adapter to your local RadioShack store for assis-
tance.
CARE AND MAINTENANCE
To enjoy your adapter for a long time:
• Keep the adapter dry. If it gets wet, wipe it dry immediately.
• Use and store the adapter only in normal temperature environ-
ments.
• Handle the adapter gently and carefully. Do not drop it.
• Keep the adapter away from dust and dirt.
• Wipe the adapter with a damp cloth occasionally to keep it look-
ing new.
Modifying or tampering with the adapter’s internal components can
cause a malfunction and might invalidate its warranty. If your adapt-
er is not performing as it should, take it to your local RadioShack
store for assistance.
