heradarscannertransmitselectromagneticenergyatmicrowavefrequencies
whichcanbeharmful,particularlytotheeyes.DoNOlookatthescannerfrom
closerange.Ensurepersonnelareclearofthescannerwhenitispoweredon.
Forsafetyreasons,theradarmustbeinstalledaboveheadheight,outofrange
ofpersonnel.
Caution:Serviceandmaintenance

Caution:oppler“wagon-wheeling”effect
•herearelimitstothemaximumrelativespeedthattheradarscannercan
measurewhenprocessingDopplertargets.Whenthetargetismovingat
highspeedstheselimitscanresultinastroboscopicvisualeffectknownas
“wagon-wheeling”or“aliasing”.
•“Wagon-wheeling”referstoanopticalillusionsimilartothatseeninsome
movies,wherewagonwheelsappeartooccasionallyrotatebackwards.When
usingDopplerradartheeffectoccurswhenthetargetismovingfastandthe
frequencyofthetransmitpulses,whenthetargetisilluminatedbytheradar,
isinsufficienttodistinguishwhetherthetargetismovingtowardsoraway
fromthevessel.
•heresultofthisvisualeffectisthatthedirectionoftargetreturnsfromhigh
speedvesselsmaybedisplayedincorrectly.Consequently,thedisplayed
targetcolorsmaybeinverted,withtargetscoloredredwhentheyshouldbe
green,andviceversa:
–Whenthetarget'sspeedismorethan60knotsSpeedOverGround(SOG),
ortherelativespeedbetweenyourvesselandthetargetisgreaterthan120
knots,thetargetcolorsmaybeinvertedasfollows:
♦Approachingobjectsarehighlightedingreen.
♦Recedingobjectsarehighlightedinred.

(EMC)regulations,tominimizeelectromagneticinterferencebetweenequipmentandminimizethe
effectsuchinterferencecouldhaveontheperformanceofyoursystem
CorrectinstallationisrequiredtoensurethatEMCperformanceisnotcompromised.
Note:InareasofextremeEMCinterference,someslightinterferencemaybenoticedonthe
product.Wherethisoccurstheproductandthesourceoftheinterferenceshouldbeseparated
byagreaterdistance.
ForoptimumEMCperformancewerecommendthatwhereverpossible:
•Raymarineequipmentandcablesconnectedtoitare:
–Atleast1m(3.3ft)fromanyequipmenttransmittingorcablescarryingradiosignalse.g.VHF
radios,cablesandantennas.InthecaseofSSBradios,thedistanceshouldbeincreasedto2
m(6.6ft).
–Morethan2m(6.6ft)fromthepathofaradarbeam.Aradarbeamcannormallybeassumedto
spread25degreesaboveandbelowtheradiatingelement.

Suppressionferrites
•Raymarinecablesmaybepre-fittedorsuppliedwithsuppressionferrites.heseareimportantfor
correctEMCperformance.Ifferritesaresuppliedseparatelytothecables(i.e.notpre-fitted),you
mustfitthesuppliedferrites,usingthesuppliedinstructions.
•Ifaferritehastoberemovedforanypurpose(e.g.installationormaintenance),itmustbereplaced
intheoriginalpositionbeforetheproductisused.
•Useonlyferritesofthecorrecttype,suppliedbyRaymarineoritsauthorizeddealers.
•Whereaninstallationrequiresmultipleferritestobeaddedtoacable,additionalcableclipsshould
beusedtopreventstressontheconnectorsduetotheextraweightofthecable.

Requirementforferritesonnon-Raymarinecables
IfyourRaymarineequipmentistobeconnectedtootherequipmentusingacablenotsuppliedby
Raymarine,asuppressionferriteMUSalwaysbeattachedtothecableneartheRaymarineunit.
Compasssafedistance
opreventpotentialinterferencewiththevessel'smagneticcompasses,ensureanadequate
distanceismaintainedfromtheproduct.
Whenchoosingasuitablelocationfortheproductyoushouldaimtomaintainthemaximumpossible
distancefromanycompasses.ypicallythisdistanceshouldbeatleast1m(3.3ft)inalldirections.
Howeverforsomesmallervesselsitmaynotbepossibletolocatetheproductthisfarawayfroma
compass.Inthissituation,whenchoosingtheinstallationlocationforyourproduct,ensurethatthe
compassisnotaffectedbytheproductwhenitisinapoweredstate.
